The dark dungeon was located underground in the palace, cold and damp. The guards led them through winding corridors until they finally arrived at the cells where the assassins were imprisoned.
The assassin in the cell was unconscious. Xia Sen took out a silver needle without hesitation and accurately stuck it into the assassin's head.
The stimulation from the silver needles jolted the assassin awake. A flicker of fear crossed his eyes, but more so, anger and resentment.
Xu Yuehuai stood outside the cell and said coldly, "Let the interrogation begin!" Her voice echoed in the dark cell, carrying an irresistible authority.
Tie Xiong sneered, stepped forward, and stared at the assassin with cold eyes: "Speak! Who sent you? What is your purpose?"
The assassin stared at Tie Xiong without uttering a word. Tie Xiong's sneer deepened. He reached out, grabbed the assassin's collar, and with a forceful pull, dragged him out of the cell.
The assassin struggled to break free, but to no avail.
Xia Sen stood to the side, the silver needles in his hand gleaming coldly. He was ready to use the needles to stimulate the assassin's acupoints at any moment, rendering the assassin unable to resist interrogation.
Meanwhile, the guards stood watch at the cell door to ensure that no one else could interfere with the interrogation.
Xu Yuehuai stood to the side, her gaze calm and sharp. She stared at the assassin, as if she could see through his inner secrets. She knew this interrogation was crucial; the mastermind behind it all had to be found as soon as possible.
Tie Xiong, known for his cruelty and ruthlessness, is the number one interrogator in the secret guards, and he is using his various torture instruments to put pressure on the assassin.
The assassin, though a tough guy, finally spoke up under Tie Xiong's cruel methods.
His voice was low and hoarse, as if squeezed from the abyss, filled with despair and helplessness. Every word, every phrase, seemed to be squeezed out by endless pain and torment. Nevertheless, his words still revealed some important information.
“I…I really only know this much.” The assassin gasped for breath, fear and pain flashing in his eyes. “She…she just told me to…to kill that target. I…I really don’t know who she is.”
Xu Yuehuai stood to the side, listening quietly. A glint flashed in her eyes—a yearning for the truth and a steadfast commitment to justice. She knew that the interrogation had made significant progress.
Unexpectedly, it all had something to do with an official's daughter!
Although the assassin didn't know the official's daughter's exact identity, this information was enough for her to investigate.
As the interrogation deepened, Xu Yuehuai gained a clearer understanding of the truth behind the scenes. She began to realize that this incident was not a simple assassination, but a conspiracy against Qi Hanlin.
Qi Hanlin, the newly crowned emperor who had just begun to rise in the court, unexpectedly became the target of this conspiracy.
Xu Yuehuai decided that she must uncover the truth. She not only wanted to seek justice for Xiaolian, but also to eliminate the corrupt practices within the Great Zhou Dynasty's court.
The cell lights were dim and flickering, making Tie Xiong's torture instruments appear even more sinister and terrifying. But Xu Yuehuai's eyes were firm and bright, as if they could pierce through the darkness and reach the core of the truth.
The assassin trembled in agony, his voice growing weaker and weaker, yet every word seemed etched into Xu Yuehuai's heart. She took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, as if calming herself and gathering her strength.
"I will find her." Xu Yuehuai's voice was firm and powerful. "I will uncover the truth behind all of this."
Her gaze swept across the cell, finally settling on the tormented killer. A flicker of sympathy crossed her eyes, but more so, a resolute determination. She knew this killer was merely a minor player in this conspiracy; the true mastermind was still lurking in the shadows.
After the interrogation, Xia Sen and Tie Xiong took the killer back to his cell.
Xu Yuehuai stood outside the cell, deep in thought about her next move. She knew that this struggle had only just begun, and she had to be fully prepared to face an even bigger conspiracy.
She will use her wisdom and courage to deal with those rats in the gutter!
As Xu Yuehuai walked out of the prison cell, her heart was filled with faith and hope. She knew that as long as she persevered, the truth would eventually come to light.
With Xu Yuehuai gone, the cell fell into darkness and silence once again.
"Ah—! Please let me go!"
Only the tormented killer continued to groan, as if calling for the arrival of justice.
Xu Yuehuai's figure had already disappeared into the depths of the prison, leaving only a resolute silhouette, as if telling everyone of her determination.
...
After Xu Yuehuai returned to the side hall, Xia Sen followed closely behind, his steps light yet somewhat hurried.
He pushed open the door and entered, a concerned look on his face. He looked at Xu Yuehuai and asked, "Sister, how is Xiaolian? Is the child alright?"
Xu Yuehuai turned around, her eyes revealing a hint of weariness, but even more so, resilience and gentleness.
She gently patted Xia Sen's shoulder to reassure him, "Don't worry, I've already checked Xiao Lian's pulse, the baby is healthy. It's just that her body needs proper care, so I'd like you to prescribe some medication to help with the pregnancy."
Upon hearing this, Xia Sen nodded quickly, "Okay, sister!"
Xu Yuehua smiled slightly, feeling very grateful to him.
Then, Xia Sen walked to the table and sat down, beginning to carefully write the prescription. His handwriting was elegant yet powerful, each stroke revealing his respect for life.
Xu Yuehuai stood to the side, watching his focused expression, and a warm feeling welled up in her heart.
After a while, Xia Sen finished writing the prescription and gave it to Xu Yuehuai.
Xu Yuehuai then handed the medicine to the guard beside her, saying, "These days, you personally go and get the medicine and brew it, and supervise how you feed it to Xiaolian. Make sure the quality and safety of the medicine are guaranteed."
The guard took the prescription and nodded solemnly. "Yes, Master. Rest assured, I will handle this matter well."
Xu Yuehua nodded and watched the guard leave the room.
She turned around and looked at the sky outside the window. The sky was already turning a pale white, and a new day was about to begin. She couldn't help but fall into deep thought, "I wonder how the battle in the Underworld Moon Kingdom is going now."
“Brother-in-law is such a capable man, he definitely won’t be defeated,” Xia Sen said, walking to Xu Yuehuai’s side. “Sister, don’t worry too much. Brother-in-law is a hero of the Great Zhou Kingdom, he will definitely return in triumph.”
Xu Yuehuai smiled slightly and nodded: "I knew he would come back. But this battle concerns the safety of the entire four kingdoms, how could I not worry?"
"Everything will be alright, just let nature take its course," Xia Sen comforted her.
The two stood by the window, silently watching the sky outside gradually brighten. Their hearts were filled with anticipation and hope, believing that the brave and fearless man on the battlefield would surely return safely.
