Xu Yuehuai gradually became delirious, her voice weak and feeble. Fu Ziyi wasn't in much better shape. The two sat back to back, Fu Ziyi gazing into the distance at the endless road ahead. He said, "You know what, if we both die here, it'll be like we've died together. We can't live together, but we can die together. Hearing that makes it a little less painful sometimes."
Fu Ziyi's tone was so irritating that Xu Yuehuai used her last bit of strength to elbow him in the lower back, and the man chuckled twice. Xu Yuehuai then picked up the jade pendant at her waist and examined it closely. The patterns were intact, the jade had a good luster, and there were no chips or scratches. She smiled with satisfaction, her eyes filled with contentment.
Sunlight streamed through the cracks, illuminating the space. Xu Yuehuai's eyes were closed; she had fallen into a deep sleep. When Fu Ziyi realized the person behind him wasn't responding, his heart pounded like a drum. "Xu Yuehuai? Are you asleep?"
Fu Ziyi didn't receive a response from Xu Yuehuai, and he started to panic. He turned around, wanting to look at Xu Yuehuai's face, but found that even turning around was difficult. His hands trembled as he tried to grab Xu Yuehuai's hand, but he was too tired, and even the simple action of raising his hand became difficult.
"Why did you fall asleep? You left me all alone here. You're really heartless. If anyone says you're not heartless in the future, I'll be the first to disagree." Fu Ziyi spoke a long sentence in fits and starts, which was one of the few times he spoke at length without being aggressive.
He slowly drifted off to sleep, and the two of them lay back to back, their eyes closed, their skin pale, the light shining on their faces as if something was calling to them.
When Xu Yuehuai opened her eyes again, she was in a familiar scene. Her brain went blank for a moment. She looked around carefully and found Yuan Shui sitting in that familiar recliner. Only then did her doubts lessen.
It's probably because Yuan Shui brought her in from outside; if you think about it that way, it's not hard to guess.
Xu Yuehuai sat up. There was another person on the carpet next to her, Fu Ziyi. Fu Ziyi's brows were furrowed, and there was some anxiety between his brows, which made people feel sorry for him.
Xu Yuehuai took two steps forward. Bai Ze, who was standing guard beside her, saw that she had woken up. Before Xu Yuehuai could even ask, she took the initiative to explain what had happened, "Lord Yuanshui saw that you had all fainted outside, so he asked me to go with him to bring you back. Master, how are you feeling now? Are you alright?"
Bai Ze circled around Xu Yuehuai, trying to check on her condition.
Xu Yuehuai patted her head. "I'm fine now."
"Look at you, you know there's danger but you don't even come to hide in this space. Is this huge space just for you to use as decoration?" Yuan Shui, now grown up, still couldn't hold back her sharp tongue.
Xu Yuehuai looked over, not yet finding the boy pleasing to the eye. He had been shorter than her before, but now he was taller and looked quite strong and sturdy. This made Xu Yuehuai feel a little unbalanced. "Stop talking nonsense, Yuan Shui. How did you grow so tall? What did you eat to grow so tall these days?"
Xu Yuehuai didn't seem to care about what had just happened outside. The fact that she could still chat and laugh with Yuan Shui showed that Yuan Shui gave her a condescending look and said indifferently, "I know what you're thinking, but unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about it. You'll have to do it yourself. Good luck, I believe you can do it."
To avoid appearing perfunctory, Yuan Shui added a grand-sounding remark at the end, leaving Xu Yuehua speechless. However, out of politeness, she responded with a simple nod.
Since Yuan Shui's upgrade, this was their first official meeting. Both of them were a little reserved, speaking cautiously, which was quite obvious.
Xu Yuehuai walked over to Fu Ziyi, who was lying on the bed, his life hanging in the balance. He seemed to be sleeping even more soundly. Xu Yuehuai couldn't help but ask, "How did we faint? Why did we faint?"
Xu Yuehuai remained puzzled, while Yuan Shui, standing beside her, shrugged and wore an innocent expression. "I don't know either. There's probably some kind of gas in this cave that made you both dizzy."
Yuan Shui spoke casually, showing no sign of caring at all, and even his act of rescuing Xu Yuehuai and Fu Ziyi seemed as if it were just a matter of course.
Bai Ze watched Yuan Shui act. She didn't expose her, but she wanted to. However, when she thought that she would be facing Yuan Shui most of the time in the future, the little thought that had just risen in her mind was put to rest.
Xu Yuehuai fed Fu Ziyi a few pills.
...
"That son of a bitch! He can really run! Don't think he's escaped this time just because he's disappeared. If I ever see him here again, I'll skin him alive!" Nangong Yu was furious. Now that the only person who knew how to rescue Xu Yuehuai and Fu Ziyi was gone, the rest of them had no choice but to exchange glances and then walk back in silence.
Nangong Yu became unusually silent. He lowered his head, his teeth clenched. His hatred for Ying Ziping had become more than just simple. On the way back, Nangong Yu was in a very low mood. Seeing that everyone was so silent, Shi Mu couldn't help but comfort them, saying, "You don't have to be so pessimistic, right? What if Senior Sister survives? Don't underestimate Senior Sister. She's very powerful."
Shi Mu's tone was somewhat light, offering them a moment of respite. Cheng Chi and the others knew what it felt like to lose a teammate, so for once, they refrained from making any sarcastic remarks and remained silent.
When they returned to the inn, the owner immediately sensed that something was wrong with them. It was no longer just a simple matter between Ying Ziping and the innkeeper. The owner had a premonition. He walked around the counter and stood in front of them. "What happened to you? Tell me and see if there's anything I can do to help."
The boss is a very righteous person. He doesn't have that much spiritual power; he's only capable of protecting himself with his current level of spiritual power. But his spirit of wanting to do something for them is enough to make people grateful to him.
No one spoke. Cheng Chi, who was standing to the side, put his arm around the boss's shoulder and led him out the door, saying in a low voice as he went, "Something happened between them. Let them calm down."
