Xu Yuehuai's gaze did not linger; he looked up into the distance, searching for hope of survival, preparing to lead Yunshang away from this deadly place.
Just as she took a step, preparing to leave this hellish scene, a cold wind swept by, and a dark figure appeared silently not far from them like a ghost, its eyes gleaming coldly in the night.
"Dumb, I know it's you." The fake ghost doctor's voice came.
Upon hearing this, Xu Yuehuai sneered, "You must have mistaken me for someone else. I am not the 'dumbass' you claim to be."
The fake doctor suddenly smiled and slowly approached: "Don't pretend in front of me anymore. Every little reaction of yours is seen by me. Come with me, or I'll report you to the authorities right now and have you and this girl arrested together."
Xu Yuehuai's heart sank. She realized that the enemy in front of her was not only cunning, but also a force to be reckoned with.
"I never imagined that this whole scheme was designed to make me willingly follow you. But I have one condition."
"Oh? Tell me about it." The fake ghost doctor didn't seem to be in a hurry to make a move, but instead waited with great interest for Xu Yuehuai's conditions.
“Yunshang is seriously injured. If you can heal her burns and save her life, I will go with you,” Xu Yuehuai said, looking at him.
The fake doctor confidently said, "What's so difficult about that? It's just a small matter."
As he spoke, he slowly took out an antique porcelain bottle from his robes, gently opened it, and a strange fragrance wafted out. He poured out a lustrous pill and fed it to Yunshang without hesitation.
The pill melted instantly upon entering her mouth, and Yunshang's body tensed up immediately, followed by a painful groan.
"Ahhh!"
Xu Yuehuai's expression changed drastically, and she glared at the fake ghost doctor: "What did you do to her? You didn't feed her poison, did you!"
The fake ghost doctor snorted coldly, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes: "Although I am not a righteous person, I would never stoop to such despicable means. Just watch."
As soon as she finished speaking, strange changes began to occur on Yunshang's body. The originally hideous burn marks were gradually replaced by a layer of eerie red patterns. These patterns seemed to have a life of their own, moving under Yunshang's skin as if countless tiny insects were busy repairing her damaged skin.
As time went by, the burned areas began to scab over, and then the scabs fell off one by one, revealing the new skin underneath, which was fair and smooth, as if it had never been injured.
Even the wounds on Yunshang's face miraculously healed, leaving only faint marks, indicating that she would soon regain her former beauty.
This scene shocked Xu Yuehuai and Yunshang. They looked at each other, their eyes filled with disbelief.
Xu Yuehuai couldn't help but have some doubts about the fake ghost doctor's medical skills. He had said before that his medical skills were not good. Was he just faking it?
As for Yunshang, although she had not yet woken up, her tightly furrowed brows gradually relaxed, as if she was also enjoying this redemption from the darkness.
"Now, do you have anything else to say?" The fake ghost doctor's voice rang out again, tinged with smugness.
Xu Yuehuai was silent for a moment, then finally said, "I promise you, I will go with you. But you must promise that you will not hurt Yunshang again, nor will you use us to do anything immoral."
The fake doctor didn't answer directly, but turned and walked away, leaving behind a sentence that drifted in the wind: "We'll talk when you're qualified to negotiate with me."
Xu Yuehuai, carrying Yunshang, followed closely behind, keeping up with his pace once again.
Outside the mansion, Xu Yuehuai gently stroked Yunshang's slightly nervous hand, "Yunshang, don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
Yunshang looked up at her and said, "Yes, be careful."
The fake doctor stood not far away, his impatience evident. He flashed and appeared beside Xu Yuehuai like a ghost, grabbing her wrist without a word, with such force that it seemed he wanted to crush her bones.
"What are you dawdling for? Get in the car!"
Inside the carriage, the fake doctor's eyes were like knives, piercing straight into Xu Yuehuai's heart.
"Why are you forcing me? Haven't I been good enough to you? Who exactly are you?" Every word he uttered seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth, full of accusation.
"Guess?" Her answer was casual, but it was enough to ignite the fake doctor's rage even more.
"If I'm not mistaken, you are the Regent's Consort of the Great Zhou Kingdom, Xu Yuehuai." The fake ghost doctor's tone was both certain and doubtful, as if he both believed and disbelieved his own judgment.
Xu Yuehuai raised an eyebrow slightly, seemingly unsurprised that her disguise had been seen through. "Was my disguise really that bad? How did you recognize me?"
The fake ghost doctor sneered, "In this world, who else but you, Xu Yuehuai, could be so audacious and exceptionally intelligent?"
After saying that, he took out a pill from his sleeve and handed it to Xu Yuehuai without allowing any refusal, "Take this."
Xu Yuehuai felt a chill run down her spine, but she knew that resisting at this moment would be futile, so she had no choice but to take the pill and swallow it in one gulp.
Instantly, an indescribable pain surged from her lower abdomen, causing her to tremble all over and even making it difficult to breathe.
Upon seeing this, the fake ghost doctor's eyes flashed with a complex emotion. He then stepped forward, hugged her tightly, and let her struggle in his arms until she completely lost consciousness.
When Xu Yuehua woke up again, she found herself in that familiar room, in the mansion of the fake ghost doctor.
The moonlight outside the window was hazy, and the room was completely silent.
She tried to get up, but found that she was still weak and powerless.
Just then, the door was gently pushed open, and Yunshang's voice came through: "It's me."
Xu Yuehuai struggled to sit up and looked at the familiar figure at the door, a warm feeling welling up in her heart.
"Are you alright?" she asked with concern.
Yunshang walked quickly to the bedside, her eyes slightly red. "I'm fine. That person arranged for me to come and be your maid."
Xu Yuehuai gently shook her head, "There's no need for that. You are my savior. We can just call each other sisters."
She reached out and pulled Yunshang over to sit down on the edge of the bed. "When you came in just now, did you notice anything unusual?"
Yunshang shook her head. "They brought me here blindfolded, so I didn't see anything clearly." Her tone was tinged with frustration.
Xu Yuehuai smiled slightly and comforted her, "It's alright, I will find out the truth."
She noticed the weariness and hunger in Yunshang's eyes, so she said softly, "Are you hungry too? I'll go to the small kitchen and make something to eat."
As night deepened, moonlight, like fine threads, filtered through the window lattice, spilling into every corner of the room and adding a touch of softness to the somewhat somber space.
Xu Yuehuai moved nimbly between the kitchen and the dining table. The few simple home-style dishes on the tray in her hand were fragrant and mouthwatering.
She gently arranged the dishes one by one, and sat opposite Yunshang, intending to enjoy this rare moment of peace. Unexpectedly, a sudden burst of hurried footsteps broke the harmony.
