Chapter 1956 A Joke

Ning Xi spat out a mouthful of blood, her eyes filled with resentment and anger. All her emotions converged, her eyes turning bloodshot. One hand gripped the ground tightly, blood seeping from it. She felt that her ending shouldn't be like this. She was clearly the eldest disciple of the Zhentian Clan, and should have enjoyed the attention of thousands, being the most esteemed being. But now?

She lay disheveled on the ground, stared at by the others as if she were a stray dog. Their gazes felt like needles pricking her, making her feel unbearable and filled with embarrassment. At that moment, all she wanted to do was find a hole to crawl into.

Seeing his daughter like this, Sect Leader Ning, who was on the judges' panel, stood up and clenched his fists. "Since the competition is over, I will take her with me. My daughter is a bit proud and arrogant, please forgive her."

As he spoke, Sect Leader Ning stepped forward, intending to take Ning Xi's hand and leave the scene, but Xu Yuehuai's silver sword blocked the two of them. "Hey, don't rush, there are still things to take care of."

Xu Yuehuai's words immediately brought Ning Xi back to reality. She trembled all over, never having considered that she would lose, and naturally never having considered what she should do if things really came to this.

Ning Xi subconsciously withdrew her hand, her eyes darting away, avoiding Xu Yuehuai's gaze. Seeing her like this, Sect Leader Ning felt a surge of anger and wanted to lash out, but knowing that now was not the time, he clenched his fists, his eyes filled with amusement, and said with a laugh, "It was just a joke, why did you take it so seriously?"

"How could such a thing be taken seriously, little Xu? Look at this, how can something that could ruin someone's life be done so casually? If you do something like this, aren't you afraid of being gossiped about behind your back?" Sect Master Ning smiled, but his words were disgusting.

Zi Sangyi stood up and walked onto the stage, standing next to Xu Yuehuai. With one hand behind her back and the other pointing at Sect Leader Ning, she said, "We old folks shouldn't interfere in the affairs of these juniors. Let them resolve their own problems."

"You're here spouting nonsense trying to protect your disciple, but if my disciple were to lose today, would you say this is a joke? You'd probably want to hold a knife to her throat and threaten her to withdraw from the competition immediately!" Zi Sangyi's tone grew increasingly harsh, causing Sect Master Ning's face to turn from black to purple, and then from purple to black again.

An awkward atmosphere filled the air as everyone stared intently at the chaotic scene, eager to know who would emerge victorious.

Ning Xi also got up from the bed. She didn't speak, her eyes darting around, clearly trying to gloss over the matter. The air fell silent as both sides stood in a standoff, while those below were still unaware of what had happened.

Nangong Yu had a loud voice, and since he was close by, he pulled Shangguan Xi aside and started whispering and making a fuss, "Oh my, who is this? Why is he on the stage? Doesn't your Sect Leader Ning intend to abide by the rules? He said that if you lose, you'll have your tendons severed, so why are you going back on your word now? This is not a good thing!"

Nangong Sheng told everyone about it, and for a moment everyone looked at each other and discussed it. They all looked at Ning Xi and Sect Leader Ning with disgust and disdain.

"The Ning family is indeed unworthy of the position. There was a reason why they weren't made the sect leader back then. Now it seems they really don't deserve it."

"At this point, they're still trying to renege on their debt. I was wondering if they were discussing how to handle this. No class, no class at all!"

"You make it sound so easy, but have you considered that Ning Xi is the eldest disciple of our Zhentian Clan? What would happen to our Zhentian Clan if something happened to her? Besides, haven't we already acknowledged Xu Yuehuai's victory? Why are you still being so aggressive? Letting someone off the hook is not a difficult thing!"

"Are you people from the Zhentian Clan here to be funny? Now you know to let someone go? When you proposed to cancel Xu Yuehuai's first place in the competition, why didn't you object? Now you're pretending to be good people. If you ask me, you're just disgusting!"

The people below spoke loudly, their obvious disdain for them making those people lose face.

The Zhentian Clan are selfish in speech and action, which has led to a united front against them.

Those members of the Zhentian clan who were criticized didn't know what to say. They could only keep a straight face and endure it all. Afterwards, they looked at the others with resentment, as if they had suffered a great injustice.

"We do not support letting Ning Xi's matter drop. This was agreed upon in advance. Are you trying to back out and not want to do it anymore, so you're just making up this excuse?" Shangguan Xi pressed aggressively as she walked onto the stage, her eyes like an eagle's as she looked at Ning Xi, wanting to know what she would use to confront her at this moment.

Ning Xi didn't speak. She knew she was in the wrong. If she spoke now, wouldn't that be tantamount to handing over her weakness to others?

She raised her head high, looking arrogant and smug, her eyes filled with disdain and annoyance as she looked at the others.

Xu Yuehuai changed the direction of her silver sword and headed straight for Ning Xi. When the tip of the sword touched Ning Xi, she didn't react at all. The moment the cold iron touched her skin, the chill seeped into her bones.

A stinging pain shot through her hand, causing her excruciating agony. As one hand bled profusely, she tried to reach out with her other hand to help, but unexpectedly, the silver sword turned and struck her other hand in the next second. When both hands were struck at the same time, despair filled Ning Xi's eyes. The people around her hadn't even realized what had happened or how things had turned out this way all of a sudden.

Everyone stared wide-eyed at the sudden scene, their mouths agape in astonishment.

Even Shangguan Xi and Nangong Yu, who were standing nearby, were caught off guard and didn't realize what had happened. Sect Leader Ning felt as if his face was being slapped repeatedly. He had just finished speaking, and now this had happened. Wasn't this blatant humiliation?

Zi Sangyi was pleased and looked at Sect Leader Ning with a smile, "Oh, if you ask me, this is how this matter should be handled. We should have taken action long ago. It's really been too lenient of us to drag it out until now."

Sect Leader Ning's chest heaved as he wanted to speak, but he didn't know what to say to refute Zi Sangyi.
