Chapter 1099 Strange Powder

Are you all alright?

She turned and walked toward the injured palace maids and eunuchs, and began to examine their injuries.

Fortunately, although Bai Yu lost his mind, his attack did not cause too much damage; most people only suffered minor injuries. Unfortunately, a few people bled to death.

Xu Yuehuai took out some medicine from her bosom and began to treat them. Her movements were gentle and skillful, and she quickly relieved the pain of the injured people.

"Thank you, Lady Shen!"

"Thanks to you for saving us today, otherwise, we might not be here anymore."

"Lady Shen, you are truly our great benefactor!"

The palace maids and eunuchs hurriedly thanked Xu Yuehuai, but she shook her head.

"No need to be so polite, you should go back and recover."

As dawn approached, Xu Yuehuai, after a busy day, was finally able to return to her quiet and solemn palace.

The palace lights flickered in the night, but could not dispel the fog in her heart.

Bai Yu's recent crazy behavior weighed on her heart like a boulder, making it impossible for her to let go.

How did he suddenly lose his mind?

What can be predicted each time he has an attack?

Is it true that if he has another attack next time, it will be more serious than this time?

She sat at an exquisite jade table, on which were placed several heavy books and a delicate candlestick.

In the flickering candlelight, her face appeared even more solemn. She closed her eyes, the scene replaying in her mind, trying to find a clue.

"Knock knock knock!"

Just then, a soft knock on the door broke the silence of the palace.

Xu Yuehuai suddenly opened her eyes, a hint of alertness flashing within them. She stood up, slowly walked to the door, and softly asked, "Who is it?"

"It's me, the bodyguard." A deep and familiar voice came from outside the door. Xu Yuehuai opened the door and saw the bodyguard standing outside. His face was even more gloomy than usual, and his eyes seemed to hide deep doubt and anger.

"Lady Shen, I have something to ask you." The guard's voice was deep and powerful, as if every word was full of strength.

Xu Yuehuai's heart tightened, but she remained calm on the surface. She gestured for the guards to enter the palace, then closed the door and turned to face him. The atmosphere inside the palace immediately became tense.

"What do you want to ask?" Xu Yuehuai asked calmly. Although her voice was calm, her heart was churning with turmoil.

The guard stared into Xu Yuehuai's eyes, as if trying to see through her heart. He asked in a deep voice, "Why did His Majesty suddenly have a breakdown? You were there at the time, did you know anything?"

Xu Yuehua frowned slightly, shook her head and said, "I don't know the reason! The king happened to be outside my palace at the time. After hearing the palace maids' cries for help, I rushed over. I found that the king had lost his mind, so I subdued him."

The guard was clearly not satisfied with this answer, and he continued to press, "Have you seen anyone approach the King? Or have you noticed anything unusual?"

Xu Yuehuai closed her eyes, trying hard to recall the scene. The terrifying image of Bai Yu going mad, and the panicked palace maids and eunuchs, flashed through her mind.

She carefully searched every detail in her memory, then shook her head and said, "No."

"The situation was very chaotic at the time. I was only focused on saving people and didn't notice any other details."

The guard's expression darkened further; he seemed dissatisfied with Xu Yuehuai's answer. However, he didn't press further, merely giving Xu Yuehuai a cold look before turning and leaving.

Xu Yuehuai watched the guards' departing figures, a chill creeping into her heart. She knew this matter was not so simple. She had to find out the truth as soon as possible, or she might be drawn into it herself.

Over the next few days, Xu Yuehuai began to secretly investigate Bai Yu's madness. She visited the injured palace maids and eunuchs, carefully questioning them about what they had seen and heard at the time.

However, the palace maids and eunuchs, like her, did not know the full picture of the matter.

Left with no other option, she personally inspected Bai Yu's palace, hoping to find some clues. She acted with extreme caution, afraid of alerting him.

During the investigation, Xu Yuehuai discovered something strange. She found a tightly closed window in Bai Yu's palace, and there seemed to be some strange marks left on the window.

"Your Majesty's condition has indeed worsened this time, it seems..."

She also overheard some whispers among the palace maids, who seemed to be hiding something about Bai Yu's madness.

Xu Yuehuai's doubts deepened, and she decided to investigate the matter further. She knew that only by finding the truth could she resolve her doubts and protect herself and those around her from harm.

Xu Yuehuai paced back and forth in the palace corridor, her gaze sharp as an eagle, scanning every passing face, trying to catch a glimpse of any unusual fluctuation in their eyes.

She asked each person in a soft voice if they had seen anything unusual that day, but each response was as calm and indifferent as a cold lake, and no one could provide any valuable clues.

Xu Yuehuai felt as if she had been struck by a heavy hammer, but she knew that giving up was not her style.

She decided to venture once again into the palace where Bai Yu fell ill, to uncover the secret hidden deep within!

As night fell, Xu Yuehuai changed into a tight-fitting black outfit and, like an agile black cat, silently sneaked into the palace.

She skillfully evaded the patrolling guards, like a ghost moving through the darkness, and arrived at the mysterious courtyard.

The courtyard was quiet, as if time had stood still. Xu Yuehuai walked cautiously, her eyes sharp as a hawk's, not missing a single corner.

Suddenly, her gaze was drawn to a brightly colored plant, its color exceptionally vibrant, creating a striking contrast with the other plants.

Xu Yuehuai approached the plant and noticed some powder residue on its leaves. She crouched down and gently touched the powder with her fingertips; the texture of the powder stirred something within her.

"This—cough cough cough!"

She leaned closer and took a sniff; a strange odor wafted up, causing her to frown.

A strong intuition surged within Xu Yuehuai: this powder might be related to Bai Yu's illness. She carefully collected some powder and then left the courtyard as quietly as she had arrived.

Upon returning to the palace, Xu Yuehuai immediately began studying the powder. She discovered that the powder contained an ingredient she had never seen before, which seemed similar to the ingredient extracted from the previous medicinal soak.

Perhaps there is some hidden connection between the two?
