Chapter 1423 Life is as worthless as grass

The three met and went to a secluded spot, where they exchanged information and discoveries. Xu Yuehuai told them about his experience of infiltrating the fake Ghost Doctor's cave.

"Thanks to your quick thinking, otherwise we definitely wouldn't have been able to escape unscathed." Qi Guze pinched Xu Yuehuai's cheek.

"What about you? Didn't you find anything? Why are you back so late?" Xu Yuehuai asked.

Pei Hai replied, "We encountered that group of wizards, and after following them, we found that they had entered a secret chamber. We tried everything we could, but we couldn't open the chamber. We stood guard outside, but they didn't make a sound, so we noted the location down and then returned."

"I see. It's good that no danger occurred," Xu Yuehuai said.

Although this operation did not yield any valuable clues, at least they successfully explored the area, and they will surely find the key if they continue their search in the future.

The next day, a puppet suddenly collapsed and fell unconscious, causing an uproar among the surrounding people.

Xu Yuehuai quickly stepped forward and lightly touched the puppet's pulse with his fingertips. "It's due to exhaustion, nothing serious."

Just as Xu Yuehuai was about to treat the puppet, a figure silently approached.

"Take him away and bury him." The fake ghost doctor stared intently at Xu Yuehuai, his voice cold and resolute as he spoke.

Xu Yuehuai felt a chill run down her spine, but her face remained calm as she simply nodded slightly, signaling her subordinates to do as she was told.

As the fake doctor turned to leave, her eyes instantly became firm and profound.

As night fell, the mine was pitch black, with only a few scattered lights flickering in the distance.

Xu Yuehua gently woke Pei Hai and whispered, "Pei Hai, you are in charge of guarding the area. Make sure the surroundings are safe."

Upon hearing this, Pei Hai's expression turned solemn, and he nodded: "Your Highness, Your Highness, please be careful."

Afterwards, Xu Yuehuai and Qi Guze quickly changed into night clothes and, under the cover of darkness, quietly returned to the place where the puppet had been buried during the day.

The two worked together to dig through the soil and rescue the unconscious puppet.

Xu Yuehuai took a deep breath, mobilized the rare and precious power within her body, and slowly injected it into the puppet's body. The puppet's face gradually regained its color, and it slowly opened its eyes.

“Remember, after you leave here, don’t tell anyone you’ve seen us, and don’t mention what happened here to anyone,” Xu Yuehuai warned.

The puppet nodded gratefully and was secretly guided by Xu Yuehuai to the mine exit, where it disappeared into the night.

Back at the camp, Xu Yuehuai and Qi Guze had barely lain down when Pei Hai whispered, "Your Highness, it seems a member of another race witnessed our rescue. Should I eliminate him?"

Xu Yuehuai was about to speak when Qi Guze spoke first: "No need to panic. If we make a move now, we'll only alert the enemy."

Although Pei Hai was unwilling, he had no choice but to give up.

However, the next morning, a superior alien led a group of people and stormed in aggressively.

"Stop!" His voice boomed like thunder, sending a shiver down everyone's spine.

Xu Yuehuai calmly stood up, waved to signal the puppets to stop what they were doing, and slowly walked towards the superior alien.

"What's wrong? What brings you here?" Her tone was calm and confident, as if she had everything under control.

The superior alien's cold laughter, like a sharp blade in the cold wind, pierced the stillness of the air. He slowly waved his hand, and several burly subordinates responded, carrying a cold corpse heavily to the center of the group, an ominous aura filling the air.

"You still ask what happened? Look, someone died on your territory!" The alien leader's eyes were filled with provocation and threat, as if a storm was about to break.

A barely perceptible look of surprise flashed across Xu Yuehuai's face. She quickly stepped forward and examined the corpse with feigned shock. Her fingers gently traced the deceased's tightly closed eyes, her brows furrowed, but her mind was as clear as a mirror.

“This…how is this possible?” she murmured, her voice filled with disbelief. “We held the camp the entire night without venturing out. Who could have done this sudden tragedy? Please believe us, we will do everything in our power to cooperate with the investigation, but before that, please give us some time to find out the truth, so that innocent people will not be wronged.”

Upon hearing this, the alien leader's lips curled into a cold smile, clearly skeptical of Xu Yuehuai's words. He glanced around, then finally let out a cold snort, leaving behind the words: "You'd better watch yourselves, or I'll find out you were behind this."

After saying that, he turned and left, his back view aloof and cold.

Xu Yuehuai watched the receding figure, a complex expression flashing in her eyes. She knew that this undercurrent of competition had already involved everyone's lives.

That night, in complete darkness, Xu Yuehuai, Qi Guze, and Pei Hai discussed the day's events in hushed tones inside the tent.

Qi Guze said in a deep voice, "These alien races treat us like dirt. They don't care about the lives of ordinary people at all. They only care about their own people."

Pei Hai said, "We can't just sit here and wait to die. We have to find evidence to prove everyone's innocence."

Just then, a faint sound rang out. Xu Yuehuai quickly made a gesture, and the three of them remained still, pretending to be asleep.

In the darkness, a figure silently approached, seemingly searching for something. However, just as the figure was about to leave, a series of rapid breaths broke the silence of the night, followed by the sound of a heavy object falling to the ground.

The following morning, Xu Yuehuai discovered the corpse of a puppet, with a horrifying wound on its neck, the blood already dried. Suppressing her grief, she hurried towards the residence of the alien ruler, determined to seek justice for her fallen brother.

"Sir, someone attempted to assassinate one of my men last night." Xu Yuehuai could not hide his anger and helplessness.

However, the response from the alien administrator was like a bucket of cold water, extinguishing all her hopes: "If they're dead, they're dead. Just bury them. Here, we don't need to care about the lives of those beasts."

Xu Yuehuai was stunned. She had never imagined that these alien races could be so cold and ruthless. She tried to calm the turmoil in her heart, did not refute, and turned to leave.

Back at the camp, she examined the puppet's body again. This time, she made a startling discovery—the expression on the dead man's face was unusually calm, even with a hint of relief, as if he had not died from murder, but rather... suicide?

"Could it be..." A bold guess surged in Xu Yuehuai's mind, "The people who came last night gave the deceased some kind of drug or curse, causing him to voluntarily end his own life?"

The thought sent chills down her spine, and it also made her realize that there might be a third party stirring things up in this underground mine.

No matter who they are, Xu Yuehuai will absolutely not allow them to kill innocent people indiscriminately like this!

As night fell, Xu Yuehuai reappeared outside the deep and unfathomable cave. She pressed herself against the stone wall, keeping a close eye on every servant who came in and out, plotting how to approach the fake ghost doctor discreetly.
