"If you didn't do all this, could it have been us?"
"All the evidence is laid out before you, do you still want to deny it?"
The village chief and the other villagers surrounded Adong, worried that he might secretly escape and they would have trouble explaining it to the others.
"It wasn't me! It really wasn't me! I don't know what happened!" A-Dong clutched his head, in great pain. Seeing so many people in front of him who didn't believe him, his eyes were filled with desolation.
The village chief and others had always felt that A-Dong was particularly abnormal. They would secretly help A-Dong sometimes because they were all from the same village.
But now that they've learned that Adong has secretly harmed so many of their livestock, they can no longer take care of him.
After all these years, A-Dong has never tried to integrate into their lives. They have given so much but received nothing in return, which makes them even more unwilling to forgive A-Dong.
"It's no use saying anything now. The evidence is right here, and we won't believe you."
"You'd better come back with us and accept your punishment!"
"You've harmed so many livestock in the village, you'll never be free for the rest of your life! From now on, you'll work for every household until you pay off all your debts, only then can you return home!"
Seeing that so many villagers were watching him and waiting for a trial, the village chief made this arrangement.
For A-Dong, this wasn't actually a bad thing. After all, it was already very difficult for him to survive on his own. He was able to make a living by working for other villagers, so it wasn't a very serious punishment.
Xu Yuehuai and his group were simply misunderstood by others. One of the guards was injured, but the rest were not seriously harmed. Seeing the village chief's arrangement and noticing A Dong's particularly strange personality, they didn't bother to explain their thoughts further.
This is ultimately a matter within their village, so let the village chief handle it himself.
"Now that we've been cleared of suspicion, let's head back now. We'll leave the village tomorrow."
As Xu Yuehuai spoke to the village chief, the village chief, upon learning the truth, felt extremely embarrassed and quickly agreed with a smile. He then immediately instructed a villager beside him to lead them back.
As for what happened next, Xu Yuehuai and the others didn't care and left it to the village chief and his group to handle.
After returning to the courtyard, Xu Yuehuai said, "It was indeed that A Dong who did this, but he doesn't seem to be lying. Could there be some other hidden story behind this?"
Qi Guze looked at the moonlight outside and figured that tomorrow would probably be a sunny day.
He replied to Xu Yuehuai: "The calluses on A Dong's hands look like he often handles knives. Although he pretends to be innocent on the surface, I can tell that he must have a particular fondness for killing. There is a strong smell of blood on him, a smell that penetrates deep into the skin."
“Normally people can’t smell it, but my nose is extremely sensitive. As soon as I get close to him, I can clearly smell the blood on him.”
"Don't be deceived by the superficial hypocrisy of some people. In this world, everyone is very complicated, and no one completely lays himself bare to the other person."
"If you ever meet someone like Ah Dong in the future, you must be more careful and not be deceived by him."
Upon hearing this, Xu Yuehuai quickly nodded, "Okay, I've remembered everything you said. I'll definitely be more careful in the future and will never be deceived by someone like Adong."
"Then you'd better remember what you said, and don't make me worry about you."
Qi Guze looked at Xu Yuehuai tenderly, his heart and eyes only for her.
"Yes, don't worry. I remember every word you said, and I won't forget a single one."
As Xu Yuehuai spoke, she threw herself into Qi Guze's arms.
"And what about you? Even if I encounter any danger, you can help me solve it!"
Qi Guze asked, "What if I'm not by your side one day? What will you do then?"
"Aren't we supposed to be together forever? Now there's nothing that can separate us!"
Xu Yuehuai didn't want the two of them to separate, after all, when they separated before, the other person almost died and was about to never see the other person again.
She never wanted to experience that feeling again. If they separated, she didn't know what they would go through or whether they would ever get back together.
Qi Guze stroked Xu Yuehuai's head and said, "But I have a feeling that we are going to separate again."
It was an inexplicable premonition. Qi Guze's premonitions were always remarkably accurate. He worried that he might encounter some unexpected events on the way to Wuling Kingdom, which would force him and Xu Yuehuai to separate.
Upon hearing this, Xu Yuehuai felt a little flustered. Qi Guze never lied; if he said he had this premonition, then it must be true.
"I don't want to be separated from you. When we're on our way, we must be very careful to observe our surroundings and make sure we don't run into a situation like what happened to Ah Qi last time."
Ah Qi came to hunt them down before, and they almost ended up being separated by life and death.
Xu Yuehuai felt a lingering fear whenever she thought about what had happened before, worrying that the same thing would happen again.
Qi Guze said gently, "Don't worry, I will never let you be in such danger again."
"We'll pay close attention to our surroundings along the way. You'll stay by my side the whole time, and we'll never be separated."
Qi Guze was worried that his words had frightened Xu Yuehuai, so he quickly said something else to comfort her.
"Um."
Xu Yuehuai was feeling a little down and leaned against Qi Guze's chest.
After chatting for a while, the two went back to their house to rest as night deepened.
The rest of the night was unusually quiet, and nothing else happened.
The next day, they woke up early, ate some simple food prepared by the villagers, and then prepared to set off to continue their journey.
The village chief felt particularly sorry for them, so he prepared extra food for them to eat on their journey.
"We are so sorry that the events in our village have affected you and delayed your journey. This is our compensation to you, please accept it."
Xu Yuehuai was somewhat shocked when she saw the large package filled with dry food.
