Xu Yuehuai was stunned. She hadn't expected the masked man to know that she had a map. This small map was something she and Qi Guze had gone through a lot of trouble to obtain last time, and it was said to contain the secrets to the modern world.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Xu Yuehuai said calmly.
The masked man sneered, "You think I don't know? Your aura has already given you away. That map was hidden on you, wasn't it?"
Xu Yuehuai remained silent. She knew she had nowhere to run now and could only hope that General Lin would find her as soon as possible.
"It seems I'll have to resort to some means to get what I want," the masked man said, taking out a bottle of pills from his robes and handing it to the man in black.
The man in black robes took the pills, took one out, and forcibly fed it to Xu Yuehuai.
"Ugh, ugh!"
Xu Yuehuai was forced to open her mouth and swallow the pill.
"Ahhh!"
The pill melted instantly upon entering her mouth, and a powerful medicinal force surged throughout her body. A sharp pain began to throb in her head, as if countless needles were piercing it. She groaned in agony, her body trembling uncontrollably.
"Hahahaha!" The masked man grinned triumphantly as he looked at Xu Yuehuai's pained expression. "This is the price you pay for defying me! Now tell me where the map is!"
However, Xu Yuehuai was already in so much pain that she could no longer control her will.
But she absolutely could not succumb to this devilish man!
In a corner of the temple, Xu Yuehuai curled up in a ball, her tongue bitten until it bled, but even in unbearable pain, she clenched her teeth and didn't make a sound. The indomitable light in her eyes seemed to proclaim her stubbornness and tenacity.
"I never expected you to have such a strong heart. You took the poison I concocted, yet you weren't controlled by me. What a pleasant surprise!"
The masked man stood not far away, his gaze as sharp as a hawk's, but faced with Xu Yuehuai's unwavering resolve, he was helpless. He couldn't simply kill her, so he could only order his men to guard her.
"I'll give you one last chance. If you still don't know what's good for you, then I'll have no choice but to send you to your death."
The masked man left a warning, his tone always so condescending.
With the masked man gone, Xu Yuehuai's world fell silent.
Her body was already covered in wounds, and her robes were stained with blood.
Xu Yuehuai moved her body with difficulty, pressing acupoints in an attempt to stop the gushing blood.
However, her inner strength was completely exhausted, and every struggle left her feeling powerless.
She tore at her robes and wrapped the fabric around her wound, but the pain surged like a tide, making it almost impossible for her to breathe.
Moreover, what's even more terrifying is that the poison had an exceptionally strong aftereffect.
Xu Yuehuai's forehead was covered in cold sweat, her face was as pale as paper, and she was also experiencing a severe headache from time to time, as if there was a time bomb in her head.
But she firmly maintained her composure and did not succumb to the control of that painful force.
Just then, Qi Guze's image suddenly appeared in Xu Yuehuai's mind. She remembered the time they had spent together, the laughter and tears as clear as if they were yesterday.
She didn't know how he was doing, whether he was also in danger. Her heart was filled with worry and longing, but this also gave her a sudden surge of strength. She had to survive, find Qi Guze, and face the challenges of the future together!
However, due to prolonged pressure on her body, Xu Yuehuai suddenly felt dizzy and her body collapsed uncontrollably.
She tried desperately to open her eyes, but her eyelids felt as heavy as a thousand pounds. She had passed out and didn't see the masked man who had silently appeared beside her in the night…
When Xu Yuehuai woke up again, it was already the next morning.
She noticed that her wounds seemed to be less painful. She touched them in surprise and found that the deep, bone-exposing scars had healed considerably. She initially thought it was due to a special constitution, but she soon realized it wasn't that simple.
She then looked around and found that the masked man and his men had not appeared.
She saw no food or water, and felt a wave of despair, not knowing how much longer she could hold on.
"I just hope the rescue can arrive soon," Xu Yuehuai comforted herself.
"Snap!"
Just then, the door was suddenly pushed open.
Xu Yuehuai's heart tightened, and she immediately hid behind the door.
"Da da da!"
A figure walked in, and Xu Yuehuai held her breath, nervously waiting for the other person's move.
The other party didn't seem to have found Xu Yuehuai's whereabouts, and began searching for something around the room.
Xu Yuehuai took the opportunity to observe the other person's back, and she found that the person's back looked a lot like the Ghost Doctor.
So, she mustered her courage and tentatively called out, "Ghost Doctor?"
The other person seemed startled, and he abruptly turned to look at where Xu Yuehuai was hiding. When his gaze met Xu Yuehuai's, both of them froze. The Ghost Doctor's face showed surprise, while Xu Yuehuai stared at him in disbelief.
"Your Highness?" the Ghost Doctor asked in surprise, "You actually hid here."
Xu Yuehuai came out from behind the door. Looking at the Ghost Doctor's familiar face, she said excitedly, "Ghost Doctor! It really is you! What are you doing here?"
The Ghost Doctor gave an awkward smile and explained, "I infiltrated the Four Kingdoms Clan to investigate thoroughly. I thought they would take me to their headquarters, but I didn't expect them to take me to this temple."
Xu Yuehuai leaned against the stone wall, her legs feeling weak.
"With you there, I feel at ease." Xu Yuehuai seemed to be telling herself, and also the ghost doctor in front of her, "I am currently suffering from a deadly poison, and my internal energy is completely depleted. Can you help me think of a way to restore my internal energy?"
The Ghost Doctor smiled. "Don't worry, I'll figure something out. But this isn't a place to stay for long; we need to leave as soon as possible."
Xu Yuehuai knew that the Ghost Doctor was right. The two of them were still too weak and had no way to do anything else under the masked man. They could only make sure that they could get out of there unscathed.
The two began to discuss their escape plan in hushed tones, scrutinizing every detail to ensure that everything went perfectly.
Just then, a rough voice suddenly came from outside: "Are you cured yet?" The voice was full of impatience and contempt.
The Ghost Doctor and Xu Yuehuai exchanged glances, both looking wary.
The Ghost Doctor reacted quickly and addressed the doorway, saying, "This person is seriously injured and malnourished. You should get her some food." His voice was very calm, as if he were genuinely concerned for an ordinary patient.
