Chapter 1299 Unwavering Devotion

Xu Yuehuai returned to her room in the palace and wearily took off her heavy outer robe.

A faint sandalwood scent filled the room, calming the mind.

After washing up, she walked to the bronze mirror and combed her long hair with an exquisite jade comb. In the mirror, her eyes were sharp and her brows revealed a hint of unyielding spirit.

Just as she was about to change into a lighter dress, she heard soft footsteps outside the door.

Xu Yuehuai gripped the hidden weapon tightly, quickly put her clothes on, and at the same time, the hidden weapon in her hand was ready to be fired.

The door was gently pushed open, and a figure quietly entered. Without thinking, Xu Yuehuai threw out a hidden weapon, but the newcomer caught it easily in a flash.

She looked up and saw that it was Bai Yu.

Bai Yu, holding a hidden weapon, laughed and said, "You're trying to murder your husband!"

Xu Yuehuai snorted coldly, her brows furrowed: "Don't flatter yourself. My husband is much better than you."

Bai Yu smiled dismissively and took a few steps closer: "One day you will be my woman."

A hint of disdain flashed across Xu Yuehuai's face. She coldly replied, "You guys are all so annoying. How many times do I have to reject you before you understand? I will only ever be Aze's woman in this lifetime."

Bai Yu's expression changed slightly. He stared intently into Xu Yuehuai's eyes, trying to find a trace of wavering. However, all he saw was determination and indifference.

He sighed, a hint of helplessness in his voice: "It seems that besides me, there are many other people who are devoted to you. You are really cold-hearted."

Xu Yuehuai did not respond. She continued to tidy her clothes, as if Bai Yu's words had no effect on her.

Seeing this, Bai Yu knew that continuing the argument would be pointless, so he changed the subject: "I want to thank you for saving me last time. If you want to live a good life, stay in the palace. Otherwise, those who want to kill me won't let you go either."

Xu Yuehuai stopped what she was doing, raised her head, and stared coldly at Bai Yu: "Your Majesty need not worry about that. I have my own way of ensuring my safety."

Bai Yu looked at her, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. He knew Xu Yuehuai was a smart and independent woman; she didn't need anyone's protection. But he still couldn't help but try to persuade her again, "Why can't you understand me? How can I possibly persuade you?"

Xu Yuehuai coldly replied, "You guys are all so annoying. I've already made myself very clear. I will only ever be Aze's woman in this lifetime."

Bai Yu knew there was no point in trying to persuade him any further, so he turned to leave, but before he left, he couldn't help but look back at Xu Yuehuai.

He saw the determination and resolve in her eyes, and he also saw the scars on her body from the afternoon's battle. A thought struck him, and he couldn't help but ask, "Were you badly injured in your fight with those soldiers this afternoon?"

Xu Yuehuai didn't look up at him, but simply replied, "It's just a minor injury, nothing serious."

Looking at her nonchalant demeanor, Bai Yu couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration.

Xu Yuehuai is a resilient and courageous woman; she doesn't need anyone's sympathy or pity.

He left the room silently, but a deeper desire to win over Xu Yuehuai grew within him.

Xu Yuehuai sat on the edge of the bed and began to apply medicine to herself.

She gently applied the ointment, her face expressionless. She knew that although her wound wasn't deep, it still needed proper treatment. She didn't want a minor injury to affect her mobility.

After applying the medicine, she lay on the bed, gazing at the starry sky outside the window, lost in thought.

She recalled Qi Guze's smile and gentle eyes, and a warm feeling welled up in her heart.

At this moment, she still firmly believed that her choice was right. Whether in the past or in the future, she would only ever be Aze's woman!

The moonlight shone on Xu Yuehuai, casting a mysterious halo around her figure. She lay there quietly, as if isolated from the world.

However, she was filled with strength and conviction, and she knew she could face anything.

...

The moonlight, as white as silver, spilled over the silent capital.

Xu Yuehuai gripped the token given to her by Bai Yu tightly. Tonight's operation was unusual, and she had to be extremely careful with every step she took!

Stepping into the military camp, the night made it exceptionally quiet.

Xu Yuehuai's footsteps echoed through the empty camp, breaking the silence of the night.

"Who is it? Disturbing people's rest so late at night." Xiao Liu's voice came from the tent, tinged with displeasure.

Xu Yuehuai responded softly, "It's me."

"Oh, it's you, sir!" Xiao Liu's voice immediately became respectful. "Please wait a moment, I'll go and wake them up."

Soon, the sound of people getting dressed could be heard in the camp.

Xiao Rui was the first to change into his night clothes and come out. He walked up to Xu Yuehuai with a puzzled look on his face: "Sir, what exactly are we going to do tonight?"

Xu Yuehuai looked at Xiao Rui with curiosity in her eyes: "Are you scared?"

Xiao Rui shook his head: "No, I have to be responsible for my brothers and ensure their safety."

Xu Yuehuai was slightly taken aback; she hadn't expected Xiao Rui to say that. She smiled slightly and patted Xiao Rui's shoulder: "Don't worry, we're just going to conduct a simple investigation near the capital tonight; there's nothing dangerous."

Xiao Rui breathed a sigh of relief and nodded: "Okay, thank you, sir."

As the last person finished changing, Xu Yuehuai took a deep breath, used her light-footed skill to leap up, and landed gracefully on the palace wall. She glanced back at Xiao Rui and the others following behind her, already having some plans in mind.

"Let's go," she said softly.

The group left the palace silently and arrived at a theater in the capital. The theater was brightly lit and bustling with people, a stark contrast to the surrounding silence.

"I didn't expect there to be such a lively place," Xiao Liu said in a low voice, looking around curiously.

Xu Yuehuai glanced around warily and whispered, "Be careful later, don't say anything carelessly. We need to find out who's here and if there are any hidden factions."

Everyone nodded in agreement, and then quietly entered the theater through the back door.

The theater was bustling with noise as the actors performed energetically on stage. Xu Yuehuai and the others dispersed, each searching for clues.

Xu Yuehuai arrived at the top floor, where the view was expansive, overlooking the entire opera house. She carefully observed the situation below, trying to find anything unusual. However, everything seemed ordinary, with nothing out of the ordinary.

Just as she was about to leave, she suddenly heard the sound of fighting.

Startled, she immediately held her breath and cautiously approached the direction from which the sound came.

Through a half-open window, she saw a shocking scene.

A woman dressed in women's clothing was seen fiercely fighting several men in black. The woman was agile and her moves were sharp, but her face was unusually flushed.
