The Ghost Doctor looked up and saw a group of officials rushing towards them.
As soon as they arrived at the scene, they immediately surrounded the Ghost Doctor.
"It's him! He killed Butcher Liu!" someone in the crowd shouted.
"Just surrender now!"
Upon hearing this, the officials immediately stepped forward and seized the ghost doctor. They escorted the ghost doctor back to the yamen.
Inside the yamen, the Ghost Doctor was brought to the main hall. He removed his mask, revealing his handsome yet cold face.
When the officials saw it was him, they all stared in surprise.
"Doctor? It's you?" an official asked in surprise.
The Ghost Doctor smiled faintly and said, "It's me. However, I'm not the murderer. I'm just tracking down an assassin hiding in the shadows. They specialize in killing to silence witnesses, leaving behind that black sun pattern as a mark."
Upon hearing this, the officials all fell into deep thought. They hadn't expected that the Ghost Doctor would be involved in such a major case.
The night was as dark as ink, and the county government hall was brightly lit, but it could not conceal the grim atmosphere.
The county magistrate rushed over, his face grave. Seeing the officials gathered in a circle, he shouted sternly, "Who committed murder in broad daylight?"
Upon hearing this, the officials quickly made way, revealing a figure in the middle—the Ghost Doctor!
The previously noisy hall fell silent, leaving only the sound of flickering candlelight.
The magistrate took a few steps closer, carefully examining the ghost doctor before him, his eyes full of doubt: "Weren't you supposed to be investigating a case? How come you're here?"
The Ghost Doctor slowly spoke: "I am the one who was falsely accused of murder." Though his voice was soft, it struck the magistrate's heart like a heavy hammer.
The county magistrate was shocked and hurriedly asked, "What happened?"
The Ghost Doctor slowly explained, "It's a long story. I was originally investigating the cause of Wang Mazi's death, but unexpectedly, Butcher Liu jumped into the river right in front of me. When I finally tracked him down, he had already died."
The magistrate stared intently at the ghost doctor, his mind a complete mystery.
"It seems the other side has become aware of our investigation. Doctor, what are your plans for the next step?"
The Ghost Doctor smiled slightly, a sly glint in his eyes: "Since they want to kill me, why don't I play along? I need to change my identity and investigate the case in secret."
The magistrate nodded in agreement, but then asked with concern, "How will you leave the county office without arousing suspicion?"
The Ghost Doctor took out an exquisite mask from his pocket and handed it to the magistrate: "Here, take this mask. Find someone with a similar build to me to impersonate me, and then lock him up in jail. This way, we can both confuse our opponents and protect my safety."
The magistrate took the mask, a hint of appreciation flashing in his eyes: "That's a great idea! I'll arrange it right away."
Subsequently, the magistrate summoned his trusted confidants and explained the matter in detail.
Not long after, the sound of chains being dragged could be heard from inside the hall; the person impersonating the ghost doctor had been taken to the prison.
After arranging everything, the magistrate led the Ghost Doctor to the secret passage in front of the county government office. He patted the Ghost Doctor on the shoulder, "Going through here will allow you to leave safely. I hope you can find clues about the assassin soon and prove your innocence."
A determined glint flashed in the Ghost Doctor's eyes: "Rest assured, my lord, I will do my utmost." With that, he vanished into the darkness of the secret passage.
Standing at the entrance of the secret passage, the magistrate gazed at the dark tunnel, a nameless unease rising within him. He turned back and spotted a figure moving in the distance, seemingly spying on something. A thought struck him, and he immediately followed quietly.
When the man saw the county magistrate following him, he paused for a moment, then quickened his pace.
The county magistrate followed closely behind, the two of them moving through the night. Soon, they arrived at a dense forest.
The man stopped and turned to face the county magistrate.
Moonlight filtered through the treetops, illuminating his face and revealing an unfamiliar one. He looked coldly at the magistrate and asked, "Why were you following me?"
The magistrate said coldly, "I'm just protecting an innocent person."
A hint of surprise flashed in the man's eyes: "You mean that doctor?"
Magistrate: "That's right. I believe he was framed. And I also believe the killer must be someone else."
The man suddenly spoke up: "Since you trust him so much, I'll tell you a secret. Actually, I'm also one of the victims."
The county magistrate was taken aback by these words, and then asked, "What do you mean?"
The man gave a bitter smile. “I was one of those people framed by that assassin. I was originally an ordinary businessman, but I was hunted down after accidentally learning some secrets. Later, I met that doctor, who helped me escape. From then on, I decided to secretly assist him in investigating the case.”
The magistrate was shocked: "So, you've been secretly protecting him all along?"
The man nodded: "That's right. I know this road is dangerous, but I can't just stand by and watch an innocent person be harmed!"
A surge of respect welled up in the magistrate's heart: "Thank you for telling me all this. I believe that with your help, we will definitely be able to find the killer and clear the doctor's name."
The two exchanged a smile, then disappeared into the dense forest. The night was as still as water, and moonlight bathed the earth, as if shrouding this conspiracy in mystery…
The Ghost Doctor successfully left the county government office and continued to investigate these cases in secret.
Gradually, he found some people in the capital who had special marks on their bodies, and planned to investigate them one by one to find out who was related to Wang Mazi and others.
However, just as they were about to get to the heart of the case, a sudden crisis swept in like a giant wave.
It was a quiet night. In the dilapidated temple, the Ghost Doctor pondered the information he had gathered over the past few days.
Moonlight streamed through the mottled windowpanes, illuminating his slightly weary face.
Suddenly, a rustling sound came from all around, as if it were a sign that a storm was about to break.
The Ghost Doctor immediately became alert, quickly stood up, and hid behind the door like a ghost.
Several men in black entered the temple like ghosts, wielding swords and their eyes were as fierce as wolves.
They searched the temple thoroughly, as if looking for something.
The Ghost Doctor pressed himself against the door, barely daring to breathe, for fear of being discovered.
However, a man in black suddenly glanced behind the door, a hint of alertness flashing in his eyes.
"There!" the man in black shouted, swinging his knife toward the door.
"You want to hurt me? You've got some nerve!"
The Ghost Doctor dodged the attack with a swift movement. He quickly counterattacked, engaging the man in black in a fierce battle.
Within the dilapidated temple, men in black moved like ghosts, their figures appearing and disappearing in the dim candlelight, each strike swift and ruthless.
