Chapter Nineteen: The Wolf's Affairs

After wandering around inside, Liu Cuiming and Zhou Qionghua started arguing again over a piece of cloth.

The two were making a huge fuss.

Xu Yuehuai left the referee's office, but little did she know that the two, who seemed to have given up, actually hated each other to the core.

Xu Yuehuai arranged for Liu Cuiming to go ahead and scout the way, and Liu Cuiming went alone to a distant place.

Before nightfall, the group arrived at a hilly area, which was easy to defend and difficult to attack, making it a good stronghold.

As Ah Qi walked, he kept looking down at the ground, as if searching for something. Xu Yuehuai was extremely curious and asked, "What are you looking for?"

"Grandma, take a look at this."

"What?"

Xu Yuehuai squatted down next to him.

Ah Qi used a wooden stick to rummage through animal droppings; it was a sticky, white mess, which Xu Yuehuai found strange.

"What animal left this?"

"Carnivorous animal".

In her previous life, Xu Yuehuai had also trained in the wild and polar regions, possessing the qualities of a special forces soldier. She understood the nature of the rodent droppings.

Because only the feces of carnivores are white.

"If we rest here, I'm afraid things might not be peaceful tonight." Ah Qi, despite his young age, was incredibly perceptive.

Xu Yuehua nodded.

They also found human-like hairs in the animal feces.

The group set up camp.

As night fell, a beautiful, clear moon hung in the sky, shining brightly and creating a poetic and picturesque scene. Just as they were having dinner, Xu Yuehuai discovered that Liu Cuiming was missing.

"Wasn't she just scouting the way?" someone blurted out.

Yes, in order to prevent her from having conflicts with Zhou Qionghua and her husband, Xu Yuehuai did indeed assign her to scout ahead.

They had indeed seen Liu Cuiming just now, but now that everyone was preparing to rest, they couldn't find her anywhere, which made people feel suspicious.

Someone started shouting.

But there was no response.

Xu Yuehuai turned around and saw specks of green light in the grass not far away.

She quickly realized what it was: a pack of hyenas.

The pack of hyenas stared at them menacingly, occasionally letting out mournful howls.

They still couldn't find Liu Cuiming.

"Could it be..." Jiang Shichen raised an eyebrow, "that you deserted your post?"

"No way, how could such a lazy and gluttonous person like her possibly break up with us? She probably would even love to go to the capital, Chang'an, with us."

Just as everyone was speculating, a bloodcurdling scream came from behind the distant hills. The scream sent chills down everyone's spines, and they hurriedly looked into the distance.

But the mountains blocked the view, and it was late at night; there was hardly anyone around.

It's her.

Xu Yuehuai pointed into the distance, and then heard another short cry for help. Naturally, she couldn't just stand by and watch someone die, so she grabbed her only dagger and headed in that direction.

He took two steps out but didn't forget to turn back and give Zhou Wan and the others some instructions.

"Everyone, please be careful and don't wander off. Let's get the campfire going."

One of the rules of wilderness survival is to keep plenty of campfires.

Animals are afraid of light and flame.

Everyone busied themselves with their own tasks, and the sound of the cry filled them with dread.

Seeing Xu Yuehuai leave with the dagger in her hand, Aqi followed behind, saying, "Grandma, I'll help you save your life."

Xu Yuehuai looked at Aqi and saw that he walked briskly and moved nimbly before nodding and saying, "Hurry up."

The two walked forward side by side.

Seeing Xu Yuehuai and Aqi go far away, Jiang Shichen said anxiously, "Grandma, I'm afraid this trip will be very dangerous. Mother, why didn't you say a word of advice?"

It's clear that the little guy's attitude towards her is no longer the same as before.

Seeing her child's changed opinion of her, Zhou Wan smiled bitterly, "She is a person who hates evil as if it were her enemy, and she is a good person inside and out. I hope she comes back safely."

Zhou Wan hurriedly ordered someone to light the fire.

Jiang Mingfu and Zhou Qionghua completely ignored Zhou Wan's instructions.

Seeing Xu Yuehuai walk away, Zhou Qionghua approached and reached out her hand, "I knew you still had food. Here's the barley flour, bring it out."

This barley flour is for saving lives.

Roasted barley flour, wrapped in gauze and sealed, can be stored for a month without spoiling. When you're hungry, you only need to take it out and eat a bite.

"Give it to me."

“Madam, why are you so eager to harm me? This is what I used to save my life. If we run out of food tomorrow, I will naturally take it out, but not now.” At this point, Zhou Wan pointed to the ground, “We need to start a fire quickly.”

"Give it to me."

Zhou Qionghua has always believed in "borrowing" ideas.

Seeing that Zhou Wan was unwilling, she snatched it without saying a word.

At that moment, the eldest brother's childish voice drifted over from behind.

"Mother, we must work together and not bully others."

Zhou Qionghua turned around in disbelief, staring at her youngest daughter who was "disciplining" her. She was utterly astonished, and then slapped her across the face. "I asked for food because of you, you good-for-nothing! Now look what's happened, you're taking advantage of me. After being involved with her for a while, don't you even know your own limitations?"

Enraged, Zhou Qionghua slapped him across the face.

The little girl couldn't withstand this and screamed as she collapsed to the ground.

Seeing Zhou Qionghua about to make her move, Zhou Wan stepped forward.

"You've gone too far! What do you know, a mere child? You've gone too far."

"I hit her too hard?" Zhou Qionghua sneered, pointing at Jiang Qianqian, who was slumped on the ground. "I was disciplining my daughter, what does it have to do with you? You can't stand it?"

"Madam, that's enough!"

Zhou Wan quickly helped Jiang Qianqian up.

He arranged for her to sit next to him, and Zhou Qionghua walked away grumbling.

It has to be said that Zhou Qionghua hit hard. Blood flowed from the corner of Jiang Qianqian's mouth. Before Zhou Wan could even reach out, Jiang Shichen's chubby little hand came over.

It turns out that even children can't stand this.

"Sister, don't be afraid of her. You can tell on her when Grandma comes back."

Jiang Qianqian didn't say anything.

Zhou Wan wanted to get her something to eat.

Having nothing of value, they could only sit down and wait.

A moment later, Jiang Qianqian burst into tears and hugged Zhou Wan tightly.

"Good child, cry, cry, cry if you feel wronged."

On the other side, Xu Yuehuai and Aqi walked forward, their steps uneven.

“Here, Grandma, look.” The little guy had a keen eye for observation. He pointed to the ground, and Xu Yuehuai looked closely and noticed the marks of animal claws, which were clearly left by a pack of wolves.

"Let's handle this carefully."

The two continued walking forward, only to see Liu Cuiming.

Liu Cuiming cried out in a sorry state, glancing back every now and then. Behind her, the wolf pack, like rolling dark clouds, was sweeping in at lightning speed. Aqi hurriedly lit the torch he had just made with a tinderbox.

Xu Yuehuai had already rescued Liu Cuiming.
