Heartbeat
Yun Jin took a deep breath, looked at the dark room where Shen Yi'an was inside, and without further hesitation, she made up her mind and jumped straight down!
Her body was falling rapidly, the wind whistling past her ears and scraping her face like knives. In that moment of weightlessness, Yun Jin actually remembered the scene she had filmed with Shen Yi'an.
In the script at that time, she, as an animal actor, needed to break through a window to deliver a letter to the character played by Shen Yi'an. She thought to herself: A cat wouldn't be that stupid, why would it crash into the glass? Doesn't that hurt...?
And now she understands, ordinary cats certainly wouldn't, but cats will do silly things for important people!
Just like in the play, the cat broke through the window and brought news of his sweetheart to the seriously ill boy.
A belief surfaced in Yun Jin's mind, overpowering the sound of the wind and her fear—I will definitely not let you die like this, Shen Yi'an!
"Splash!!!"
Under the influence of gravity, Yun Jin's body shattered the already cracked glass, and countless shards of glass flew in all directions, slicing across Yun Jin's face and claws.
"it hurts--"
Yun Jin endured the pain and tried to adjust her posture in mid-air. With a "thud," her four claws landed steadily on the ground, but the moment she touched the ground, a piercing pain came from the soles of her feet.
Looking at the scattered shards of glass around her, Yun Jin hadn't even had time to catch her breath when she saw a scene that almost made her heart stop beating.
On the other side of the room, Shen Yi'an knelt on the ground, his expression blank. He held a shard of porcelain in one hand and was scratching it on his other arm. His trousers were soaked with blood, which slowly dripped onto the ground.
"Shen Yi'an..." Yun Jin gasped for breath, leaning against him fearfully.
The loud noise didn't attract his attention. It was Yun Jin's soft call that made him raise his head slightly. When he saw that it was Yun Jin, a trace of panic flashed in his empty eyes.
Like a frightened animal, he shrank back into the corner, his voice low and trembling: "Don't come any closer! Please... Yun Jin, I... I'll hurt you!"
"Then don't hurt yourself."
When Yun Jin saw Shen Yi'an clearly, the anger she felt at him for not telling her anything instantly vanished. Looking at Shen Yi'an's helplessness and fear, Yun Jin suddenly felt a dryness in her throat.
She had to get close to him, she had to stop him, she had to save him!
The cold moonlight streamed in through the broken window, distorting the space around Yun Jin. Her figure slowly elongated, and then she transformed back into human form.
She reached out to the figure curled up in the corner, her voice as gentle as moonlight: "Shen Yi'an... let me hug you, okay?"
"No, Yun Jin!" Shen Yi'an shook his head violently, tears mixed with blood streaming down his face. "Please, go... Tomorrow, I'll definitely be better. I won't lose control again. Let me handle it myself, okay?"
Yun Jin ignored his pleas for mercy and walked over step by step, slowly squatting down in front of her. She reached out and carefully brushed away the bangs that were stuck to Shen Yi'an's forehead.
He was gently lifted up, his light purple eyes were red and swollen and filled with despair, one hand was still tightly clutching a piece of porcelain, and blood was flowing down his arm.
Yun Jin gently pressed Shen Yi'an's head against her chest, listening to his helpless sobs: "I'm sorry... I will get better."
"Can you let go of my hand?" Yun Jin held Shen Yi'an's bleeding hand, her fingers slipping into his palm, feeling the porcelain shard that he had warmed up.
"I wanted to let go, but my hand... is completely out of my control..." Shen Yi'an looked up at his trembling hand, "Wait a while, it should be fine."
"Yun Jin! Don't put your hand in there, you'll get scratched!" Shen Yi'an looked at Yun Jin's hand, his voice hoarse with excitement.
Yun Jin smiled at him and slowly pried open Shen Yi'an's blood-covered fingers, the porcelain shard sinking deep into Shen Yi'an's palm.
However, due to his unstable emotional state, Shen Yi'an's grip was surprisingly strong. Yun Jin finally managed to grab the porcelain shard, but he subconsciously exerted force!
"Pfft!" A sharp piece of porcelain pierced Yun Jin's palm!
"Ugh..." A sharp pain shot from her palm to her brain. Yun Jin bit her lower lip hard to keep from crying out. She instinctively tried to pull her hand away.
"I'm sorry, I..." Shen Yi'an saw the pained expression on Yun Jin's face, and the immense guilt was pulling him into a black hole of emotions.
But before he could finish speaking, Yun Jin gently touched his lips with the index finger of her uninjured hand, stopping him from apologizing.
“Don’t apologize,” Yun Jin said softly. “It’s not your fault. You’re just sick.”
While comforting Shen Yi'an, who was on the verge of collapse, Yun Jin quickly pulled her injured hand away.
A large pool of blood had already dripped onto the ground, some from Shen Yi'an, and some from Yun Jin...
"You...you should go and get it bandaged!" Shen Yi'an lowered his head, not daring to look at Yun Jin's hands.
"Shen Yi'an," Yun Jin ignored her own bloodied hand, gently lifted Shen Yi'an's face, and said softly, "Look at me. If I let go of you now, will you continue to hurt yourself?"
She knew very well that she couldn't leave Shen Yi'an alone until he had completely calmed down.
Shen Yi'an did not answer. As if he had exhausted all his strength, he rested his head on Yun Jin's shoulder. Yun Jin immediately felt the fabric on her shoulder being soaked with warm liquid.
Yun Jin felt a pang in her heart, and she gently stroked Shen Yi'an's hair and the back of his neck.
At the same time, Yun Jin looked at her bloodied palm, where the porcelain shard was still stuck.
Without hesitation, she lowered her head, bit the exposed part with her teeth, and flung it away!
With a "plop," the porcelain shard was forcefully pushed out. Without any obstruction, the bleeding intensified.
The moment Shen Yi'an looked up, he was startled by the horrific scene before him! His face was pale, and he was panting heavily. His fingernails involuntarily dug into his other arm: "Yun Jin! Don't worry about me, let's go to the hospital first!"
Yun Jin's lips twitched a few times. The next second, a soft light flickered on that blood-soaked palm, and it slowly shrank into a cat's paw. The wound also shrank until it became a small scar.
Yun Jin lowered her head and licked her wound, which scabbed over at a speed visible to the naked eye.
The whole process takes only one minute.
She changed her hand back to its original shape and skillfully showed Shen Yi'an her healed hand: "Look, Shen Yi'an, we cat demons are very powerful. We stopped the bleeding from such a small wound in no time."
Shen Yi'an stared blankly at Yun Jin's hand, which had recovered completely, and said incredulously, "So fast?"
"Of course, these are minor injuries for a cat demon. I once hunted a rampaging wild boar with my mother..."
While Shen Yi'an was in a daze, Yun Jin hugged him tightly and pressed his head against her chest.
The sudden hug startled Shen Yi'an. His voice was muffled as he said, "Yun Jin, this is the first time I've realized how strong your grip is."
Yun Jin smiled, lowered her head and placed a kiss on his forehead, the moonlight, like a silver veil, enveloping the two of them.
Her voice was soft: "Shen Yi'an, take a deep breath, don't try to control them, relax, don't fight your body, they've already reached their limit, haven't they?"
Shen Yi'an's hand slowly fell to his sides.
Yun Jin continued, "Shen Yi'an... can you hear my heartbeat?"
Shen Yi'an looked up at Yun Jin in surprise, then obediently closed his eyes and focused all his senses on his ears.
"Thump...thump...thump"
The heartbeat emanated from his chest, steady and powerful, each beat resonating in Shen Yi'an's ears, dispelling the noise in his mind.
“I heard it…” he murmured, his voice becoming muffled, “in my ear…it was a very strong heartbeat.”
As Shen Yi'an's attention shifted, Yun Jin felt the tense body in her arms gradually relax, and the originally rapid breathing slowly became steady and long.
Yun Jin held his arm, her grip loosening slightly, and the embrace transformed from a restraint into a genuine embrace.
The night was so quiet, with the rustling of leaves in the wind outside the window, mixed with the chirping of insects.
Yun Jin looked up at the bright moon hanging in the sky, its cool light shining on her face, while Shen Yi'an in her arms fell into a peaceful sleep.
——
The next day, just as dawn was breaking, Yun Jin quietly got out of bed and found herself in the kitchen facing a pot of dark, murky stuff, unsure of what to do.
Yun Jin originally intended to make porridge for Shen Yi'an, but looking at the plain porridge recipe on her phone, and remembering that Shen Yi'an had lost a little over a billion pounds of blood last night, she had a sudden inspiration and added some pig's blood, pig's liver, and red dates...
The result was that after a flurry of activity, the bottom of the pot was already burnt into a mushy mess.
Yun Jin sadly realized a fact: she couldn't cook. When she lived with Yun Chen, Yun Chen always cooked. Now that she was with Shen Yi'an, Shen Yi'an cooked, and she had hardly ever been in the kitchen.
Looking at the pot of culinary disaster, Yun Jin pondered for a while before turning her gaze to the various instant food products in the cupboard.
Thanks to the rapid development of humankind and the wide variety of convenient foods available.
Yun Jin was genuinely impressed. In just a few minutes, she had actually prepared several kinds of breakfasts that looked quite decent.
Just then, Yun Jin heard a slight noise coming from Shen Yi'an's room. Thinking that Shen Yi'an should be awake by now, Yun Jin brought the breakfast inside.
"Shen Yi'an, I'm in. I made it for you today..."
Before Yun Jin could finish speaking, she saw Shen Yi'an facing her, trying to change his clothes, but because of the injury on his arm, he couldn't exert any force, and half of his clothes sleeve got stuck, leaving him frozen in an awkward position.
Shen Yi'an struggled, his face flushed, and looked at Yun Jin with pleading eyes. Yun Jin put down what she was holding and quickly straightened Shen Yi'an's clothes.
"Why didn't you call me? I was in the kitchen right next door!" Yun Jin sat down on the edge of the bed. "Be careful of your wound!"
"Uh... I'm a little embarrassed." Shen Yi'an avoided Yun Jin's gaze and muttered softly, "I wanted to show you a tall and reliable image, but now it's all ruined."
"Don't be like this, Shen Yi'an," Yun Jin shook her head and handed the porridge to Shen Yi'an. "How did you sleep last night? How's your wound?"
“I slept well last night and dreamed about you. It was a good dream,” Shen Yi’an said, lowering his head to hide the smile on his lips. “Because you were by my side, my wound healed overnight. You can see for yourself.”
“Really?” Yun Jin chose to directly pinch Shen Yi’an’s bandaged arm.
"Ouch—it hurts! You, you really pinched me?" Shen Yi'an was caught off guard and almost spilled the porridge in his hand in pain, but luckily Yun Jin was quick-witted and steadied him.
Yun Jin covered her mouth and laughed, "Didn't you say that? I was just listening to you!"
Breakfast time has passed just like that.
After Shen Yi'an finished his last bite, Yun Jin cleared away the dishes, stood up, crossed her arms, and looked at Shen Yi'an with an air of authority.
"Alright, you've had breakfast, but you still haven't told me what happened yesterday."
Shen Yi'an sighed; there was no escaping it after all.
