With sincerity in his eyes, Qi Guze defended himself, explaining the situation he faced back then, and how many constraints he had to overcome to reach Xu Yuehuai's side after her death.
After he finished speaking, tears streamed down Xu Yuehuai's face as she looked at him with a pitiful expression, "I thought you didn't love me anymore..."
Qi Guze felt a pang in his heart as he looked at her crying, as if ants were gnawing at his heart. He raised his hand, his palm rough and calloused, and gently and tenderly wiped away her tears, afraid that he might hurt her if he touched her too hard.
Qi Guze couldn't imagine what Xu Yuehuai had gone through to make that choice. Perhaps he had played a part in it. He opened his mouth, wanting to ask the question, but he was worried that it might be the same as he imagined. He was very scared.
