Chapter 23 Starfall wanted to kill Ethan. Starfall felt that this world...
Xingyun felt as if the world was playing a huge joke on him.
One day, he suddenly learned that he was just a character in a book, a supporting character whose purpose was to provide help to the "protagonist," the character truly loved by the creator who created them.
To be honest, he was furious.
Over the course of so many years, he experienced so much, and had no choice but to coexist with that despicable Yang Yan as the city's will.
Now you're suddenly telling him that all the suffering he's endured was actually created by the Creator in a single thought? That the Creator just wanted to see his tragic past, wanted to create a mental illness in him, and then have the "protagonist" heal him.
It's ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.
This world is an illusion; everything is changed in the blink of an eye by the Creator, even things that contradict their own nature. If the Creator desires a certain outcome, they will be manipulated and forced to act according to His design.
Starfall understands that other universes are not like this one, full of superpowers. They are ordinary and commonplace, without any strange superpowers or incarnations of city wills.
And what about the world?
Because of the creators' love for them, they possess special abilities, such as the ability to fly, move freely, control objects, and even use magic, allowing them to access larger and more unfamiliar systems.
Their appearance and personality are all based on the creator's preferences. In fact, a character will not be named or have its settings finalized until it is about to appear in a scene. Even their appearance is decided on the spot.
You won't know what you look like until the other person has decided on their gender, appearance, and name, and they will implant incorrect memories in you.
His own preferences and habits are all subject to His absolute authority.
For example, does Starfall himself really like potions? Isn't it just because the creator suddenly had the idea to add the setting that he can maintain the "protagonist's" body through potions? Is he really proficient in potions?
Does he really like using male bodies? Is he really that good at magic? He seems to be physically stronger, so why was he set up as a magic user? Is it because the ridiculous so-called "protagonist" was given magical elements to perfect him, and given his stupid nature, he needed a mentor, so Starfall was born.
Ethan Nix just needs an unreserved devotee, a mentor, an older and more experienced, inclusive presence who loves his child more than the Creator.
His existence was solely to serve one person.
No! It's not just him! The entire world, so many people, are all born to serve him and to advance his storyline.
Realizing this, Xingyun felt a chill run through her body, experiencing for the first time in such a concrete way the coldness felt by humans.
I want to kill him, I want to kill him so badly.
We can't let him influence everyone anymore. We have to kill him. If we can kill him sooner, maybe everyone can escape our control. Xingyun doesn't want to live a life of being controlled. He wants to live freely, instead of being restricted by the system and obediently being a disgusting existence who is cold-hearted and only shows a soft side to the "protagonist".
Starfall decides to kill Ethan.
He was not the one who suffered the most.
Selene Nix, the mother of the "protagonist," is a tragic woman in the story who sees her child as the pillar of her life.
Did she really willingly endure domestic violence from a scumbag for the sake of a child? During those long years, did she never have the thought of abandoning him and leaving?
Her thinking is really too indecisive. She could have taken her child and fled the city. The gang that associates with scumbags is based in Starfall City, and their influence doesn't extend to other cities. Or she could have simply left the country altogether.
Starfall was not a mother, a human being, or even an ordinary being who grew up, so he simply could not understand why Selene had endured so many years of hardship, nor could he empathize with her difficulties; he only felt sorry for her.
If she didn't have Ethan, and a child who could hold her back, there's no doubt her life would be infinitely better than it is now.
Therefore, Starfall believes that Ethan is the source of misfortune, and everyone would be much better off without him.
Xingyun couldn't bear the thought of having to take care of a mentally immature brat. Oh right, he's an adult, but it feels like his mental age could be reduced by ten years; he's like a moron.
Is he some kind of babysitter? Why would someone like him take care of a mentally challenged toddler? Does he really seem to have that much patience? Or is this just another patience trope added by the creators?
Xingyun felt nauseous and wanted to vomit again. It felt like Yangyan was pretending to be weak in front of him, trying to get close to him with her female body, which disgusted him.
Speaking of Kagerou, wasn't she created to annoy him?
Despite all these years having passed, Yang Yan has always lived in the body of a strong, adult male. But whenever she encounters Tenas, who is from the same generation as Ethan, she becomes bewitched, constantly transforming into a woman and using various methods to seduce him in order to relieve her own feelings.
Are you serious? And speaking of Tenas, I don't know his name at all? It seems the Creator didn't give surnames to anyone except His favorite, Ethan.
It's one thing that they are the embodiment of the city's will, but none of them—Tenas, Reina, Nadia Bertha—have their own surnames.
Speaking of Bertha, a figure of considerable influence in the Wizarding Association with many outstanding individuals in her own faction, she surprisingly found Ethan's social anxiety disorder endearing, comparing him to a pet. She even deemed him trustworthy and proceeded to introduce him to her network of contacts.
Having him as a caring guardian paternal figure, the "strongest version of the city's will," isn't enough; he also wants to take in the other party's talent. He's truly a wonderful bloodsucker.
Tell me, is this normal? It's so outrageous that even Starfall is too lazy to criticize the creator Venom. They've stopped acting and everyone is just serving the "protagonist."
Disgusting, so disgusting.
As Xingyun thought about it, a murderous intent surged in his chest, and he wished he could kill this useless "Child of the World" right now.
I really couldn't stand it anymore, so Starfall opened a portal and locked onto Ethan's side.
Ethan Nix, that stupid, mentally challenged brat, was licking ice cream on the roadside, his mouth was covered in it, and even the tip of his nose had some ice cream on it.
Did the creators think this "protagonist" was cute? Did they expect readers to think Ethan was silly and cute for eating ice cream so carelessly, even getting it on his nose?
"Even ice cream can make you look like this, what a useless piece of trash." Xingyun sneered inwardly.
Ethan saw Starfall, snapped out of his reverie while eating his ice cream, and asked somewhat bewilderedly, "Lord Starfall?"
"Lord Starfall, you're calling me so intimately." Starfall felt a surge of disgust. All the other guardians addressed him respectfully as "Lord City," but he was the only one making an exception.
Without wasting words, Starfall transformed his right hand into a claw, intending to snap Ethan's neck directly, too lazy to waste time chatting with an idiot.
But his hand was held down. When Xingyun turned his head, he saw a face exactly like his own, but the person in the face didn't smile.
"Open your eyes and take a good look. Is this your Ethan? You want to kill him?" Another starfall was emanating black energy, as if black roses were about to bloom. He pointed at a black cat lazily sunbathing on a park bench: "That's your Ethan. Don't be so possessive of other people's Ethans. You're part of my timeline's storyline! I have no objections, but you do?"
Starfall paused, ah, so Ethan from his world was a cat after all?
"Here you go." The other Ethan finished the last of his ice cream in a few bites, wiped his hands, picked up the pile of Ethan Cat Cookies on the chair, handed them to Starfall, and then obediently retreated to the other Starfall's side.
“I understand your anger. You want to get rid of the creator's favorites and free everyone from the plot's control. I wanted to do the same when I awakened my memories, because I won't tolerate anyone stepping on my head.” Another Starfall member's expression was still terrible: “But could you check first next time? If I wasn't here today, were you going to crush my Ethan's body into mincemeat and scatter his soul?”
Ethan, the living dead next to him, pretended not to hear. The previous adjustment with Lord Starfall, who had awakened his memories, was truly a disaster. Luckily, he almost suffered a fate worse than death.
The meteorite was merely rigid, allowing its counterpart to express its dissatisfaction using language that avoided insulting either side, since it was all itself.
"Meow—" Ethan the cat shifted uncomfortably in his arms, making soft, whimpering noises as if complaining about the stiff embrace.
As if by some strange twist of fate, Starfall transformed into a female body, and Ethan the cat finally stopped moving around, simply resting his head on Starfall's shoulder and basking in the sun. The weather was so nice.
The other starfall voice disappeared, and when the starfall looked up, it found the other person's gaze to be complex and intriguing.
Xingyun: “…”
No, she didn't. She wasn't bewitched by Ethan the cat. She wouldn't soften her heart just because Ethan in this world is a cat.
"Be careful next time." That was all the other Starfall said before opening a portal and taking his Ethan with him away, presumably back to their own world.
Only Starfall and Ethan were left staring at each other in bewilderment.
Starfall mechanically put him down. Ethan yawned after his legs touched the ground, wagged his tail and circled around Starfall a few times, sniffing here and there. Finally, he rubbed against Starfall's ankle and wrapped his wagging tail around her calf.
Xingyun: “…”
Starfall: "I won't get along well with the 'protagonist'."
Ethan the cat stared at her with his innocent, big cat eyes, as if he couldn't understand her words and was curiously asking for an explanation.
Starfall: "Never mind, you're just a cat, you can't ask for too much."
A note from the author:
----------------------
First, I confess. I know I didn't handle the character settings well. Selene is a sore point, and Starfall and Bertha's inexplicable trust and indulgence of Ethan is also a major misunderstanding. [It's my limited ability that led to their poor presentation.] [It's true, none of them have names yet.]
In this chapter, Xingyun's insults towards Ethan and his evaluations of other characters contain his anger and other personal emotions stemming from knowing he's just a fictional character. If you really think Ethan is mentally challenged, it's just that I portrayed him as mentally challenged; feel free to criticize me. [clasped hands] The more I think about it, the worse it all seems.
Starfall: Is this your child? You want to kill him? Your child is nothing but a beast!
When I get writer's block, I use side stories to help me recover. How do I recover from this kind of writer's block? [fearful]
