Shen Yi'an's hand stopped abruptly. He looked up at Yun Jin with some confusion: "What's wrong?"

Yun Jin thought for a moment, but still couldn't directly say that Qi Qi was a male monster, so she had to bite the bullet and say, "Because Qi Qi doesn't want to."

Upon hearing this, Shen Yi'an's eyes suddenly lit up, filled with admiration: "Yun Jin, can you talk to dogs? That's amazing!"

Do you have your own language? Can I learn it?

"Uh... this is hard to accept, anyway, I just can't teach you." Yun Jin thought to herself why Shen Yi'an's focus was always so strange.

“Alright.” Shen Yi’an sighed regretfully, “But sterilization is for Qi Qi’s own good. It can reduce the risk of contracting diseases and will correspondingly extend his lifespan, since he will be living here.”

Qiqi, who had been wagging its tail, immediately collapsed to the ground with a "thud" upon hearing Shen Yi'an's "death sentence," its ears drooping listlessly, and it kept making "whimpering" sounds.

"I'm sorry, Qiqi," Shen Yi'an said, squatting down and patting his head. "Don't be afraid, it'll be over soon, the surgery will be quick."

Qi Qi looked at Yun Jin with pleading eyes, her face saying, "If you don't save me, I'm doomed."

Yun Jin shook her head and looked away, indicating that she really couldn't help.

Yun Jin knew very well that because Shen Yi'an and the others treated Qi Qi like an ordinary dog, they would think that neutering was not a big deal.

If we tell them Qiqi's identity, I don't know if it's feasible. We still need to ask Qiqi's opinion. Besides, whether Shen Yi'an and the others will accept it is another matter.

The moon had quietly climbed up and hung in the dark sky. Outside the French windows was the pitch-black night, with only the occasional chirping of insects from the distant grass making the night even more silent.

After taking the medicine, Shen Yi'an lay down and fell asleep quickly after the medicine took effect.

Yun Jin refused Shen Yi'an's suggestion to sleep together, even though he didn't mean anything by it; he just liked the feel of cat fur.

So she chose to rest in a room next door, where she could also sort out her thoughts, since so much had happened in just a few days.

Night had fallen, and all was quiet.

After banishing Shen Yi'an from her mind, Yun Jin lay down and was about to fall asleep when she heard a rustling sound coming from the doorway, like the sound of some creature's claws scratching at the door.

Without a doubt, it must be Qiqi.

Yun Jin opened her eyes drowsily, glanced at the time on her phone—it was past 2 a.m. He really knew how to pick his time. A vein popped out on Yun Jin's forehead as she forced herself to get up and open the door for him.

Once back in human form, Qi Qi quickly squeezed into the room like a wall, even stepping on Yun Jin's foot, causing Yun Jin to cry out in pain.

But Qiqi walked straight in, which inevitably made Yun Jin's forehead bulge with another vein.

The door closed gently, shutting out the light from the motion-sensor lights in the hallway, leaving only the faint moonlight in the room.

Qi Qi looked serious, even with a sense of desperate determination. He lowered his voice and said, "If this... doesn't work, I'll have to leave."

Yun Jin sat back on the bed, yawning, unsurprised by his words; after all, it was the most direct way. "So where are you going? Back to the forest?"

"No," Qi Qi replied briefly, her eyes gleaming with a chilling light in the darkness, which inexplicably frightened Yun Jin.

"I'm looking for...someone."

"Is the person you're looking for located in this city?"

This answer piqued Yun Jin's curiosity and dispelled some of her sleepiness. Old monsters like this usually don't come to human settlements. Not only did he come, but he was also looking for someone. It was truly strange that he was looking for someone in such a large city.

Faced with Yun Jin's question, Qi Qi crossed his arms and used the same words Yun Jin had used to retort to him, saying slowly and deliberately, "I'm returning your words to you. It's none of your business."

He used the same tactic against him, and it worked well, temporarily silencing Yun Jin.

After a long while, Yun Jin finally loosened her fist and asked, "So you're planning to just run out and look for it?"

Qi Qi nodded silently, and a hint of sadness flashed in her eyes as she looked out the window, so much so that Yun Jin almost wondered if she was hallucinating from staying up all night.

“Listen, it’s dangerous for you to run away as a stray dog,” Yun Jin said slowly, glancing at her phone. “For example, dog dealers or management personnel.”

"Dog dealers? I do know them. What management personnel?" Qi Qi turned around and asked, puzzled.

“Stray animals will be caught. If they’re lucky, they’ll be sent to a rescue center. If they’re unlucky, they’ll be beaten to death,” Yun Jin said carefully, choosing her words precisely.

"Well, humans are such a hassle," Qiqi sighed. "So what do you think I should do?"

"Uh..." Yun Jin yawned again, "I don't know, I'm just letting you know out of kindness."

"Would you mind if I told Shen Yi'an and the others that you're a monster?" Yun Jin looked at Qi Qi with a serious expression.

"If I tell them, will they understand me?" Qiqi looked out the window again and shook her head. "Never mind, I can't believe I even have any hope for humanity..."

"That's true," Yun Jin replied softly.

After the room quieted down, it was quickly filled with an awkwardness that only applied to Yun Jin.

Seeing that Qiqi might stay until dawn, Yun Jin endured it all, but finally couldn't hold back any longer and spoke up: "Um, I..."

"Don't worry about me, I've made up my mind. I'm going out, and if there are any problems, I'll come back." Qi Qi suddenly said loudly and firmly.

"No, keep your voice down." Yun Jin really wanted to pull his vocal cords out. "Are you sick? Why are you so jumpy!"

After saying that, Qiqi darted out of the open window like a black lightning bolt.

Such speed! Then, only Yun Jin, who was left in the room, was left dumbfounded.

Oh well, what's done is done, I should just go to sleep.

Yun Jin pulled the covers up and prepared to go to sleep...

Damn! She was really sleepy, but Qiqi's sleep made her unable to fall asleep again.

"Qiqi, you'd better not appear in front of me again," Yun Jin thought bitterly.

——

"Knock knock knock".

The rhythmic knocking at the door in the early morning, mixed with Shen Yi'an's humming, woke Yun Jin up.

Last night, Qiqi kept her up until after six o'clock before she could fall asleep. After only a few hours of sleep, Yun Jin felt her temples throbbing.

"Yun Jin, are you awake? It's already past nine o'clock," came Shen Yi'an's energetic voice from outside the door, his hand still banging on the door. "If you don't come out soon, the noodles will get soggy."

With her head throbbing and a head full of morning grumpiness and anger, Yun Jin abruptly threw off the covers, rushed to the door, and flung it open with a "whoosh."

Shen Yi'an was startled by the lightning-fast opening of the door and subconsciously took a step back. But when he saw Yun Jin's disheveled hair and panda-like dark circles under her eyes, he was first stunned, and then couldn't help but laugh out loud.

"Yun Jin, hahaha... Do you know what? You look like an angry panda right now."

“Shen Yi’an, you…”

Hearing his laughter made Yun Jin even angrier. Not being able to sleep was bad enough, but to be mocked like this made Yun Jin want to scratch Shen Yi'an's face.

But before she could speak, her vision suddenly went black, a wave of dizziness washed over her, her legs went weak, and she almost collapsed to the ground.

"Yun Jin!"

Shen Yi'an's laughter stopped abruptly, his expression changed, and he caught her quickly, pulling Yun Jin into a tight embrace. "Are you alright? Do you need to go to the hospital?"

Yun Jin leaned against him for a while to recover, and the darkness before her eyes slowly faded, but her head was still dizzy.

"It's nothing, I just didn't sleep well and then woke up too suddenly. I'll be fine after sitting for a bit," Yun Jin said weakly, bowing slightly.

Upon hearing this, Shen Yi'an breathed a sigh of relief, but was still worried. He picked Yun Jin up by the waist and gently placed her on the sofa.

"Go pour some hot water and get some sugar." Shen Yi'an touched Yun Jin's forehead. "Don't move around."

After drinking the warm sugar water, Yun Jin felt much better. "It was probably just a little low blood sugar in the morning, nothing serious."

"Really? Maybe you should go to the hospital to get it checked out," Shen Yi'an took the cup and poured some more hot water. "Yun Jin, how often do you get a physical exam?"

“Not even once,” Yun Jin thought for a moment. “After all, I’m a cat demon. If I go to the hospital and they find out something, I’ll be exposed.”

Upon hearing this, Shen Yi'an looked down at Yun Jin, his eyes filled with an unfathomable darkness. He asked softly, "Then what should we do if you get sick?"

“Actually, my health is quite good, and I’ve basically never had a serious illness,” Yun Jin paused and looked at Shen Yi’an.

"As for minor illnesses, my mother taught us how to find herbs, so there's no problem."

When her mother was mentioned, Yun Jin immediately thought of Yun Chen. It had been a long time since they had been in contact. She wondered how Yun Chen was doing.

Shen Yi'an sat on the sofa beside him, and asked thoughtfully, "Was your mother also a cat demon?"

Yun Jin nodded, looking at him with an expression that said, "What silly question are you asking?"

Shen Yi'an hesitated, then finally said, "Then...should I meet your mother, because..."

"No need, we don't have that tradition where I'm from, and besides, she's not here anymore." Yun Jin interrupted him decisively, her gaze fixed on the floor-to-ceiling window.

Shen Yi'an suddenly showed an expression of sympathy and guilt, and said somewhat embarrassedly, "Yun Jin, this is really..."

He subconsciously reached out to pat Yun Jin's shoulder, but then felt it was inappropriate and withdrew his hand. His tone was full of sincere apology: "I'm so sorry, Yun Jin, please accept my condolences."

Upon hearing Shen Yi'an's words, a vein silently appeared on Yun Jin's forehead.

“Chen-Yi-An,”

Yun Jin slowly turned her head, and said with a "kind" smile, "My mother is not here, geographically speaking, not in this city. What are you thinking?"

Shen Yi was stunned, then hurriedly apologized: "I'm sorry, Yun Jin, I had a momentary lapse of judgment, I'm so sorry."

Seeing his embarrassed and almost fuming state, Yun Jin found it amusing and closed her eyes to rest.

"Oh right, breakfast hasn't been brought over yet," Shen Yi'an exclaimed, followed by a series of hurried footsteps.

When the aroma of food wafted through the air, Yun Jin felt hungry. She sat up, picked up her chopsticks, and prepared to eat.

A questioning voice came from beside him: "Where's Qiqi? I haven't seen it this morning."

"Oh no." Yun Jin's heart skipped a beat; she knew she wouldn't be able to eat breakfast in peace.
