Xu Yuehuai was furious, but she knew that arguing with Consort Wan was pointless, so she took a deep breath and suppressed her anger: "Your Highness is right. I am a commoner, but my husband is the Regent of the Great Zhou Kingdom."
Consort Wan was taken aback, clearly not expecting Xu Yuehuai to respond in this way.
She glared at Xu Yuehuai, her eyes flashing with jealousy and resentment: "Hmph, the Regent of the Great Zhou Kingdom? Don't think I don't know, the Great Zhou Kingdom is about to fall, what regent is there to speak of!"
Xu Yuehuai was shocked to hear this. She knew that Consort Wan was well-informed in the palace, but she never expected that Qi Guze's condition was so critical.
Her heart began to race, filled with worry for Qi Guze's safety.
In the tense atmosphere, the little princess suddenly interjected, "Your Highness, that's not right. The Regent is incredibly brave; he will surely be safe."
Consort Wan was taken aback by the little princess's words, and her expression turned somewhat unpleasant. She hadn't expected the little princess to speak up for Xu Yuehuai.
She glared at the little princess, but didn't retaliate.
Xu Yuehuai looked at the little princess gratefully, knowing that the little princess was only saying that to comfort her.
Although she was worried about Qi Guze's safety, she also knew that she couldn't let these emotions affect the little princess.
Just then, a burst of laughter rang out. It turned out to be a group of concubines from the imperial harem.
Upon seeing this, the little princess's eyes lit up, and she took Xu Yuehuai's hand, saying, "Big sister, let's go take a look over there."
Xu Yuehua nodded in agreement, and the two walked to the other side.
Consort Wan watched their departing figures, her eyes flashing with resentment. She secretly vowed that one day she would make Xu Yuehuai pay the price.
The little princess was completely unaware of the dangerous gaze behind her. She and Xu Yuehuai were enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Imperial Garden, temporarily forgetting their troubles.
Just then, a commotion arose in the distance. Xu Yuehuai and the little princess turned around and saw a group of palace maids and eunuchs rushing towards them. They looked flustered, as if something had happened.
Xu Yuehuai's heart tightened, and an ominous premonition welled up inside her. She gripped the little princess's hand tightly, her eyes filled with worry.
The palace maids and eunuchs came before Xu Yuehuai, and one of the eunuchs knelt down and reported, "Princess, something terrible has happened! Something has happened in the Great Zhou Kingdom!"
Xu Yuehuai's expression changed: "What happened?" The eunuch said hurriedly: "The Regent of the Great Zhou Kingdom has been besieged by enemy troops on the border, and the situation is extremely critical! The news has already spread throughout the palace."
Xu Yuehuai felt a wave of dizziness. She managed to steady herself and asked, "Are you sure this news is true?"
The eunuch nodded firmly: "This servant rushed here to inform the princess as soon as I learned of it. It is absolutely true that the Regent is besieged."
Xu Yuehuai was extremely anxious; Qi Guze's safety was on her mind. She knew Qi Guze's importance to the Great Zhou Kingdom and the heavy responsibilities he bore. Now that he was in danger, she could not stand idly by.
"I'm going to see him," Xu Yuehuai said firmly, her eyes flashing with determination. "No matter what happens, I'm going to save him."
The little princess looked at Xu Yuehuai, her eyes filled with worry: "Big sister..."
Xu Yuehuai gently stroked her hair: "Don't worry, I will come back safely."
After speaking, she turned and walked towards the palace gate. The hidden guards followed closely behind; they all knew what this news meant for Xu Yuehuai. They silently protected her, hoping to do something for her.
On her way away, Xu Yuehuai was filled with mixed emotions. She was worried about Qi Guze's safety and also concerned about her newborn child. She knew she couldn't stay by his side forever, but she hoped that her child would be safe and sound while she was away.
Xu Yuehuai arrived at the palace gate, her eyes fixed on the carriage that was waiting quietly.
Sunlight streamed onto the exquisitely crafted carriage, giving it a soft shimmer. On the carriage shaft, several guards stood ramrod straight, their faces expressionless. Their armor gleamed coldly in the sunlight, yet they couldn't conceal the worry in their eyes.
Xu Yuehuai took a deep breath, her hands clenched into fists, the sweat on her palms dampening the lines. Her heart pounded like a drumbeat, fast and rhythmic, as if keeping time for the unknown journey she was about to embark on.
Her heart was like a lake stirred by the wind, calm on the surface but turbulent within. She stepped onto the carriage, her firm steps seeming to tell the world of her determination.
The car's interior was simply yet elegantly furnished, and the soft cushions felt comfortable, but they couldn't calm her anxiety. She sat down, slightly adjusting her posture to try and relax as much as possible.
"Let's go," she said softly, her voice carrying an unwavering determination.
The carriage slowly started moving, accompanied by the sound of wheels rolling and horses' hooves striking the ground, heading towards the distant battlefield.
Through the gap in the curtains, Xu Yuehuai watched the palace gates gradually recede into the distance, her heart filled with a mixture of tension and reluctance. She closed her eyes, silently praying that Qi Guze would return safely.
That brave and fearless man on the battlefield, that person who held an important place in her heart. Every time he went to war, it tugged at her heartstrings, and every time he returned safely, it filled her with immense joy.
Xu Yuehuai was well aware of the dangers and uncertainties of the battlefield, but she also knew Qi Guze's capabilities. She believed he could overcome all difficulties and return safely to her side.
The carriage bumped along the road, and Xu Yuehuai's heart rose and fell with it. She looked out every now and then, her eyes filled with anxiety and anticipation.
Xu Yuehuai's heart pounded in her chest like a war drum. She hoped to get to the battlefield as soon as possible to share some of the pressure with Qi Guze.
After several days of travel, the carriage finally arrived at the battlefield. Xu Yuehuai got off the carriage and looked around. The battlefield was filled with the heavy smell of gunpowder, and the air was filled with a grim atmosphere.
The shouts of soldiers, the neighing of warhorses, and the clanging of swords mingled together, forming a tragic war song. Her heart was filled with worry and unease.
She knew that this war was crucial for Qi Guze and the entire country, but she also knew the cruelty and ruthlessness of war.
She couldn't help but recall Qi Guze's tired yet determined gaze when he left the capital; the pressure and sense of responsibility revealed in that gaze made her heart ache.
She gripped the sword tightly, silently praying, "Qi Guze, you must hold on. I will definitely share some of the burden for you."
Xu Yuehuai took a deep breath and stepped onto the battlefield. Although her steps trembled slightly, her eyes were filled with determination and courage.
