Chapter 18 Guardian, but the Cat [The End] Starfall looked on...

Chapter 18 Guardian, but the Cat [The End] Starfall looked on...

Starfall watched as the guardians, like tiny black dots, attacked around the enormous octopus monster.

Two months have passed since Ethan took on the role of a guardian as a cat. The guardians were not used to it at first, and because Ethan is childlike and does some nonsensical things, it took them quite a while to get used to it.

Two months have passed, and Ethan has integrated fairly well, participating in several battles. However, he occasionally wonders why his colleagues have stopped petting him. He clearly stated that he could continue, as the kitten likes it.

Guardian colleagues: "..."

Petting a colleague is a bit too presumptuous. It would be fine if you weren't a colleague, but the problem is you are, not just an ordinary cat.

Ethan used magic to conjure a giant hammer and chased after the octopus monster, but finding it didn't do much damage, he switched to other different offensive weapons.

Perhaps tired from fighting, Ethan looked around at the octopus tentacles that were constantly swaying, and when he found that no one was paying attention, he curiously bit into them.

Then I was disgusted by the slippery feeling and had to spit it out several times before I recovered.

Xingyun watched the entire process from the rooftop of a distant building.

Starfall: "..."

This poor thing, so curious, it wants to bite into everything. Don't you only like to eat the cat food your Selene mom makes?

After spitting out his insult, Ethan pretended to be busy so that his colleagues wouldn't discover what he had just done. He then conjured up several magic circles, and black tentacles wrapped around the octopus. Ethan manipulated sharp weapons to give the octopus monster acupuncture, and deep blue blood sprayed everywhere.

Blood even splattered on Ethan. Ethan shook it off in disgust, but couldn't get it off, so he decided to take a shower after he finished fighting.

"I don't think I'll want to see an octopus for a while," Carter said, dodging the blood spurting out as Ethan pierced the octopus, while healing his colleagues and complaining to Tenas beside him.

Tenas wiped his face. He was one of the lucky ones who had been splattered with blood. His face was covered in blue blood, with no trace of his original skin color.

Turner understood perfectly and nodded in agreement with Carter's complaint; he didn't want to see it, whether it was raw or cooked.

God knows he just didn't close his mouth properly, and the blood went straight into his mouth. The overly fishy and foul smell made him nauseous, and his mouth still tastes like that. He's starting to have a phobia of octopuses.

Starfall watched their battle for a long time before finally uttering a comment: "Child's play."

Did they use this place for team building?

They're even chatting during battle? Although this monster isn't strong, it's just tough.

But aren't you guys being a little too relaxed? Shouldn't you be aiming for a quick victory? Are you treating this like a game?

And you, Ethan. I don't even want to talk about Starfall anymore. I wonder when he'll ever break his habit of eating random things out of curiosity. Eating everything will only hurt you.

"I'll prepare bitter melon for you when we get back," Xingyun thought, utterly devoid of compassion.

"Don't be so harsh~" A voice that disgusted Xingyun came from behind. Xingyun turned around and found that all the city's wills had gathered on the rooftop. The one who spoke was Yangyan.

"How come I didn't know you guys had so much free time?" Starfall rarely saw the City Wills gathered together except for parties, so he asked, "What's up?"

“You still didn’t respond to the party last time.” Novigrad said succinctly, “You haven’t attended a party in 20 years, and we happen to have some questions for you—like your choice of a cat as your guardian.”

"I never expected Hoshigami-chan to have such unique ideas." Kagerou chuckled, leaning closer to Hoshigami, her body almost touching his. "I was stunned when I heard the news. Hoshigami-chan is the first city to choose a non-human species as its guardian!"

Xingyun nimbly dodged, then kicked her in the process, watching her go downstairs. The other city wills were used to it and didn't express any opinions. Xingyun hated Yangyan so much that killing her wasn't a new thing.

“There’s not much to say.” Starfall didn’t want to explain why he chose Ethan: “The selection of guardians is not limited to humans, and my guardian selection also passed him.”

Other cities didn't dare to ask too many questions, and each of them just looked thoughtful.

Animal guardians? That's interesting. Maybe they could be elected in the future?

No, they don't have that many magic-based abilities, unlike Starfall, who can use magic to help animal guardians learn the common sense and combat skills they should know.

Some restless urban wills had no choice but to abandon their ideas.

"That Xingyun is really something." Yangyan flew up and landed lightly next to Xingyun, complaining sweetly, "He doesn't even give way to girls at all."

“Are you a woman? Then call me that.” Starfall sneered: “Who here doesn’t know that your usual body type is male? Putting aside the fact that cities don’t have genders, in human understanding, you’re a transvestite.”

"How outrageous!" Yang Yan made a pitiful expression as if she had been verbally attacked, but it did not soften the hearts of the city's wills in the slightest. The city's wills looked at her disgusting starfall with calm, almost indifferent eyes.

Xingyun didn't want to look at her anymore, so she pushed her down again.

Then, the city's will turned its attention to the battle of their guardians. By this time, the battle was nearing its end; the octopus monster twitched one last time and then fell silent.

The guardians all looked disheveled, covered in large amounts of blue blood, and smelled strongly of it, appearing quite disgusted.

"Meow~" Ethan flew towards Starfall, ignoring how filthy he was, and threw himself into Starfall's arms. "Mommy!"

"Meow?" Ethan snuggled against Starfall's arms. "Mommy, why have you turned into a man?"

The other city spirits could actually understand animal language, but they all pretended not to hear it, not to understand it, and not to recognize it. What is Xingyun doing? Isn't he just holding a cat? What mother? They don't know.

In his heart, he thought, "Starfall actually has this hobby? Isn't he spoiling his guardian a bit too much?" He had just said that Yang Yan, who deliberately transformed into a female body to tease Tenas, was a transvestite, and now his guardian was calling him "Mom" and asking him why he had turned into a man.

Does that mean that when they were together, Xingyun was in a woman's body? It's terrifying to think about, I don't dare to think too much about it, for fear that if I think too much, Xingyun will teach them to be good city wills.

"...It's filthy." Starfall was silent for a few seconds, then transformed into a female form: "You're mistaken."

"Meow!" Ethan cried out in dissatisfaction. "I didn't see wrong! And I'm not dirty."

Starfall glanced at the dust and blue blood from the fight but didn't say anything. He just silently snapped his fingers, and Ethan instantly looked as fresh and clean as if he had just taken a shower.

Ethan stopped talking and whimpered as he found a comfortable spot in Starfall's arms.

The city's will now not only has to pretend to be deaf, but also to pretend to be blind.

They looked at the sky and the ground but dared not look at Xingjiu. However, this was the first time they had seen Xingjiu's female form. It was so novel, but it was indeed too much of a pampering of the guardian.

"Didn't you just call me a transvestite?" Yang Yan flew up again, looking at Xing Yun and questioning him coldly.

Xingyun's response was to cover Ethan's eyes, who was looking at her curiously, while simultaneously setting up a soundproof barrier to prevent Ethan from hearing. She then gently waved her finger at Yangyan, causing Yangyan to explode.

"If there's nothing else, I'll be going now." Xingyun said this and went back with the cat in her arms. The other cities didn't dare to stop her; they also realized that Xingyun seemed a bit too shrewd.

After that battle, they enjoyed a period of peace.

Starfall finally agreed to teach Ethan the magic to turn into a human. Ethan learned very quickly because he couldn't wait to see Selene and instantly transformed into human form.

With a "bang," the white mist dissipated, leaving only a child, no more than ten years old, standing there naked.

As expected, Starfall handed him a set of clothes, which Ethan put on and then draped a cloak over himself.

"Can I find my mom now?" Ethan asked expectantly, clutching Xingyun's clothes.

Starfall had no reason to refuse, and a few seconds later, there was a knock on the door of the Selene family's house.

Selene opened the door and found a long-haired boy who stammered, "Mommy!"

Selene neatly closed the door and went back to doing her own thing. Whose child is lost here?

There was another knock on the door. This time, the boy was a little different from the previous one. He had two fluffy ears on his head, and a black tail swayed behind him.

This time, Selene hesitated slightly: "...Ethan?"

Selene didn't know why she blurted out Ethan's name, but she couldn't help but think of Ethan, especially his eyes, which looked at her like they were when she came home from get off work.

"Mom!" Ethan rushed over, his eyes brimming with tears. "It's me, Mom."

Selene froze at first, then looked on in disbelief, her voice trembling uncontrollably: "...Ethan?"

“Let’s go inside.” Ethan pulled Selene into the house and explained to him everything that had happened since then.

Selene was moved to tears when she got her back, but it wasn't until she heard that he had become a guardian that she realized Ethan had said that the other mother should be the will of the Starfall City... Isn't the will of the Starfall City male?

Even if Selene was worried that Ethan was too dangerous and objected, it was no use. Almost three months had passed, and she had heard that the guardians of Starfall City had gone through several battles.

At first, the people of Starfall City found it absurd that the guardian was a cat, but the guardian did indeed have some skills, and the complaints subsided.

Selene still found it absurd that Starfall would send Ethan to save the world, exploiting the cats!

Ethan adapted to his human form quickly, spending all his time sticking close to Selene, Starfall, Bertha, and everyone else.

At first, when he used his human form to go to the Guardians of the League, his wary colleagues thought he was an intruder. But when Ethan sat back down in his seat and took out the token to explain, everyone realized that he had learned the magic to turn into human form.

People accepted it quickly. Compared to having to guess and make connections with Ethan the cat, communicating with Ethan who can talk is so much more convenient.

A note from the author:

----------------------

I got really into browsing Kuaishou (a Chinese video-sharing website), and that's why I had such a great time tonight.

Because I want to write the main content, this outline mentions that I'll also be writing about animal guardians in the future [starry-eyed emoji].
