video call
“He… went to pursue freedom.” Yun Jin silently looked away, gazing out the window, and said in a calm but helpless tone.
Shen Yi'an was stunned for a moment and didn't react. Then he got up and searched around the room, balcony and toilet, but he couldn't find Qi Qi.
He frowned and returned to the living room, his voice tinged with anxiety as he said, "Qiqi ran away? Yunjin, didn't you stop it?"
Upon hearing this, Yun Jin sighed, "I couldn't stop him, but the point isn't how he got out, the point is that he doesn't want to be sterilized."
Shen Yi'an was speechless for a moment, unable to utter a word for a long time. After a long while, he finally said, "Okay, I'll go tell Yan Fei."
He twirled his phone in his hand to wake the screen, but hesitated to make a call. Then he looked up at Yun Jin, a little troubled, and said, "How am I supposed to bring this up? I lost Qiqi..."
Yun Jin slurped up a mouthful of noodles and comforted Shen Yi'an, saying, "Perhaps his fate with Yan Fei can only end here. After all, Qi Qi was always a free person before."
“If you can communicate with Qiqi, you will know about Qiqi’s past.” Shen Yi’an turned off his phone screen.
Yun Jin shook her head: "I did ask him, but he didn't say anything. He only said that he used to live very freely in the forest."
"I'll just fool Shen Yi'an for now," Yun Jin thought, eating her noodles with her head down, glancing at him every now and then.
“Okay, what you said makes sense, but I don’t know how to tell Yan Fei.” Shen Yi’an tapped the black phone screen with his hand, making a rhythmic “tap-tap” sound.
Yun Jin suddenly remembered something, her face tightened, and she hurriedly said, "Hey! Shen Yi'an, don't tell Yan Fei about me!"
Upon hearing this, Shen Yi'an's expression relaxed, and he looked at Yun Jin with a gentle yet firm gaze: "Of course I know that. I will protect your secret with my life and not let anyone else know."
Seeing Shen Yi'an's serious expression, Yun Jin breathed a sigh of relief and felt a warm current in her heart. She quickly gave Shen Yi'an a thumbs up and winked playfully.
Upon receiving her praise, Shen Yi'an immediately straightened his back, raised his head slightly, and adopted a smug and arrogant demeanor.
By the time Yun Jin finished eating her noodles, Shen Yi'an had almost finished thinking about what to say.
“I’m leaving,” Shen Yi’an stood up. “I’m going to talk to Yan Fei about Qi Qi.”
"Go ahead, I'll wash the dishes," Yun Jin replied.
This morning passed by in a chaotic mess.
Yun Jin sat down on the sofa in the living room. She was already drenched in sweat after just washing the dishes. Yun Jin looked at the weather forecast and realized that the temperature wasn't very high today.
Picking up the air conditioner remote and turning it to the lowest setting, the cool air dispelled some of the heat. Yun Jin lay lazily on the sofa, habitually picking up her phone and scrolling through it.
When her finger swiped over a familiar icon, muscle memory made Yun Jin click on it directly.
The account interface of "Yunmiaomiao's Daily Life" popped up, and what caught my eye was the number of fans, which had obviously declined due to a long period of inactivity, and the few interaction notifications.
It's only been less than half a year, but so many things have happened that it feels like several years have passed. So much time has passed that the account to which Yun Jin once poured so much effort has become unfamiliar.
I remember when I first started operating this account, the first video I posted didn't get a single click, which made Yun Jin really doubt her life. It took a week for things to get better.
Once she's seen, people will pay attention to her. Gaining even one follower makes Yun Jin cheer with joy, while losing even one follower makes her feel like the sky is falling and life has no meaning.
At that time, this account was a false and fragile window through which Yun Jin connected with the outside world, and it brought Yun Jin a great deal of benefits.
The current timing is perfect for making this account bigger and stronger, but Yun Jin doesn't want it anymore.
After experiencing so much, Yun Jin's perspective on the world has changed. She still wants to face the world as her true self.
While cute virtual outfits are appealing and can garner a lot of affection, that affection is ultimately virtual.
Yun Jin logged out of her account, turned off her phone screen, and tossed it aside.
The air conditioner was blowing air, and she closed her eyes, feeling the peace within her. Learning to let go is also a form of growth.
"Buzz buzz buzz..."
The continuous vibration of her phone woke Yun Jin from her nap with her eyes closed. She fumbled around for a while before finally finding her phone in the gap between the sofa and the sofa. When she turned it on, she saw that it was a video call from Yun Chen.
Yun Jin took a deep breath, adjusted her expression, and then pressed the answer button. Yun Chen's face immediately appeared on the screen.
"Hey sis, what are you doing? Why don't you call me?"
On the other end of the video call, Yun Chen seemed to be in a hotel, but not the previous hotel room. She was eating with chopsticks while making a video call.
Yun Jin quickly sat up, trying to appear natural: "It's nothing, I've just been a bit busy lately..."
However, before he could finish speaking, Yun Chen interrupted him.
"Wait, am I seeing things? What are you doing at Shen Yi'an's house?!"
Yun Chen dropped her chopsticks on the ground with a "clatter," but she didn't care. Instead, she suddenly pulled her phone closer and stared in shock.
"Because that variety show will be filmed soon, I can arrange rehearsals with Shen Yi."
Yun Jin guiltily looked away, because Yun Chen's eyes were now filled with murderous intent, which was frightening. Yun Jin silently swallowed.
"No..." Yun Chen bent down to pick up the chopsticks, tossed them into the trash can without even looking at them, her attention no longer on the food. "How did you end up in Shen Yi'an's house in human form?"
"Well... because of this and that... after that happened, we... ended up together like this." Yun Jin felt saddened by her poor language skills, and after thinking for a long time, she could only squeeze out this flower language.
"So, you two are already in a relationship? Is it that hasty? Sis, do you have any sense left? You..." After hearing this, Yun Chen's doubt turned into disbelief, and his sharp eyes pierced Yun Jin through the screen.
Yun Jin felt as if she were being roasted under a spotlight, her body growing smaller and smaller, wishing she could disappear into a crack in the ground.
She knew that relying solely on her own ability to express herself would only make things worse, so she raised the white flag early on, wanting to end this terrible trial.
"Alright...alright, I'll tell you in detail when you come back, really..." Yun Jin quickly changed the subject to divert attention, "When are you coming back? It should be around that time."
Yun Chen sighed on the other end of the phone screen and said slowly, "When Qi Yu accompanied me into the mountains the day before yesterday, he accidentally broke his leg. I can't just leave right away, so I plan to stay with him for a while and go back later."
"Okay." Yun Jin breathed a sigh of relief for some reason.
“However, I won’t be staying here for long,” Yun Chen added, seeing her like this. “When I get back, I want to know everything that happened, sis!”
"I will report to you everything that happened while you were away, sir." Yun Jin deliberately made a salute, which made Yun Chen's serious expression relax slightly.
Just as the atmosphere had eased a bit, Yun Chen seemed to suddenly remember something and said, "Oh right, I have a few packages arriving, and I might need you to go back and pick them up for me."
Yun Jin raised an eyebrow and asked curiously, "What is it? If it's snacks, you won't be able to wait for it when you get back."
Yun Chen kept everyone in suspense, a mysterious expression on his face, and shook his head: "You'll know when we get there."
Just as Yun Jin was about to hang up, Yun Chen on the other end of the video call exclaimed "Hey!", brought the phone closer, and stared intently at the screen.
"What's wrong? Is there something else that's keeping you on the phone?" Yun Jin imitated her, bringing the phone closer and looking at Yun Chen's big face.
Yun Chen frowned slightly and asked with some concern, "Sis, is it hot where you are? Your face has been red the whole time."
Only after Yun Chen said that did Yun Jin belatedly realize that she felt a little uncomfortable. She raised her hand to touch her forehead and found that it was a little hot.
"Hmm, do you? I think I have a slight fever. I didn't rest well today, I might have caught a cold,"
Upon seeing Yun Jin, Yun Chen realized he seemed to be sick, and his tone became serious: "Big sister, you need to take good care of yourself. How can someone not even know they're sick? It's really worrying."
"Are you still using the air conditioner? Don't turn it too low, take your medicine properly, and get some rest..." Yun Chen's nagging tone was like that of a worried old mother, which made Yun Jin find it somewhat amusing.
"It's nothing, just a minor illness. Your older sister is in great health." Yun Jin straightened her back and proudly patted her chest.
Seeing Yun Jin like this, Yun Chen could only sigh: "Alright then, I'll hang up. Sis, you must get some rest."
"It's okay, it's okay." Yun Jin smiled and hung up the phone.
As she prepared to get up, she felt dizzy again. "Never mind," Yun Jin thought, "Shen Yi'an will be back soon. I'll ask him to get the thermometer for me."
After adjusting her position on the sofa several times without finding a comfortable one, Yun Jin thought for a moment and simply transformed back into her cat form, curling up in a corner of the sofa.
Feeling much better, Yun Jin yawned and drifted off to sleep.
Just a few minutes after closing his eyes, Shen Yi'an rushed back to the living room like a gust of wind, his face still showing lingering fear. He muttered to himself, "Yan Fei looked like he was going to eat me alive. I had to beg and plead with him to calm me down. It was terrifying..."
He rambled on and on, expecting Yun Jin to comfort him, but no one responded for a long time.
Shen Yi'an glanced at the sofa and saw a beautiful calico cat curled up in a fluffy ball, fast asleep, its belly rising and falling with its breath.
Shen Yi'an was stunned for a moment, then chuckled and slowed his pace.
"Little Yunjin, why did you turn back?" Shen Yi'an carefully held Yunjin in his arms and secretly touched her nose with his hand. "Sleeping so soundly? And making smacking noises with your lips."
Just as Shen Yi'an was enjoying Yun Jin's adorable appearance, Yun Jin suddenly spoke up, startling him, "Shen Yi'an, you're so hot, I can't sleep well."
“Damn, don’t talk like that, it’s scary,” Shen Yi’an said. “I’m fine, it’s your thick fur that’s making you hot.”
"Hey, Yun Jin, do you have a fever?"
