When faced with the choice between survival and life, people will always choose to live first. Although Xuan Chi understood why Shi Mu had such thoughts, he could not accept it. After staring at each other for two seconds, he looked away, his face showing some displeasure. For a moment, Shi Mu became the target of everyone's criticism, but he showed no remorse whatsoever.
Nangong Yu chuckled coldly. He had initially thought Shi Mu was just under pressure when she said those things, but now it seemed that wasn't the case. "Let me guess when you started to change. Was it during the competition? You didn't pass the first round, and we all left, so you were resentful, right? Am I right?"
Nangong Yu looked at the person coldly. For a moment, the two were at odds, but no one around could stop this scene. Shi Mu pursed his lips, his emotions in his eyes were very calm and unchanged. He felt that there was nothing wrong with what he was doing. He was just thinking about his future. How could it become a big problem in other people's eyes?
Shi Mu turned her head away, ignoring the person in front of her, and sat quietly in the corner as before.
But Nangong Yu clearly didn't think so. He grabbed Shi Mu by the collar and said, "Speak!"
Shi Mu was pulled up, and he grabbed Nangong Yu's hands that were tugging at his clothes, his face showing displeasure. "Let me go."
Seeing that Shi Mu remained unmoved, Nangong Yu finally had an answer in his heart. He nodded coldly, all his hopes shattered. He gritted his teeth and said with disdain in his eyes, "Do you remember how you got to where you are now? If you haven't forgotten, then do as we say and don't even think about running away. Otherwise, I'll let you know what it truly means to wish you were dead!"
Shi Mu straightened his collar and didn't answer, but his expression clearly indicated his agreement. Nangong Yu didn't press Shi Mu further, but instead looked towards the window. However, Quan Cang was no longer there, so there was nothing to see. Everyone was in a silent atmosphere, each with their own thoughts, and their own little schemes were particularly obvious in this place.
Shi Mu chuckled twice, finding it quite amusing, and said, "It seems we were all wrong. Senior Sister never intended to come and save us; she's already gone."
This time, however, no one paid any attention to his ramblings. They were all anxiously looking outside, wanting to know what was happening.
Their anxiety was written all over their faces; everyone was in a hurry.
Outside, Quan Cang could hear everything being said inside the house. As he listened to their discussion, he looked on with a mixture of amusement and mockery. "It seems no one can escape the fate of being betrayed, Xu Yuehuai, you are one of them."
"Since you discovered us so early, why didn't you show up sooner? Do you think hiding in the shadows is something impressive to you?" Xu Yuehuai appeared from around a corner, speaking coldly without a hint of surprise in her eyes. This scene elicited a moment of mockery from Quan Cang.
"Hey, I didn't. I just overheard your best friends arguing, really arguing, like they're debating whether or not to side with you. What do you think they'll come to? Do you want to know? I can tell you, after all, it's not a big deal, don't you think?"
"I think it would be better to say these things after we actually meet. At least for now, I don't need you to tell me, and you shouldn't get involved."
Xu Yuehuai spoke in a cold tone, clearly indicating that she did not want to talk to this person, but the other party kept pestering her and wouldn't let go.
Quan Cang was somewhat impressed by Xu Yuehuai's idea. He clapped his hands and said, "Junior Sister is still the same as before. She really has a unique personality."
"So, now that you've found me, what are you going to do? Deal with me? Kill me? Or lock me up too, and then go attack other people?" Xu Yuehuai chuckled twice as she spoke, her tone indescribably cold and distant. She didn't seem like someone familiar with Quan Cang at all; instead, she seemed like a stranger. Quan Cang was stunned for a moment, then waved his hand and said, "Why do you think so badly of me? I just want to chat with you. You don't need to be so nervous. Is chatting between us such a difficult or awkward thing?"
Quan Cang said these words with a smile.
In the corner, the rat-man had been hiding in the shadows. After receiving Quan Cang's order, he left, intending to return to his previous house. However, on his way back, he overheard someone saying that Quan Cang had left him behind on his mission simply because he considered him a burden. This decision made him less innocent, and his gaze towards that person now held a hint of inquiry and a desire to seek the truth.
Just as he was about to step forward, the other person spotted him and fled in panic, their eyes filled with anxiety and haste.
Although the speaker meant no harm, the listener was not. He was still thinking about what Quan Cang had done these past few days. Most of the time, he really hadn't taken her with him. Suddenly, the rat-man felt uncomfortable. He moved around a couple of times, feeling uneasy all over. He started walking back, paying attention to the gazes and words of the people around him as he went.
But a few of these words were meaningless, and the rat-man found them uninteresting and continued walking. However, at some point, his thoughts began to wander. When he reached his destination, he was surprised to see himself looking at the rat-man as if he were seeing him for the first time. He was about to leave when he realized that since he had already come all this way, it would be embarrassing if he left without hearing something.
So the rat-man stopped and overheard the conversation. He didn't understand why the person in front of him was so rude to Quan Cang, but she was still alive and doing well, seemingly without any problems. He gripped the wall with one hand, his fingers already digging in.
"I have nothing to say to you. You know perfectly well what I'm here for. Give me the person, and I'll leave now."
