Upon hearing this, all of Pu Tianyi's emotions vanished. Looking at the ring in front of him, he reached out and took it in his hand with a slight tremor. He glanced at what his sister had left for him. The contents of the two rings were different, but he could clearly distinguish which one was his. Both rings contained things he liked.
For a moment, the man's eyes reddened, and he looked at Xu Yuehuai gratefully, "Thank you for coming all this way to bring this."
"It was my mistake. If I hadn't fainted, this thing would have been in your hands long ago." Xu Yuehuai believed that what she said was true.
Pu Tianyi didn't respond. There was no point in arguing about this. He looked at the horizon, where a hint of yellow was appearing. The sun was about to set. "Go sit in the manor. It's getting late. Rest for the night and go back tomorrow. It won't take long. You've come all this way, so you can visit your old friends at Qingcheng Academy."
Xu Yuehuai opened her mouth, but when she met Pu Tianyi's eyes, she couldn't bring herself to say the words of refusal. In the end, all she could utter was, "Okay."
The two walked down the street, one after the other, and in just a few steps, they arrived at the Pu residence from the direction of the dining table.
The gate was closed, and Pu Tianyi pushed it open, saying, "Recently, Grandpa's health hasn't been very good, so he doesn't see any guests. To avoid those people coming and bothering him, he closed the gate, also to keep those people outside from gossiping."
Xu Yuehuai paused as she entered the house. She knew without being told what those people would gossip about. With a not-so-pleasant smile on her face, she walked into the house. There were far fewer things in the mansion than when she last visited. The flowers and plants were neglected and had withered or died.
The room looked lifeless, and Xu Yuehuai felt a mix of emotions as she looked at the scene.
“Don’t mind it. Ever since my little sister left, Grandpa doesn’t like having outsiders in the mansion. He gave all the servants a holiday so they could go home and rest for a while. That’s why these things have been neglected and look a bit messy,” Pu Tianyi explained.
A voice came from inside the house; it was Pu Tianyi's, "Tianyi, where have you been? You've been gone for so long. Did you buy the things I asked you to buy?"
Pu Erge was busy in the kitchen when he noticed that Pu Tianyi hadn't returned yet. When he came out to look for him, he heard Pu Tianyi's voice, "Who are you talking to?"
He walked over slowly, and when he saw Xu Yuehuai, his expression froze for a moment. Xu Yuehuai was at a loss, not knowing what to say or whether she should continue to call him "Second Brother." This was Ji Yuanchi's brother, not hers. Ji Yuanchi had died because of her, and it was somewhat inappropriate for her to still call him "Brother."
After a brief pause, Brother Pu continued, "Isn't this Yueyue? Why did you come all this way? You don't even greet your brother. It seems we've grown apart after so long."
After realizing what had happened, Pu Erge said something that eased the awkward atmosphere and also told Xu Yuehuai that no matter what decision Ji Yuanchi made, they would support him.
Pu Erge was talking more than before, probably because everyone was in a bad mood after his younger sister left. As the second brother, he was the most important person in the family besides his grandfather, so he had a lot more things to do.
The other brothers haven't returned yet. They've sent out the message, but they don't know where it will reach or whether it will even get to the person in question. All of this is unknown.
"Come in quickly, dinner will be served soon, you can try your second brother's cooking." Second Brother Pu smiled at Xu Yuehuai.
“Okay, Second Brother,” Xu Yuehuai replied.
Pu Tianyi led her to the courtyard and said, "You should be pretty familiar with this mansion. You've been here before. Grandpa lives in that room. If you want to talk to him, go ahead. I'm going to check on my second brother's cooking, in case he blows up the kitchen and we don't have dinner tonight."
Xu Yuehuai nodded, and Pu Tianyi turned and left.
Finally, she was left alone in the middle of the huge courtyard. She looked around and, as Pu Tianyi had told her, walked to the door of Old Master Pu's house. She stood at the door and hesitated to knock.
Just as she was about to leave, the door opened from the inside, and the old man's expression froze for a moment when he saw Xu Yuehuai.
Xu Yuehuai was no exception; she never expected Old Master Pu to suddenly appear and was completely unprepared.
"Grandpa." Now that we've met, it's always a necessary step to greet him.
Grandpa Pu responded with a couple of "eh"s, his reaction was slow, but it was clear that he wasn't angry. Xu Yuehuai was relieved. "You've come back to see Chichi, haven't you?"
"When Xiao Chi left, you weren't here. They said you were seriously injured and fainted. Are you alright now?" Grandpa Pu walked up to Xu Yuehuai, his rough hands grasping her arms as he carefully examined the thin-armed and slender girl.
Xu Yuehuai shook her head and said, "Grandpa, I'm all better now. I missed her funeral."
"What do you mean she can't have a funeral? That girl was naturally quiet and didn't like talking to people much. Funerals are too noisy. I thought that since she's dead, let her have some peace and quiet. So we just hung up a white linden banner and didn't do anything else," said Grandpa Pu.
Xu Yuehuai took something out of her pocket, round like an egg. "Grandpa, this is what Achi asked me to give you. I hope you're not angry that I'm so late."
After Ji Yuanchi gave them her gifts, she thought of a certain old man. She smiled, took out an egg from somewhere, and said to Xu Yuehuai, "Yueyue, if you ever have the chance to go back to the third floor, could you give this egg to Grandpa for me? Let him hatch it. The little guy inside will keep him company. If that old man knew about my death, he would be heartbroken. I don't want to see that happen. With this egg, maybe he won't want to die so much."
Ji Yuanchi didn't know if Xu Yuehuai could do it; she only thought about giving away everything she had.
Grandpa Pu looked at the egg in front of him, his eyes involuntarily reddening. "This little girl is still the same as before, she won't listen to anything I say. I've already let her go, but she's left me with a troublesome thing to take care of."
Xu Yuehua smiled. He knew that although Grandpa Pu complained, he treasured this thing very much in his heart.
"Hey, how's your chat going, you two? Come over and eat, we can continue chatting after you finish." Pu Tianyi noticed they hadn't come over yet, so he took a few steps to find them. Seeing them talking, he shouted loudly from a distance.
