Chapter 7 Stroke
"Then...then go and ask the best doctor outside! Quick!" Mr. Cui roared angrily.
The housekeeper crawled away.
The government was in a mess and sent people to invite the doctor, but it was late at night and this was a family with such a bad reputation.
The doctors invited were either sleepy-eyed mediocre doctors with mediocre skills, or they would just shake their heads and wave their hands when they heard that it was the Yanshou Hall of Weiyuan Marquis Mansion, and would not even open the door.
After much difficulty, at daybreak, the housekeeper used coaxing, intimidation, and spent a large sum of money to drag the half-sleeping old doctor from his home in the south of the city, who was famous for treating injuries.
The old doctor yawned as he was led to Yanshou Hall.
As soon as he entered the door, the strong smell of medicine and sandalwood mixed with the ominous scent emanating from the patient made him frown.
When he saw the old woman lying on the bed with her mouth and eyes crooked, drooling, her eyes full of resentment and turbidity, and her body twitching from time to time, and then took her pulse which was as disordered as a tangled thread and sometimes came and went, the old doctor's brows were twisted into knots.
He withdrew his hand, shook his head and sighed at Mr. Cui and Aunt Zhang who were anxiously running around beside him, with a tone of indifference that was none of his business.
"Prepare for the funeral. The old lady is suffering from a heart attack caused by anger, phlegm in her mind, and wind evil entering her marrow... She's had a stroke!
And it's coming with such force and force, it's extremely serious! Forgive me for being blunt, but this... even gods can't help, it's just a matter of time."
"Stroke?!" Mr. Cui was struck by lightning, and collapsed into his chair in despair. Aunt Zhang was even more pale.
"Doctor! Please think of another way! Use the best medicine! Money is not a problem!"
The second wife screamed with fear in her voice. She was even more afraid that this "evil woman" mother-in-law would die in her own home, and the reputation of the second wife would be completely ruined.
The old doctor packed his medicine box without even raising his eyelids.
"Madam, this isn't about money. This disease... is extremely dangerous. Even if you use old mountain ginseng to keep it going, it will only make you suffer for a few more days.
The old lady is old, her foundation is damaged, and she has suffered such a great shock... Well, let's do our best and leave the rest to fate."
He carried the medicine box on his back and bowed.
"I'll prescribe a prescription to keep you calm first. Goodbye." After saying that, he fled from Yanshou Hall, which was filled with despair and ominous atmosphere.
In Yanshou Hall, the only sound left was the intermittent hoarse sound coming from Old Madam Zhou's throat, like an old bellows, which was filled with endless resentment and unwillingness.
Her cloudy eyes stared at the carved ceiling, and turbid tears flowed from the corners of her eyes. She didn't know whether it was regret or fear.
She seemed to see countless pairs of eyes looking at her with contempt behind the windows of thousands of households in the capital, the spit of people talking about her in the streets, and the resentment and alienation in the eyes of her sons and daughters-in-law.
He saw the evasive and frightened eyes of his granddaughters, and saw the once glorious plaque of Weiyuan Marquis Mansion falling down and shattered in the midst of dust and curses!
She opened her mouth, wanting to curse this cruel world, curse Cui Xiao and Hu Qing who ruined her plans, and curse this unfair God!
But she could not utter a word, only the desperate hoarse sound, in the dead silence and the smell of decay in the Yanshou Hall.
It echoed hollowly, like a mournful death knell for this vicious old woman and this dilapidated mansion.
In the small courtyard next to Qixia Courtyard, Hu Qing was humming a little tune and slowly packing his huge wicker medicine box.
A few simple changes of clothes were rolled up and stuffed in there, along with a few old, tattered medical books with curled edges, and a few small bottles containing strange medicinal powders and pills.
"Are you really leaving?"
Cui Xiao leaned against the door frame, playing with a piece of fine mutton-fat jade pendant in his hand. He had just taken it out of the warehouse and was going to give it to Hu Qing as a "medical fee".
"Why don't you leave?"
Hu Qing put the last roll of silver needles into his wallet without raising his head, and patted the box.
"Your grandmother is already like that, and I've already exceeded my 'renewal' target! If I stay any longer, I'm afraid she'll come to me in my dreams and strangle me!"
He grinned, revealing a row of small white teeth, but his eyes were clear and bright.
Cui Xiao threw the jade pendant over: "Take it! Consultation fee! So that you don't go out and say that my Weiyuan Marquis Mansion is stingy!"
Hu Qing took it and put it in his arms without even looking at it.
"Thank you, my Lord! It's enough for me to eat braised pork elbows for a month!"
He carried the medicine box on his back and walked to the door, then suddenly stopped and looked back at Cui Xiao. His surprisingly bright eyes were no longer playful, but instead had the clarity of a young man who had seen through the world.
"Hey, Prince Cui, when you enter the palace and serve the prince, be more careful. The rat poison there... is much more varied than the snacks I've ever eaten."
Cui Xiao was slightly startled, and then a smile of understanding appeared in his peach blossom eyes.
With a light that belongs to their age, mixed with sharpness and cunning
"Don't worry, Little Hu, the Divine Doctor. You snatched my life back from the hands of the King of Hell. It's priceless! Rat poison? Humph, how much do you want? I..."
He paused, imitating Hu Qing's tone, and smiled mischievously, "...as an appetizer!"
