atmosphere
Back at Shen Yi'an's villa, the atmosphere was completely different from before. Compared to the harmonious atmosphere that seemed to exist between everyone before, there was now an awkwardness that followed the exposure of the interview.
Yun Jin and Qi Qi leaned against the spacious French windows, one on each side, silently gazing out the window. Unusually, they didn't bicker; instead, they were each lost in their own thoughts.
Outside the window, the branches of the tree swayed in the sunlight as the wind blew, and that annoying crow was still flying around in the distance, occasionally letting out a noisy cawing.
I don’t know if this is good news or not, but Shen Yi’an has been leaving early these past two days and is not at the villa right now.
With Shen Yi'an gone, Yun Jin's tense nerves could relax a little, but what followed was even deeper fatigue and... a headache.
Yun Jin has been back for several days now. In these few days of intensive interaction, she has met a Shen Yi'an who is completely different from the one she knew before.
She is cunning, clingy, and has a strong desire for control.
Yun Jin felt like she had been deceived.
When they first met, Yun Jin thought Shen Yi'an was essentially a somewhat lonely but still kind-hearted person.
Now it seems that beneath that gentle exterior lies a more complex essence, making this cat demon appear much simpler in comparison.
Yun Chen, your sister really can't handle this kind of person.
Whenever Yun Jin tried to discuss practical issues with him, Shen Yi'an always managed to get away with it by pretending to be stupid, changing the subject, or making enthusiastic promises.
There's a saying, what was it again? Never doubt sincerity, but sincerity is ever-changing.
Yun Jin did not doubt his burning "sincerity" at this moment. When he was infatuated, he could indeed disregard everything and felt that all difficulties could be overcome.
But what if it goes on for too long? When the initial enthusiasm fades, when the daily grind and pressures become too much, when his world is constantly experiencing friction and loss because of her presence... he will eventually feel tired and bored.
And when that time comes, he might complain that Yun Jin is a demon, and why she can't bring him ordinary happiness but instead brings him endless trouble.
This pessimistic view of human fragility stood like an insurmountable chasm in Yun Jin's heart, preventing her from throwing herself into things as recklessly as he did...
"Waaaaah—I don't want to! I don't want to be sent for sterilization!"
Qi Qi's voice was shrill, and she wailed for a long time.
It's so noisy.
Yun Jin's lips twitched. This old monster usually pretends to be serious, always talking about the dignity of the demon race, but at times like this, he reveals his true colors, becoming both cowardly and noisy.
Since Qiqi returned, Yan Fei has put his neutering on the agenda. After all, in his opinion, this is a male dog of unknown origin that may run around everywhere and has excessive energy.
Spaying/neutering is something a responsible owner should do. The surgery is scheduled for next week, and Yan Fei even took a day off to personally accompany the owner, showing how much he cares.
But this "attentiveness" was undoubtedly a bolt from the blue for Qiqi.
"Stop yelling!" Yun Jin snapped, her head throbbing from the noise. "What's the point of howling?"
Under Shen Yi'an and Yan Fei's arrangement, Yun Jin and Qi Qi were basically unable to run away at will. Yun Jin was fine, but this practically cut off Qi Qi's escape route.
Qiqi continued to wail, "Is my innocent dog life going to be ruined like this?! These cruel humans!"
Yun Jin was so annoyed by his noise that all the heavy worries about Shen Yi'an and the future were temporarily pushed aside by the commotion.
She rubbed her temples and sighed, "Alright, stop howling, I'll think of something."
Just talk to Shen Yi'an about this; after all, males understand males best.
"Why have you and Shen Yi'an become like this? You two used to be all lovey-dovey."
After hearing Yun Jin's words, Qi Qi completely changed from his previous wailing and crying state to sitting upright, as if he wasn't the one who had been howling and crying about sterilization.
"Your expression changes so quickly? You were just acting like you were going to die a moment ago." Yun Jin was taken aback by his sudden change.
But she didn't want to delve into the topic: "There's nothing to say. It's normal for relationships to break up and get back together, anyway... it won't last long."
However, Qi Qi's gossip spirit had clearly been ignited, and he asked anxiously, "What's wrong? Did something happen? Could it be... that you found out he's having an affair?!"
His tone was full of excitement, as if he wanted to tell me the gossip.
A vein appeared on Yun Jin's forehead, and she said with a self-deprecating tone, "Yes, you guessed it. I found out he has many lovers outside."
She thought that this would be enough to get rid of Qiqi.
Unexpectedly, after hearing this, Qiqi had an expression on her face that said, "I already knew that."
He nodded very seriously: "My nose doesn't lie! When I arrived, I smelled a strange perfume on him! And it was a mixture of several people's scents!"
Qi Qi spoke with absolute certainty, as if she had some irrefutable and crucial evidence.
Yun Jin: "..."
She had only said it casually to shut Qiqi up, but... she actually got this "unexpected benefit"?
It's highly likely that it smells of Xie Xinrou and other staff members. However, Yun Jin still needs to be careful. Although most of Shen Yi'an's scandals were brought about by Xie Xinrou, what if...?
The air suddenly fell silent, leaving only Qiqi with a smug expression that seemed to say, "Look how amazing I am, praise me!"
"Yes, yes, you're the best," Yun Jin said softly.
"bell--"
The wind chimes at the door rang, signaling that Shen Yi'an and the others had returned.
Shen Yi'an walked in first, his face full of exhaustion. He went straight to the sofa and slumped down as if he had lost all his strength.
Immediately after, Yan Fei followed in, carrying a hospital plastic bag containing some reports and medicine boxes, which made a soft rustling sound as he walked.
He didn't linger in the living room, but went straight to Shen Yi'an's room, probably to put these things away.
Yun Jin could clearly sense the low pressure and unhappiness emanating from Shen Yi'an. She lightly jumped onto the sofa, walked to his side, and rubbed her fluffy head against his hand.
Shen Yi'an patted her head, his voice a little hoarse, but he tried to force a weak smile.
"It's okay... don't worry, I'm always in a bad mood when I go to the hospital, but I'll feel better after taking some medicine."
Yan Fei came out of the room and glanced at Shen Yi'an, who was slumped on the sofa: "You should rest well these few days and don't go. I'll discuss it with the 'My Pet' program team again."
"Okay," Shen Yi'an replied sullenly.
The wind chimes at the door rang again, and Yan Fei left the villa.
Silence spread through the living room.
Yun Jin hesitated for a moment, then asked softly, "What's wrong? Are you sick?"
Shen Yi'an remained silent for a while, seemingly trying to figure out how to accept it. His gaze lingered on Yun Jin for a moment before shifting away.
“Well,” he sighed as if resigned to his fate, “the previous diagnosis… only said there was a tendency towards depression, but after the follow-up examination, the doctor said… it has turned into bipolar disorder.”
When Shen Yi'an said these words, his voice was dry, and he carried a shame that was hard to express.
These unfamiliar terms made Yun Jin's heart tighten. She seemed to have seen them on her phone before, but she didn't know their specific meanings.
Before she could even take out her phone to search, Shen Yi'an's next words struck her like a hammer blow.
Shen Yi'an's eyes sparkled, and his voice was still hoarse: "I'm sorry, Yun Jin, from the time I confessed to you until now, I've been in a very excited state, so what I said and did was..."
"Did I scare you?"
"I'm so sorry, Yun Jin, really."
At this moment, Yun Jin saw that Shen Yi'an's light purple eyes were filled with tears of self-blame, completely different from Shen Yi'an a few days ago. Is this the effect of mental illness?
Yun Jin transformed back into human form, embraced Shen Yi'an, and comforted him. She could feel the pain and helplessness in Shen Yi'an's words.
“Yun Jin, I promise you, I will get better, it just takes some time…” Shen Yi’an gently held Yun Jin’s hand like a child.
Yun Jin took a deep breath and slowly spoke, "Shen Yi'an, why didn't you tell me?"
“I…I thought I was better and didn’t need to tell you. I wanted to give you a sense of security, but now I realize that I can’t…” Shen Yi’an’s voice grew softer and softer.
Yun Jin was at a loss for words. At least in the matter of concealing things from each other, they were quite similar.
With her other hand, she took out her phone and typed "bipolar disorder" into the search bar. A lot of information popped up, and Yun Jin quickly scrolled through the page, looking at the words that were highlighted.
Impulsive behavior, high energy levels, increased verbal activity...
Yun Jin recalled the pills and diagnosis she had seen in Shen Yi'an's room cabinet. Perhaps she had misunderstood Shen Yi'an; he was just pretending very well, and even though they spent every day together, Yun Jin hadn't noticed.
Beneath the phone was Shen Yi'an's uneasy gaze. Yun Jin smiled, turned off the phone screen, and put it aside.
Then, she gently stroked Shen Yi'an's head. Shen Yi'an's hair was short and stiff, and felt prickly to the touch.
"I'm worried about your condition, not that I dislike you, Shen Yi'an." Yun Jin tried her best to make her voice sound calm.
Yun Jin knew his fear, just like her own: the fear of being pushed away and disgusted because of his illness.
"But you should let me know. Don't you know that making people guess is a very troublesome thing?"
Shen Yi'an adjusted his posture, relaxing his body a bit more. He rested his head on Yun Jin's legs and closed his eyes.
The atmosphere in the living room began to relax, and Qiqi wagged its tail and came over to nuzzle Shen Yi'an's head.
Shen Yi'an stared intently at Yun Jin.
"Thanks……"
Some things are better left unsaid, and Yun Jin knew he didn't want to say the second half.
