Chapter Seventy-Nine: Earnest Admonitions

“The master ate the snake-bed medicine,” a servant laughed, “so naturally he’ll make a grand comeback to regain his former glory.”

"Hahaha."

They both laughed.

Zhou Wan was inexplicably put into a carriage and then inexplicably taken out of it. As soon as she stepped out of the alley, she saw a familiar figure in the distance and hurriedly got off the carriage.

Surprise and joy mingled in her eyes, making her happy and leaving her speechless.

I never expected to run into Xu Yuehuai here.

"Mother, why did you come out?"

“Who is your mother? Dealing with this fat man is a piece of cake for her. But you, I always urge you to practice martial arts, but you all ignore me. Now you're at a loss for words over a small matter. From now on, you should practice martial arts as much as they do. Then no one will dare to do anything to you.”

Xu Yuehuai was fond of teaching others.

Having narrowly escaped death, Zhou Wan truly understood the importance of martial arts.

Xu Yuehuai was a master of scaling walls and leaping across rooftops, appearing and disappearing unpredictably. So much so that the servants didn't even see where she went. Zhou Wan was scolded and criticized, and felt extremely guilty. "Mother, it's my fault."

Xu Yuehuai stared at her.

"Don't always look for the reasons within yourself. What does this have to do with you? Just be more careful to protect yourself from now on."

"I..." Zhou Wan nodded hesitantly, and said timidly, "I understand."

"go home."

Xu Yuehuai threw the money pouch into the air.

On the way, Zhou Wan looked at her, still feeling uneasy, "That Uncle Zhou isn't easy to talk to, can he just swallow his anger?"

"He's going to have to swallow this bitter pill; who else can he complain to?" Xu Yuehuai had anticipated this.

Upon arriving at the inn, Jiang Shichen saw that Xu Yuehuai had brought his mother back and immediately jumped up.

"Mother is back?" Zhou Wan and Jiang Shichen hugged each other and cried.

Seeing the family reunited, Xu Yuehuai was in a great mood. "Tell the waiter to prepare some food."

Zhou Wan looked at Jiang Shichen and said, "Quickly thank Grandma, otherwise I would never have been able to return home safely." She gazed at Xu Yuehuai with tears in her eyes. Jiang Shichen had never liked Xu Yuehuai. Although he knew that she was the one who saved his mother, he ignored her.

Xu Yuehuai, on the other hand, hadn't originally planned to accept their thanks.

She repeated her usual refrain, "No matter what, practice martial arts diligently. If you have a skill, you might not suffer in the future if you fall on hard times. Also..." Xu Yuehuai pointed at Zhou Wan, "Are you planning to starve to death because you refuse to eat Zhou's grain? No matter what, the food hasn't offended you. How can you go against the fat man if you don't eat and drink your fill?"

"Yes, yes, Mother is right."

Xu Yuehuai looked around.

Laughter and cheerful voices could be faintly heard coming from the next room.

"Why does it look so festive over there?"

Xu Yuehuai's heart suddenly jumped, because she discovered that Jiang Qianqian, who was always by her side, had completely disappeared today. This discovery shocked her greatly.

"Where's Jiang Qianqian? Qianqian?"

"I don't know," Jiang Shichen said. "My mother has been missing for the past two days. We've been so busy and chaotic that I haven't seen her since."

In fact, Jiang Shichen seemed to have a vague understanding of something, but dared not say it.

Xu Yuehuai, however, thought of Liu Cuiming, the dog who had fallen into the water.

"I'll go take a look."

Knock on the door.

Jiang Mingfu knew it was Xu Yuehuai and was about to open the door, but Zhou Qionghua gave him a look, which startled Jiang Mingfu, and he retreated without a word.

Who is it?

"Who did you say it was?" Xu Yuehuai's voice was cold and sharp, clearly indicating that she was in a bad mood.

“We’re going to sleep,” Zhou Qionghua blurted out in the utter silence. Xu Yuehuai, who had been trying to be polite before resorting to force, kicked the door open with a bang. Jiang Mingfu was stunned, and Zhou Qionghua was at a loss for what to do.

She looked around the room but did not see Jiang Qianqian.

Where are they?

It was clear that she was furious.

"Who goes there?" It was Zhou Qionghua who spoke.

Xu Yuehua sneered, "Stop pretending to be a pig with scallions stuck in your nose. Where are you?"

“I haven’t seen her. She’s not with you every day. Now,” Zhou Qionghua started to turn the tables, “she’s disappeared, and you’re calling me for help? How would I know where she is? I haven’t even asked you for her yet.”

"Let me find out something."

Hopefully, Jiang Qianqian's disappearance has nothing to do with her.

I'm destined not to get a good rest tonight.

Xu Yuehuai had been running around for two days on Zhou Wan's matter and was exhausted, but he was still preparing to go out.

Seeing Zhou Wan come downstairs, Jiang Shichen, Aqi, Zhou Wan, and others all wanted to follow. Seeing that everyone was so eager to go, Xu Yuehuai smiled contentedly, "Then be careful and fight your own battles."

Just as they were about to part ways, they saw a military commander in the distance insulting an old man.

The old woman was hunched over and looked quite disheveled.

"You're a disgrace! Why did you steal other people's food? You old beggar!"

“My family used to be incredibly wealthy,” the person who was finally criticized retorted, “but haven’t we fallen on hard times now? I’m looking for food, I’m starving, so why don’t you give me a bite to eat, please have mercy on me.”

The soldier looked at him with disgust and gestured for him to keep his distance.

But the wicked woman didn't care about anything else and continued to get closer and closer.

This enraged the soldiers.

The two remained locked in a stalemate.

The wicked woman saw Xu Yuehuai and immediately beamed with joy, "A-Yue, is that you?"

"Auntie?" Xu Yuehuai saw the hazy, indistinct figure from afar. The silhouette must be Liu Cuiming. Sure enough, before she could even speak, the person had already started shouting.

Xu Yuehuai could no longer pretend not to know him.

The soldier brought Liu Cuiming closer, verbally criticized Xu Yuehuai, and gave Liu Cuiming a verbal warning. After the soldier left, Xu Yuehuai stared coldly at him and said, "Auntie, you've really got some nerve now, you've even started stealing food."

"I'm at my wit's end, I'm so hungry my stomach is practically touching my back."

Xu Yuehuai was about to show great mercy.

But before hosting a dinner party, it's essential to understand the whole story.

A quarter of an hour later, Xu Yuehuai, disguised as a man, arrived outside Tianxiang Tower.

Inside Tianxiang Tower, in a dark room on the second floor, a man was waving a horsewhip, which landed on the pillow next to him.

The pillow was instantly torn open, and snowflake-like cotton floss flew out.

The burly man sneered, speaking slowly and deliberately, as if mocking someone. He put one foot on a stool, looking fierce and menacing. "I've seen a young lady like you almost every week in my years in this business, but what can they do? They'll still be obedient in the future. You'd better learn what it means to be adaptable, who to serve, and how to serve them. You should learn that."

Inside the house.

The girl huddled in the corner seemed not to hear, staring blankly at the wall.

On that wall, there was an ant struggling to move forward.
