The further down they went, the shriller the screams became. They sounded as if they were going to shatter their internal organs, making Luo Youyou feel uncomfortable in her chest. She didn't know if it was because of the sound or because the pressure of the sea water was too great and she couldn't bear it.
Everyone held their breath, their expressions solemn. Even though they treated humans as food, they still felt that it was too inhumane to make them make such sharp screams. Just like a saying passed down by humans, killing is not enough to get over the crime. Even the vampires could not bear to hear such torture.
After diving for a long time accompanied by screams, they finally reached the bottom of the sea. The sea water was icy cold and a bit unbearable for Lang Bai. Even though he had used all his fur to keep out the cold, he still felt his teeth chattering.
This is already the territory of mermaids. Mermaids in the human world are not good people, so they must be careful. The mermaid's tail, like a fish's, can sense abnormalities in the water flow. They are the overlords of this sea area and are dozens of times more sensitive than ordinary fish scales.
They stopped where they were, not daring to move forward rashly. If they were not careful, they would be surrounded by the mermaids. In the water, they could not guarantee that their speed would be faster than the mermaids.
Luo Youyou stretched out her finger. She couldn't use the power of the Snow Girl freely yet. The Snow Girl could turn her whole body into wind and snow. If she could turn into wind and snow and swim on the bottom of the sea, the wind and snow would merge with the sea water. Even if the mermaid felt it, she wouldn't be able to see anything and would only think it was a stronger current.
She tried to turn herself into snow, but after trying for a long time, all she could do was spray snowflakes from her fingers, which were quickly swallowed up by the sea water.
Mo Yu walked over, pointed at himself, and then suddenly dived into the red soil on the seabed.
Luo Youyou wanted to stop him, but it was too late. Mo Yu had already headed towards the Mermaid Palace. This method of eavesdropping was very good on the ground, but it would still stir up currents on the seabed, which was very dangerous.
Seeing the small mound of earth raised by Mo Yu's body quickly moving towards the direction of the scream, like a loach under the ground, Luo Youyou's heart also hung in the air. She became anxious and suddenly turned into wind and snow, disappearing in the ocean current.
She circled around them to reassure them, then chased after Mo Yu. Apart from the visible current surging in the water, she couldn't see Luo Youyou at all.
After turning into a blizzard, Luo Youyou unexpectedly sped up a lot thanks to the undercurrent on the seabed. She quickly caught up with Moyu and burrowed into the ground as well. She said to Moyu, "Stop." Her voice was so soft that Moyu was startled, but she still stopped.
Luo Youyou continued forward, her screams growing increasingly shrill, filling the entire ocean and shaking the earth. Faint flames could be seen ahead.
There was a fire on the seabed, which made Luo Youyou feel very curious. He quickly swam towards the direction of the fire, which was also where the screams were the loudest.
The firelight grew closer, and suddenly a flat expanse appeared before my eyes. It was like a plain, not particularly large, but certainly not small. The seabed was different from the land. It was mostly mountainous and full of reefs. The sudden appearance of such an empty space was already incredible. The most incredible thing was that this not-so-small plain was filled with humans.
Judging from their smell, Luo Youyou was sure that they were human. But humans could actually withstand such pressure at the bottom of the sea and breathe in water.
There were densely packed metal stakes on the flat ground, and a person was tied to each stake. Their eyes were vacant and filled with deep despair. People who were so desperate could no longer feel the pain in their bodies, but even though they had given up hope of life, they still roared in pain.
Luo Youyou could even feel the pain they were suffering from their expressions.
But apart from being tied to the stakes, they were not subjected to any punishment, they were just tied up, so why would they be in pain? And there was not a single mermaid here.
Luo Youyou shuttled among them in confusion, then an idea came to her. She swam far upstream and looked down. The piles formed a totem. From a distance, it looked like a totem on fire, but when she got closer, she could not see any fire.
Luo Youyou immediately understood that this was a huge altar, or a magic formation. She smelled the scent of mermaids in the sea water approaching rapidly, like an arrow. She quickly steadied herself in the water and blended into the vast water.
The mermaid that rushed over looked very old. She had pointed ears, a bit like an elf. The back of her ears were covered with scales, which were dull and without luster. Her hair was very long and fell to her waist. Her face was covered with wrinkles, and her triangular eyes were squeezed by her slowly wrinkled eyelids.
The upper body looked like a human, but the skin was wrinkled like a rag, and there was no clothes on. Perhaps it was not necessary at the bottom of the sea. The lower body was a fish tail with green scales, which were also dull.
She looked hurried as she shuttled through the middle of the altar. Luo Youyou noticed that there was a sequence, and then she stopped at a point on the edge of the totem. That point was very special, with a strangely shaped altar in front of it. She stood in front of the altar and began to mutter non-stop.
Luo Youyou felt a little hot around her, so she quickly swam upwards again. Suddenly, flames shot up into the sky from the bottom of the sea, and the tied people screamed even more hysterically. The mermaid looked focused and chanted a spell. As soon as she finished the spell, the strangely shaped jar in front of her suddenly moved. It seemed like there was a person struggling in pain inside. The struggling posture, including his expression, were clearly reflected on the jar.
Luo Youyou smelled the scent of a dead person on the stake, and the jar should contain that person's soul.
