Xu Yuehuai didn't respond. Instead, she respectfully bowed to Dean Fu Jia as a disciple. Quan Cangyi stood beside her and followed suit. Dean Fu Jia looked at the two children with satisfaction. "This is a gift from your teacher. May your future be smooth and successful."
Xu Yuehuai accepted the gift without hesitation, saying, "May Master have all his wishes fulfilled year after year, day and night."
...
Time flies, especially when people want it to slow down. Xu Yuehuai prepared a set of fine cinnabar and a calligraphy brush for Dean Fu Jia. The calligraphy brush even had a spirit, making it extremely rare.
After delivering the gift, she returned to her courtyard on Siyue Peak. Compared to Fuzhou Peak, she had lived on Siyue Peak for a longer time and had a deeper relationship with Dean Guo. Dean Fu was aloof and cold, and the two cold-hearted people had little to say to each other. Dean Guo was different; he treated Xu Yuehuai like his precious darling.
However, it's impossible to say whether he favored one disciple over the other in cultivation. He was initially reluctant to accept Ji Yuanchi, but he gradually accepted her presence. He never showed favoritism in teaching and resources, but he admits that he did indeed favor Xu Yuehuai more in his own selfish desires.
However, this is only human nature, and even a practitioner cannot escape this.
Standing atop the mountain peak, on the rooftop, Xu Yuehuai watched the sun set, leaving only a dim yellow light on the horizon. The smile in her eyes was undeniable. She missed her two children so much, she missed... Qi Guze.
Two bottles of peach blossom wine sat beside her, their flavor pure and rich, a single sip enough to make one feel intoxicated. As night fell, everything was pitch black, and she was completely surrounded by darkness. Even though Xu Yuehuai was sitting on the roof, no one bothered her, not even a small flying insect.
The jade pendant at her waist was faintly burning. Xu Yuehuai was half-drunk and swaying precariously on the roof. Ji Yuanchi had returned home. This time, she would be away from home for a long time. Although Grandpa Pu and the others were reluctant to let her leave, the child was growing up and eventually wanted to go out and make her own way in the world.
So during these last two days, Ji Yuanchi devoted herself to staying at home with the Pu family. Xu Yuehuai was invited, but she declined. She wasn't the kind of person who was oblivious to others' feelings and would insist on crowding in to cause trouble when the family was having a reunion.
Xu Yuehuai, still dazed, summoned the silver sword and examined it carefully in her hand. A dark undercurrent surged in her eyes. She stood on the roof, raised the sword, and slashed through the air with a power that shook heaven and earth. The silver sword in her hand was like a serpent, moving through the air. Her feet spun and rolled on the roof ridge, which was less than a foot wide, before landing steadily.
Her sword flashed through the air, as if a real enemy stood before her. Perhaps due to her drunkenness, the brief sword dance had left her breathless. A carefree smile graced her face, and as if she had thought of something, her eyes sparkled.
She used the tip of her sword to pick up the wine bottle placed on the roof ridge. The wine slid down the blade to the hilt. She picked up the bottle and took a big gulp, leaving a mark on her lips. She wiped it away without a care.
When Xu Yuehuai sat back in her original seat, she glanced to the side and saw that Qi Guze was standing next to her!
Her hand holding the wine paused, then slowly raised to caress the face she had longed for day and night. But the next second, her hand passed straight through Qi Guze's body. The light in her eyes suddenly dimmed, and she let out a mocking laugh, as if saying why she had been daydreaming and indulging in wishful thinking.
"If only you were really like that." Xu Yuehuai turned her head away without blinking, afraid that the tears welling up in her eyes would fall.
Qi Guze smiled gently, his eyes filled with affection and tenderness, "Even if it's fake, it can still keep you company, right?"
When Xu Yuehuai heard the voice etched into her soul, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. It had been almost half a year, and in just one or two more months, she had been here for almost half a year. During this time, she hadn't met a single familiar face, and she had to start all over again from scratch.
To lose your loved one, your children, everything—how painful that must be for a person.
"Don't cry. I can't wipe your tears right now, and you're not worth crying for." Qi Guze felt a pain in his heart, as if it were being gnawed at, when he saw her tears.
His hand touched Xu Yuehuai's face, but he didn't get too close, creating the illusion that he was touching Xu Yuehuai. However, both of them knew that if he went any further, his almost transparent hand would pass right through Xu Yuehuai's body without hesitation.
Xu Yuehuai stopped crying, wiped the tears off her face, and then took a big gulp of wine to get herself drunk.
Seeing her in such pain, Qi Guze felt a pang of pity. He wanted to tell her the truth and persuade her not to go to the next level, but what would happen if he did? Would he make her give up? Would he make her abandon the four months of hard work she had put into cultivating day and night, and then tell her to stay here?
Then why did he give the jade pendant to Xu Yuehuai in the first place? At least he knew it wasn't to make Xu Yuehuai give up halfway through her efforts.
...
The wind was strong and cool at night. After sitting for a while, Xu Yuehuai returned to the courtyard. Qi Guze, who was seemingly always by her side, followed her closely. This was the first time they had met in three months, and he was reluctant to leave so soon. Now that the little girl was drunk, it wouldn't hurt to take a few more glances, right?
Qi Guze greedily thought that as Xu Yuehuai was about to wake up and the first rays of dawn appeared on the horizon, he stroked her face and whispered, "We will meet again on the second floor, but as the healer..."
The sound was faint and ethereal, drifting and lingering, and the person on the bed didn't know how much of it she heard. But what Xu Yuehuai didn't notice before falling asleep was that the jade pendant at her waist had turned bright red.
When Xu Yuehua woke up, she felt a dull and uncomfortable feeling in her head. She looked around the room and felt a little dazed, as if she had forgotten something.
She raised her hand and touched her face... as if someone had touched her not long ago.
The next day, Xu Yuehuai decided to go out for a walk. First, she took a bath and changed her dirty clothes.
Today she wore a light purple dress that perfectly accentuated her slender waist, and her long, jet-black hair cascaded over her shoulders.
The street vendors kept hawking their wares. Xu Yuehuai walked for a while but didn't see anything that interested her, so she simply found a teahouse.
The teahouse had a magnificent exterior, and the interior was even more eye-catching. Xu Yuehuai chose a private room on the second floor. It was quiet, and she could enjoy the scenery and tea by herself. Occasionally, she could hear gossip coming from next door.
