Chapter 2024 This is my mission

"What do you mean by that? We've just encountered a little difficulty, and you're already going to abandon me and play the hero by yourself? Let me tell you, that's impossible. I'm not leaving. Don't even think about it. I'm staying by your side so we can look after each other." As Yan Zhi looked at Xu Yuehuai, her hands were constantly calculating. In fact, she had started calculating as soon as they went up the mountain, and she only stopped when the heavy snow began to fall, using all her spiritual power to protect herself.

Xu Yuehuai was well aware that there were two reasons why Yan Zhi had been calculating but hadn't given an answer: their situation was likely dire, and she simply hadn't been able to figure it out. But looking at her like this, Xu Yuehuai felt that she couldn't possibly have failed to figure it out. Yan Zhi must have known something, which was why she kept insisting on coming up with her.

Xu Yuehuai shook her head and said, "This matter is not as simple as you think. I know what you want to do, but now is not the time. Listen to me, go down the mountain first, okay?"

“Impossible. Since you know that, you know even better that I will not abandon you. This is our friendship, and it is also my mission.” Yan Zhi stared intently into Xu Yuehuai’s eyes.

The word "mission" truly burned in Xu Yuehuai's heart. She choked up and became confused for a moment, but Yan Zhi didn't think there was anything wrong with it. She chuckled twice, "When I came here, my master told me to stay by your side. I can't leave. If I leave, it would be disobeying my master's orders. Do you want me to disobey my master's words?"

Although Xu Yuehuai did not know who Yan Zhi's master was, she was very clear that her master was no ordinary person.

Xu Yuehuai remained silent, her anxiety, confusion, and worry solidifying into something tangible. After a two-second pause, she simply said, "Better safe than sorry."

When Xu Yuehuai agreed to come along, Yan Zhi's eyes were filled with indescribable joy, like a child. She followed behind Xu Yuehuai, searching together on the mountain, wandering around each place according to what those people had said.

Along the way, they encountered many patrolmen. Xu Yuehuai looked ahead, while Yan Zhi was constantly calculating. This time, the divination was about their location. This was one of Yan Zhi's specialties, and she had never failed at it.

Xu Yuehuai glanced at her twice and followed ahead. To say that this road was dangerous was an oversimplification. "This place is too remote. What exactly does Quan Cang want to do? Locking people up in this remote place and not letting anyone guard it, isn't this just blatantly inviting a prison break?"

"No matter what, it's best to be cautious. There's something strange about this place, and I'm worried that something unexpected might happen. Be extremely careful and leave immediately if you notice anything amiss." Although Xu Yuehuai didn't know Quan Cang's methods, she had dealt with people so many times that she was quite skilled.

On the other side, the rat-man stayed by Quan Cang's side, fanning him while Quan Cang closed his eyes and pretended to sleep.

Everyone else watching thought the rat-man must have gone mad. They were on a snowy mountain; why would they need to fan themselves to cool down? But what was even more puzzling was that Quan Cang didn't say a word and just let him do it.

"What on earth is going on? Has things gotten this crazy on the mountain? I should have stayed down there quietly. They didn't even seem to be planning to attack from below. Why did I have to come up here and work like a slave, only to be exhausted to death?"

"What you're saying makes no sense. You were the one who wanted to come up here in the first place, and now you're the one who's making a fuss about leaving. I just don't understand what you people really want."

"I have to say, you old man, you're really something. All we want is peace and a place to live. We came here because if they start fighting, we little soldiers and crab generals don't have to fight. We can just stay quietly in the back. What else could we be after?"

The person next to him rolled their eyes as they spoke.

“Someone’s here.” Quan Cang’s lips moved, and the corners of his mouth turned up. The person he had been waiting for so long had finally arrived.

The rat-man lowered his head and said with a smile, "Should I go and take care of those people now, so as not to disturb your peace, Master?"

"No need. We haven't done anything for so long. They've come, aren't they just giving me trouble? All guests are guests. This guest has just arrived. There's no reason to turn them away. Let's go see and bring the guest in." Quan Cang finally opened his eyes. After he got up and left, the people who were discussing whether to leave at his door died the next second.

The old man was startled. He went to check on Quan Cang's location immediately after the person died, and sure enough, the person was gone. Quan Cang was the one who did it.

The old man patted his chest, a hint of smugness and glee on his face, and said, "I told you this place is great, but you wouldn't believe me. Now look what happened, you don't even have the chance to believe it anymore. Young people, you're still too young and impetuous, saying such arrogant things."

The old man walked out while talking, his hands behind his back, looking very mature, but if you looked closely, you could see that his hands behind his back were trembling.

A glint of cunning appeared in the rat-man's eyes. He rubbed his hands together and asked with a hint of amusement, "Master, can I have some fun with these people this time? Don't worry, I'll make sure they know who's the boss of this world! I definitely won't let you down!"

The rat-man had a fawning smile in his eyes, trying to gain Quan Cang's favor in this way, but Quan Cang simply stopped and looked at him seriously, then said, "Alright, you don't need to come with me. Stay here, I can go by myself."

The rat-man stood frozen in place. He had only said one sentence, yet Quan Cang had abandoned him. He stood there watching Quan Cang's retreating figure, a sinister expression in his eyes.

When Quan Cang arrived at the place where he had imprisoned them, he didn't rush down to run into Xu Yuehuai. Instead, he sat on a rooftop, hiding in the shadows, watching the scene below, trying to figure out when Xu Yuehuai would come looking for him.
