The ever-changing scenery around them left them stunned.
Qi Guze was startled: "Could it be that we can't get out?" He turned around and found that Xu Yuehuai also looked confused.
The two suddenly realized that the white-haired youth had kept them from leaving these past few days so that they could recover from their injuries and face this maze.
Qi Guze gripped the medicine packet tightly in his hand; it was the white-haired youth's last gift to them. He took a deep breath and said firmly, "We cannot let him down; we must find a way to get out."
Xu Yuehua nodded, understanding that their current predicament required them to unite as one. The two began to carefully observe their surroundings, trying to find a flaw in the maze.
After much effort, they finally discovered a pattern: the formation would only change when they simultaneously rotated in a specific direction.
Xu Yuehuai excitedly said to Qi Guze, "We have hope!"
Following the pattern, they turned in different directions and finally escaped the maze. It was already getting dark, but their hearts were filled with unprecedented excitement and satisfaction.
Xu Yuehuai said with emotion, "All of this is thanks to that white-haired young man."
Qi Guze nodded in agreement: "We will always remember his kindness."
The two continued on their way, both knowing that the road ahead was long, but as long as they had each other by their side, they could overcome any difficulty.
And that white-haired young man became their eternal benefactor and guide.
Qi Guze and Xu Yuehuai successfully left the valley and returned to the mountain along a small path.
The path winds and twists, with lush trees on both sides. Sunlight filters through the leaves and falls warmly on them.
They bowed three times towards the valley before finally bidding farewell and leaving.
Qi Guze and Xu Yuehuai walked side by side, silently, both knowing that this farewell might be forever. They said nothing, simply walking on in silence, silently feeling each other's presence.
Upon returning to the town, they immediately rented a carriage at the post station and prepared to head to the capital.
They decided to conceal their identities to avoid unnecessary trouble. They covered their faces with straw hats and hurried towards the capital.
The carriage bumped along the road, and Qi Guze and Xu Yuehuai sat in the carriage, silently watching the scenery rushing past the window.
Their hearts were heavy, but even more so with determination and resolve. After several days of travel, they finally arrived at the capital.
The vast city felt strangely familiar to them, but at the same time, it also put them under pressure.
They knew that what followed might be even more difficult.
In the imperial city's post stations, they found a trustworthy one and prepared to send out the letter the white-haired youth had given them.
When the people at the post station saw the envelope, they looked shocked.
He scrutinized Qi Guze and Xu Yuehuai, his eyes filled with doubt and wariness.
"Where did this letter come from?" the people at the post station questioned.
Qi Guze and Xu Yuehuai exchanged a glance, then answered in unison, "We found it in a valley."
The people at the post station were taken aback for a moment, then asked, "Which valley did you find it in?"
“It’s a valley not far from here,” Xu Yuehuai replied. “We don’t know exactly which valley it is.”
The man at the post station frowned; he was clearly not satisfied with the answer.
He examined the envelope carefully, trying to find some clues. But there were no markings on the envelope; its nature was simply unusual.
“Dongsang Kingdom,” the person at the post station repeated, “this letter is from decades ago.”
Qi Guze and Xu Yuehuai were both stunned. They hadn't expected the letter to be from decades ago, and they began to doubt the white-haired young man's identity.
"Are you sure this letter is really from decades ago? Is it really from the Kingdom of Dongsang?" Xu Yuehuai asked.
"Yes." The person at the post station nodded affirmatively. "This style of letter paper did exist in Dongsang Kingdom decades ago. I saw it when I was a child and still have a copy."
As he spoke, he took out the letter he had kept from his childhood, and it turned out to be exactly the same as the one that Qi Guze and the others had.
Qi Guze and Xu Yuehuai couldn't help but gasp; they were still somewhat worried that this letter might bring unnecessary trouble.
“I hope you will keep this a secret,” Qi Guze said. “Send this letter out as soon as possible.”
As he spoke, he took out several large silver notes from his pocket and handed them to the people at the post station.
The people at the post station nodded in understanding.
He took the envelope and carefully put it away.
Qi Guze and Xu Yuehua nodded gratefully and then left the post station.
They returned to the inn and began to check their surroundings. They cautiously looked around, making sure there was no one else in sight, before letting out a sigh of relief and speaking in hushed tones.
"Aze, do you think that white-haired youth might be from Dongsang Kingdom?" Xu Yuehuai asked doubtfully, a hint of unease in her eyes.
Qi Guze frowned slightly, a hint of confusion in his eyes. "I also have some doubts, but why would it be in a valley within the territory of the Great Zhou Kingdom? This matter is indeed a bit strange."
The two looked at each other, a sense of doubt rising within them. They had been wandering here for several days, encountering various unknown dangers and mysteries, leaving them feeling weary and lost.
The inn was dimly lit, and the air was filled with a musty smell.
The two sat at a table by the window, the night outside pitch black except for the faint twinkling of distant stars. They remained silent for a moment, pondering various possibilities and countermeasures.
Qi Guze took a deep breath, trying to calm his doubts and unease. "Let's go and rest first, and discuss our next steps tomorrow. Yuehuai, don't worry too much, we'll slowly unravel this mystery."
Xu Yuehua nodded silently, her face slightly pale and her eyes showing a hint of fatigue.
The two had dinner together and then rested.
Qi Guze lay in bed, his gaze fixed on the distant night sky through the window. His mind was in turmoil, a jumble of thoughts preventing him from falling asleep.
Will that letter ever be sent? And how will they deal with the subsequent investigation by the Eastern Kingdom?
These questions lingered in his mind, preventing him from calming down.
Xu Yuehuai was also unable to sleep, her heart filled with doubts and worries. She recalled the white-haired youth she had encountered in the valley; his cold eyes and deep pupils seemed etched in her heart, impossible to forget.
Will they encounter that mysterious person again? What exactly is going on?
