Chapter 4: Dangers Lurk

Luo Youyou didn't notice the change in Jing Yan's expression at all. She looked at her hands happily, feeling a little complacent about this sudden ability.

Jing Yan was looking at her with a frown when he suddenly heard light footsteps and the smell of food in the air—human! But...it smelled a little strange.

Jing Yan scurried up to Luo Youyou, grabbed her waist, and dodged into a corner, one hand covering her mouth. Luo Youyou felt dizzy from the speed of the attack. When she regained consciousness and was about to explode, Jing Yan placed a finger on his lips, silencing her. Luo Youyou sniffed the air; besides the scent of earth, there was also the faint scent of human presence, and the footsteps were light.

The footsteps were getting closer and closer, and stopped at the place where the two had just fought. Luo Youyou sniffed carefully again and found that the smell was very familiar.

His eyes suddenly widened—Mu Yaxi!

How could it be possible! How could Mu Yaxi be here in the middle of the night on this deserted street? She secretly peeked out and saw a thin figure wearing canvas shoes, denim shorts, and a white T-shirt, revealing long legs. It was completely unlike Mu Yaxi's style, and he also had long orange hair.

Luo Youyou smelled it again. In addition to the human smell, there was another faint smell on this person. She was not sure what it was, but she was sure that this mixed smell was definitely not Mu Yaxi's smell.

The man stayed for a while and then left quietly. If it weren't for Jing Yan and Luo Youyou's keen hearing and sense of smell, they would hardly have noticed that someone had come here.

After she walked away, two people came out from the corner and were surprised to find that the street lamp that had been destroyed before was now standing intact on the side of the road. The hole on the ground made by the two people when they jumped from the building was gone, and everything returned to its original state.

Jing Yan pondered. This woman's scent was very similar to Luo Youyou's friend's, yet not exactly the same. And that figure and hair color—was it a coincidence? But in over 200 years of life, aside from the slightest resemblance between close family members, he'd never seen two people with such a similar scent. Was this another case of something beyond human perception? Even more bizarre, it was impossible for humans to conceal their scent and voice. Clearly, this person was adept at it. If he hadn't been so vigilant, he would have surely overlooked this faint scent.

Jing Yan narrowed his eyes as he looked at Luo Youyou. This woman was incredibly mysterious. Ever since he'd met her, she'd been doing all sorts of incredible things, constantly surpassing his 200-year-old understanding. His intuition told him that Luo Youyou's abilities weren't limited to this. If she could be used by the Lesenba tribe, she'd be a significant force in their future battles against the Secret Party. Her aggressiveness against the vampires alone would be enough to give the Lesenba tribe an even greater advantage.

Luo Youyou was completely oblivious to the plotting and calculating in Jing Yan's eyes. She watched the woman leave, bewildered. Was this person showing up so late at night just to clean up the mess? And who was she? Why did she smell like Mu Yaxi?

Jing Yan stretched out his hand and waved it in front of Luo Youyou. What he needed to solve now was to establish a good relationship with Luo Youyou. As for that mysterious human, he had a hunch that she would appear sooner or later. The smile on his face looked very gentle and harmless. "It's still early. Do you want to go to my villa and take a look?"

Luo Youyou was no stranger to villas. Mu Yaxi, Fang Ziyu, and Ni Tiantian all lived in villas, and she often visited them on weekends. However, the idea of a vampire's villa still piqued Luo Youyou's curiosity. She wondered if there were any coffins in the legend. Vampires in movies lived in coffins during the day, and Luo Youyou was curious about what Jing Yan's coffin would look like. The image of Jing Yan lying in the coffin with his eyes closed emerged in her mind. His handsome face was so vivid even in sleep that Luo Youyou covered her mouth and smiled.

"Let's go and try your speed!" Although Luo Youyou didn't answer, Jing Yan saw expectation in her eyes. After saying this, he ran. Luo Youyou only saw a figure flash before her eyes, and in the blink of an eye, Jing Yan's figure disappeared.

She also ran, but her speed was far slower than Jing Yan's, just like usual. If it weren't for the unknown floral scent from Jing Yan lingering in the air, she would have lost her direction.

Finally, they ran to a villa in the suburbs. Luo Youyou was already out of breath. Jing Yan was sitting on the steps in front of the house, whistling leisurely, which made Luo Youyou very angry.

"It took me half an hour, and it's okay. It seems that your ability is not very stable yet." Jing Yan said after looking at his watch.

Half an hour? Luo Youyou looked at her phone in surprise. It was indeed half an hour. However, the distance they had just traveled was at least two or three hundred kilometers, which would have taken at least two hours by car. She was so focused on smelling the food that she hadn't noticed how fast she was running.

Jing Yan opened the door and invited Luo Youyou in. The room was dark. To be more precise, there were lights, but no electricity. The ornate lighting seemed merely a decoration, as Luo Youyou couldn't even find the switch. She was a little uncomfortable with the darkness, but after a while, she realized she could see everything clearly in the darkness, just as she could with the brilliant lights before her. She couldn't help but feel surprised again.

"It seems you can see clearly." Jing Yan tilted his head and looked at Luo Youyou and said in summary.

Luo Youyou nodded and walked towards the living room. "I'm just not used to it. Why don't you turn on the lights?"

Jing Yan smiled, "No need, the vampires are a race that lives in darkness. This is just the most basic ability."

Luo Youyou began to tour the villa. The entire villa was lavishly decorated, even more luxurious than Mu Yaxi's. However, despite searching everywhere, she couldn't find the coffin. The living room was a closed room, windowless and identical to a human bedroom. Even the bed was familiar to her, ordinary as could be. Feeling a little disappointed, Luo Youyou blurted out, "Why isn't there a coffin?"
