Chapter 1676 Ice Coffin

The two of them chattered incessantly, like weasels in a melon patch, discussing whose discovery was the most explosive and would cause the most stir among the sect disciples tomorrow. "You said they went out so late and came back with an unidentified object on their backs, what exactly is that thing?"

One of them uttered a profound question, while the other shook his head, his eyes clear yet filled with confusion, and said, "Isn't that a corpse?"

Upon hearing this, the two fell silent, a rare occurrence. While the sect had no rule against bringing corpses back, it was still somewhat eerie late at night. They huddled together, looking at each other with a hint of uncertainty in their eyes. "That person...it shouldn't have been killed by Senior Sister, right? Could it be something she killed and brought back as a souvenir?"

"I'm telling you, you're an idiot! What kind of good person would use a corpse as a keepsake! You're obviously someone who doesn't take things seriously!" Another person tapped the man on the head, his eyes filled with disdain. Then, he analyzed the situation with a sense of self-assurance, "I think Senior Sister must have gone on some earth-shattering mission, and this is the mission she returned with."

For a moment, both of them felt that this statement made a lot of sense. As the ancients often said, humans are social animals and will stay with those who are similar to them. Believe it or not, that's exactly how it is.

The next day, rumors suddenly began to circulate within the sect for unknown reasons. It was said that Xu Yuehuai had brought back a dead body from outside the sect, accompanied by a man carrying what appeared to be a corpse. Later, it was confirmed that Xu Yuehuai and another man had hunted down another person outside the sect and brought the body back.

This matter is still developing and has not yet been finalized. It is uncertain how it will spread. The only certainty is that there are three main characters.

Aqing has been unhappy these past few days and hasn't shown her face in front of Xu Yuehuai much. Shi Mu, on the other hand, is quite happy to spend time with Qi Guze. Qi Guze is more patient with him because he borrowed this person's identity before.

The Second Elder has not yet woken up. Yu Ze's body has been temporarily placed on the sect leader's mountain peak. Zi Sangyi has not returned either. Xu Yuehuai has not yet clarified the matter. She is unsure whether the Second Elder wants others to know that the person they brought back from outside was Yu Ze.

The Second Elder woke up two days later. Zi Sangyi and Lao Su stayed by his side every step of the way, worried that his condition might suddenly worsen and he might not receive timely help and treatment, leading to illnesses he would regret for the rest of his life.

When they saw him wake up, they both breathed a sigh of relief. They looked at each other and saw helplessness and joy in each other's eyes.

The Second Elder propped himself up and sat up, looking at the two people in front of him. He then asked, "Are you both alright? Has Xu girl come by?"

The second question was what he cared about most: whether Yu Ze was dead or alive. Xu Yuehua originally wanted to wait until they came out before saying anything, but after waiting all day and seeing that they hadn't come out, she came up herself and explained the basic situation.

Anyway, Yu Ze is dead, completely dead, with absolutely no chance of being saved. When they heard this, they were not surprised, and their mood was surprisingly calm, though their eyes held some complexity.

The Second Elder was very good at observing people's expressions. When he saw that the two people's expressions were not right, he guessed that things were probably different from what he had thought. He lowered his eyes, and his hair turned whiter in an instant, making him look like an old man in his twilight years. "It doesn't matter. Anyway, I already knew the answer. Now I'm just seeing it with my own eyes."

Even so, he was still disappointed, especially the feeling of having hope only to be suddenly dashed.

Zi Sangyi wasn't one to mince words. Seeing that the Second Elder was so straightforward, he said directly, "Although the person is dead, it's good that the body has been found. The body has been kept in an ice coffin on the sect leader's mountain for the past few days. Go and see it when you're feeling better."

When Zisangyi said this, she didn't look at the Second Elder's expression at all, and turned away after she finished speaking.

Upon hearing this, the Second Elder struggled to get out of bed, a determined look in his eyes. "Take me to see him. I want to see him now. I'm fine. I've been sleeping for so long. What could possibly be wrong with me?"

As the Second Elder spoke, he made a movement to get up, his arms already trembling. Old Su felt sorry for him and didn't want him to go, so he didn't go forward to help him. He just let him move and watched. "Just listen to the sect leader. Anyway, the person is dead. It's the same whether we see each other sooner or later. The most important thing now is your health. You must take good care of yourself."

The Second Elder sighed, stopped struggling, and calmly looked at the two people in front of him. "You have been stopping me because my body does not allow me to do things of this intensity, or because you are worried that I will be too sad and aggravate my injuries. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."

"The dead are dead, but the living must live well." The Second Elder's sudden words made Zi Sangyi turn her head to look at him. When she saw his white hair, she realized the seriousness of the situation.

He knew perfectly well that if he stopped the Second Elder from going today and let him rest here for a few days, he would only become depressed in the end, and his physical and mental health would only suffer more.

"I really can't do anything with you!" Zisangyi showed a helpless expression on her face, which meant she had given in.

The Second Elder smiled as Old Su helped him up from the bed, and the group arrived at the sect leader's mountain peak.

Xu Yuehuai was about to go out to cultivate when he saw the people who came and knew what it was about. He stopped in his tracks and led them to the place without saying a word.

The Second Elder's emotions had never been at peace throughout the journey; the closer he got, the stronger his feelings became.

When he finally saw Yu Ze lying on the ice coffin with his own eyes, he trembled uncontrollably, tears streaming down his face. He didn't care that so many people were there, and cried out, "Why? Haven't I been good to you? Don't you like it? If you don't like it, why don't you tell me? I'll change! Why are you punishing me like this, punishing yourself?"

The Second Elder gently placed a hand on Yu Ze's face, his eyes filled with endless sorrow, "You were so foolish, so foolish! Why did you do this, why!"
