Chapter 1877 Dangerous Territory

No one else stopped him, assuming the food was safe. Baili Xiuwen, who witnessed everything, didn't show any intention to stop them after the man ate the food. He coldly observed what was happening, while the people below remained oblivious to the danger, their faces showing ignorance.

Baili Xiuwen was biased towards Shui Xia. Shui Xia was Qi Guze's subordinate, and Qi Guze, as Xu Yuehuai's Daoist partner, had no reason to harm them. If he did harm them and Xu Yuehuai found out, given her personality, she would not let Qi Guze off easily.

Baili Xiuwen knew Xu Yuehuai's personality well. They had known each other for a longer time. Although he hadn't spoken to Xu Yuehuai much, he always followed Fu Ziyi to get to know her. He knew that she was righteous and wouldn't abandon her principles and original beliefs for love. All of this could only mean one thing: Shui Xia was probably fine.

Baili Xiuwen returned to the room and sat on the couch. There was still one question he hadn't figured out: why did Qi Guze leave Shui Xia behind? Logically speaking, there wasn't much danger here, and they could handle most of it themselves. If that was the case, then there was little, if not no, significance in leaving Shui Xia behind.

Shui Xia's ability to stay must be due to Qi Guze's trust. Someone who can be trusted by Qi Guze like this is definitely not an ordinary person, and is someone who can protect them beyond their capabilities. In that case, Shui Xia's strength is far above theirs.

This puzzled Baili Xiuwen even more. If that were really the case, the area behind the mountain was so dangerous, Qi Guze should have taken Shui Xia with him. That would have been the safest thing to do.

But why did they keep Shui Xia behind?

Baili Xiuwen walked to the window and looked at the scene below. He felt that there was something he hadn't figured out yet, and that this unfigured thing held a crucial position in the matter.

He was completely baffled and kept staring out the window in the same position. Outside, all the buildings were ruins, with everything collapsed on the ground. It was impossible to tell what the place used to look like. However, based on the fallen objects, one could tell that the place had once been very prosperous.

The buildings and similar structures were constructed with great care.

He wanted to connect everything in his mind. From Baili Xiuwen's perspective, this matter was somewhat strange. First, a series of inexplicable questions arose one after another. Then, they learned that there was danger in the back mountain. However, the only place they knew about was the back mountain, so Xu Yuehuai and Fu Ziyi went up the back mountain.

As they expected, yet were reluctant to admit, there was indeed a problem with the back mountain. They couldn't go up now; rushing up would only be suicide. In their anxiety and panic, they sought help from the original inhabitants, the demon race. The demons agreed to help them go up the mountain. Then, while they were in a state of utter confusion, Qi Guze appeared. He said he was going to find Xu Yuehuai and that he was going up the mountain.

Before heading up the mountain, he left behind his trusted lieutenant to protect their safety. This lieutenant soon revealed something that shocked them all, but one had to admit that the truth had a degree of validity.

Putting everything together, Baili Xiuwen found no suspicious points. The information he got from Cheng Chi was limited, and he always felt that Cheng Chi was hiding something from them.

But he couldn't force others to talk about it, so he could only remain silent.

Suddenly, his eyes flashed, and he realized something. He darted to the rooftop and accurately located Shui Xia's position. Shui Xia was a little surprised to see him suddenly appear beside her, and looked at the newcomer with a puzzled look, "You... how did you find me?"

"Was this conspiracy orchestrated by someone on your floor?" Baili Xiuwen didn't answer those irrelevant questions, but went straight to the point, wanting to get the information that had been puzzling him from Shui Xia.

Shui Xia was surprised when he heard the question. He hadn't expected anyone here to be able to figure out the cause and effect. This surprised him. "That's right, how did you know?"

"Because Brother Qi isn't from here, if he was able to get the news and come here, it means there must be a problem in his area. And our strength isn't weak. The fact that he asked you to stay and protect us means that your strength is above ours. But I see that you're about the same age as us. Only someone who has received better treatment since childhood would be like this. If you were from the second level, you definitely wouldn't be in such a state of obscurity now."

"Furthermore, Brother Qi was clearly surprised when he saw us. He didn't know we were here, which means he couldn't have come after learning that Xu Yuehuai was in danger. He could only have come here after something went wrong, found us here, and knew that Xu Yuehuai must be with us. That's why he asked about her whereabouts. When he learned that Xu Yuehuai was related to the matter he needed to solve, Brother Qi was obviously very flustered."

When Baili Xiuwen clearly explained everything, it was Shui Xia's turn to be surprised. He looked the boy in front of him up and down, and he was completely different from the dull guy from before. "That's right, you're right about everything."

Shui Xia didn't hide it. People had already guessed it, and there was no point in hiding it now. It was better to just admit it openly.

Baili Xiuwen continued, "So, is something big going to happen?"

"Boom!"

As he asked this question, a loud bang illuminated half the sky.

From the very beginning until now, the lightning has never stopped. After a short while, it started flashing and thundering again, which is quite terrifying.

Baili Xiuwen was also startled by the commotion, and his body trembled slightly.

This tremor, however, brought him and Shui Xia closer. "See that? This is it. If I'm not mistaken, the lightning was caused by the back mountain. His Majesty should be inside right now. Cangwu City is about to change..."

Shui Xia was deeply moved. He had only been here a short time and hadn't had much time to appreciate the beautiful scenery before this place was about to experience a major battle. It was truly a pity.

If a major battle had taken place, it's impossible to know what would have become of the surrounding area, but it certainly wouldn't have been for the best. The ruins serve as a good example of this; they are the former.
