Chapter 1340 Both Facing Death

With a gentle wave of his hand, the faceless man witnessed an incredible scene.

Bai Yu and Bei Ye, two partners who should have fought side by side, were driven by an unseen force to turn their blades against each other, their shock and pain intertwining to create a heartbreaking scene.

"No! How could this happen?" Xu Yuehuai roared, her eyes reddening, tears welling up but stubbornly refusing to fall. She tried to approach, but was pushed away by an invisible force, forced to watch helplessly as tragedy unfolded.

"Bei Ye, Bai Yu..." Her voice trembled, each word seeming to be torn from the depths of her heart, "You can't do this!"

A bitter smile flashed across Bei Ye's face, a smile of helplessness in the face of fate and a deep sense of apology to Bai Yu.

"I never imagined I'd end up dying alongside you. But it's for the best, at least we didn't hurt my sister."

Bai Yu's eyes also flickered with complex emotions, including a calm acceptance of death and a deep understanding of Bei Ye.

“I was also surprised, but dying by my hand is the best end for you,” he said with a hint of tenderness, as if he were comforting a friend who was about to embark on a long journey. “I will act quickly, so it won’t be too painful.”

Their conversation was simple yet heavy; every word was like a hammer blow, striking Xu Yuehuai's strong yet fragile heart.

Xu Yuehuai's tears finally broke free and streamed down her face. She screamed, "No! Don't die! You owe me, and I won't let you die!"

However, the faceless man merely sneered, "I love seeing you suffer like this. If that's not enough, I'll add some more spice to your lives!"

He tightened his control over Bei Ye and Bai Yu, and their movements became increasingly intense. The blades flashed and clashed under the moonlight, and finally, they both pierced each other's hearts!

Blood stained her clothes and blurred Xu Yuehuai's vision. Her eyes widened, as if she wanted to etch this moment forever into her heart. At that moment, time froze, the whole world lost its color, leaving only endless darkness and despair.

"Why?" Xu Yuehuai asked, filled with confusion and indignation. "Why are you doing this to us?"

The faceless man slowly turned around, his empty eyes seeming to see the deepest fear in Xu Yuehuai's heart.

“Because this is your destiny.” His words were devoid of any warmth. “Your pain and your despair are the best nourishment for me.”

Suddenly, the deathly silence was shattered by a strange, unexpected light. The light seemed to overflow from a crack in the sky, carrying a powerful and mysterious aura, instantly illuminating every corner of the back mountain, and even the air was filled with an unusual fluctuation.

Looking at the light, Xu Yuehuai felt a sense of familiarity within it.

Amidst this bizarre and wondrous scene, a figure slowly coalesced in the light. He wore a silver-white robe, his face shrouded in a faint halo, obscuring his true features, yet possessing an extraordinary and refined aura.

He spoke slowly, his voice gentle yet powerful: "Stop. Their fate should be determined by Heaven, not by your own hand."

The faceless man appeared extremely angry at this moment. His black robe trembled under the invisible force, and his face seemed to be filled with raging anger.

"Who are you? How dare you obstruct me!" he roared, but his body was bound by invisible chains and he could not move.

Gradually, the person's figure became clearer.

When she saw the figure clearly, the light in Xu Yuehuai's eyes ignited once again.

"Aze! He killed Bei Ye and Bai Yu, we must not let him get away with this!" She clenched her fists, her anger soaring.

Qi Guze gave her a reassuring look, then turned to face the faceless man, "Alright, I will end all of this today."

Before he finished speaking, he flashed behind the faceless man, his longsword flashing like lightning, piercing the faceless man's black robe with unerring accuracy, and seemingly piercing his soul as well.

"Qi Guze! We will meet again!" The faceless man's voice echoed in the air, filled with resentment and curses. The black robe slowly fell to the ground, and he vanished like smoke, leaving only a deathly silence.

Xu Yuehuai hurriedly stepped forward, staring at the spot where the faceless man had disappeared, her eyes filled with unease.

Where did he go? Could he be coming back for more?

Qi Guze stepped forward and gently pulled Xu Yuehuai into his arms, offering her strength and comfort.

"Don't worry, no matter how many times he resurrects, I will always be an insurmountable obstacle for him." His words seemed to dispel all gloom, putting Xu Yuehuai at ease.

"But Bei Ye and the others can never come back to life."

But then, Xu Yuehuai's attention was drawn to Bei Ye and Bai Yu on the ground. She suddenly broke free from Qi Guze's embrace and ran to the two of them.

"That's not necessarily true. I sense that they don't seem to be really dead," Qi Guze said leisurely.

Upon hearing this, Xu Yuehuai's hands trembled as she took their pulses.

“Their heartbeats… though faint, are still there!” A hint of surprise flashed in her eyes, then turned to worry. “But their condition remains critical.”

Qi Guze stepped forward, squatted down, and carefully examined the two of them.

"If the Ghost Doctor were here, they might still have a glimmer of hope."

Hope rekindled in Xu Yuehuai's eyes. "The Ghost Doctor! Yes, the Ghost Doctor must have a way to save them!"

She excitedly grabbed Qi Guze's arm, "With the addition of the 'Secret Manual of Medicine,' he will surely be able to find a way to cure him."

Qi Guze said gently, "Don't worry, I've already sent people to find the Ghost Doctor. Now, let's take them back and settle them properly while we wait for the Ghost Doctor to arrive."

Together, the two carefully helped Bei Ye and Bai Yu to their feet, taking each step with extreme caution, as if afraid of disturbing this hard-won chance of life. A night breeze swept by, carrying a hint of coolness, but it also seemed to dispel the gloom and bring a ray of dawn.

"Is this where you've been staying lately?" Qi Guze frowned as he looked at everything he had scavenged in the thatched hut. "You've suffered so much these past few days. Now that I'm here, I won't let you suffer anymore."

Xu Yuehuai didn't think the place was too shabby; in a time of crisis when they were trying to escape, this was already considered very good treatment.

Back inside, Xu Yuehuai sat on the edge of the bed, looking at the two silent Bei Ye, her eyes filled with prayer and hope.

Qi Guze quietly arranged everything, wiping away all the dusty things around him to make the environment more comfortable.

"No matter what, I will not let them die in front of me," Xu Yuehuai said, looking at Qi Guze.

Qi Guze nodded slightly, and their eyes met in the air. No words were needed; their feelings were clear to each other.

The night is still long, but hope has quietly blossomed in the darkness like stars.
