Chapter 49 still has some beautiful moments from school and the Starfall...
Good times always fly by, and before we knew it, it was time to get out of school.
For Ethan, the day went by so fast; it felt like school was over in the blink of an eye, perhaps because school ended at 3 p.m.
Stella was overly enthusiastic. During breaks, she dragged him around to show him around the campus, took him to the cafeteria for meals, and even asked him if he needed to use the restroom, which she then took him to.
Ethan: "..."
Ethan: "Thanks, but it's not necessary."
But I have to say, it was a really great experience overall. Ethan was even a little reluctant to leave school. Why did school end so early?! Can't he leave a little later since he's not coming tomorrow?
While Stella was preoccupied, Ethan used a portal to teleport to people he had met or remembered that day, casting confusing magic on them so that they would feel that 'Ethan' was with them at school for the rest of the day.
In the end, only Stella remained. Ethan patiently waited at the door for Stella to part ways with her friends.
"How about I take you to a really good restaurant around here tomorrow?" Stella suggested with a bright smile as they walked side by side.
“Of course.” Ethan looked at her, paused, and thought to himself that in his memory we would eat together.
“Then it’s a deal!” Stella’s smile became even brighter.
"Hmm." Ethan responded softly, brushing his stray hairs behind his ear. At the same time, his hand flashed a white light inconspicuously, which entered Stella's head.
Once he and Stella are separated, the magic will slowly influence their perception. In their memories, transfer student Ethan will attend classes as usual tomorrow and will accompany Stella to a well-reviewed restaurant.
On the way here, Tenas told Ethan that there was a bus near the school that could take him to the apartment. Instead of choosing the convenient and quick teleportation portal, Ethan experienced a normal day of taking the bus to and from school.
When he returned to his apartment, he felt inexplicably disappointed.
Some things are ruined. Today was too good, and I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Ethan is feeling a bit unwell.
Soon, he had no time to deal with the withdrawal symptoms, because when he returned to the alternate dimension and found his desk full of documents, he felt a special sense of peace.
Peace of mind equals death of the heart; the heart stops beating.
"How was school today?" While Ethan was engrossed in his work and battling with his documents, Starfall watched him from behind for a while before finally speaking.
“It’s quite ordinary, quite different from what we have here.” Ethan didn’t even look up, his pen flying across the paper.
"Anything else? What's the difference?"
"The students were very nice; they didn't resort to violence, false accusations, expulsions, or the kind of things we do here, which ruin people's reputations," Ethan said casually.
“You like it very much.” Xingyun noticed his unusual state and changed her question into a statement.
“Yes.” Ethan readily admitted, “I can occasionally go to school for a day as a reward. You really can’t hide anything from Lord Starfall. It’s just that I feel a little bit of the wonderful unreality.”
“I see…” Xingyun’s tone was somewhat ambiguous: “Don’t you regret being a resident of Xingyun City instead of a resident of another city? The wonderful school days that you can’t even imagine are opportunities that others can easily reach, and don’t even cherish.”
"???" Ethan snapped out of his inexplicable gloom and looked at Starfall with some surprise: "How could that be? Lord Starfall, although I am envious, I have never thought that way. Wherever my mother goes, I will stay and live there. My mother has never left this city, and I have always grown up in this city, so I would never have such extreme thoughts."
The oppressive aura emanating from Starfall vanished instantly, and he also felt the rows of dark, unidentified entities hovering around him disappear.
Ethan believed that no matter how much native Starfall City residents cursed the city, they would never have such a distorted and extreme idea as changing their household registration.
It's rotten as it is, and we've already cursed it, but it's impossible for it to actually leave. Starfall City is the happy base camp for the people of Starfall City, allowing people like them to live freely.
Therefore, Ethan thought it was absurd that Starfall thought he would want to become a resident of another city. He envied that at most, Starfall would cause trouble in the city to the extent of being outside, and improve the campus atmosphere, rather than choosing to leave.
Besides, he's already become a guardian. How can a guardian leave the city he's protecting?
Ethan thought it was all absurd. He knew very well that by becoming a Guardian, he was completely bound to Starfall. Since he was already in a state of death, unless his spirit and everything else were completely destroyed, there probably wouldn't be a next Guardian for a while.
So Ethan gave Starfall a strange look, but didn't say anything and went back to his work.
Starfall: "..."
Okay, I'm overthinking it.
In the past, he wouldn't have asked the guardians such a stupid question, because the guardians were all from outside the city, not born in his city. Why should he care if they left or not? It never was.
But Ethan is special.
Unlike other Guardians who are too lazy to remember names, Ethan does many things personally after becoming a Guardian, such as teaching others how to be a Guardian.
All sorts of knowledge, potions, industry rules, the role of the Wizarding Association, and so on.
Even Starfall had to admit that Ethan was special to him; his feelings for Ethan were obvious when he approached the amnesiac Selene.
Ethan, you don't have time to be happy about losing your scumbag father. A more knowledgeable, powerful, and mysterious emotional father/mother has appeared in front of you.
Given that Xingyun prefers using male bodies, let's just consider him an emotional father. Congratulations, you have both a mother and a father.
Once Xingyun understood this, she became confident and justified in everything she did.
Because he truly treats Ethan like a child, a child he loves, it's normal to care and worry that the child might prefer other cities.
If he truly falls for him, he won't let Ethan go, nor will he let the city's will, which he's fallen for, go. He'll kill it until it's willing to change the good qualities that Ethan likes.
Ethan, who was thinking that Starfall was still dueling with the documents, was unaware that Starfall was still working on them. Even if he had known, he would have remained silent for a moment and accepted it with equanimity.
This is not something that is hard to accept. Every city has some children that it prefers. There were already warnings that Xingyun would treat him like a child.
After that, Tenas didn't come to see him as frequently as before, probably because he was at school. He would go to the school every now and then to maintain the magic, and occasionally attend school for a few days. His life was quite comfortable.
It wasn't until the day after he reported that Turner remembered he didn't seem to really like wearing skirts and told him he could go to school to change.
So, to put it another way, he wore a skirt the day before and endured his thighs being chilly for so long because he actually had a choice?
Of course, he changed into pants afterward. He preferred pants to skirts and couldn't stand the overly cool feeling.
I occasionally went to school, and I never expected that I would become friends with Stella in my memory.
The magic was implanted with his personality, stuffing his personality traits into their minds, including the things that might happen and how he would deal with them. So the things they remember could very well have been done by Ethan.
Ethan was somewhat surprised and a little uncomfortable, because the person who truly became friends with Stella was not himself. Although the personality and other aspects of the Stella in his memory corresponded to himself, it was just a false memory, and he felt guilty when he was with her.
Moreover, Stella acted as if they had been best friends for ten years from the start, showing great intimacy and sharing all her secrets with Ethan, who could only keep quiet each time.
So he might feel a little awkward, but he tried his best not to let Stella notice anything unusual and to maintain his attitude as if they were now friends.
The days passed by uneventfully, but the monster doesn't care if you want to avoid an uneventful life.
So when Ethan took a rare day off to go to school, he received a message from the Guardian's communicator that monsters had appeared near Sunfire City and seemed to intend to invade the city. Sunfire City, being the first to be affected, was naturally the one closest to the monsters.
So, after the piercing alarm sounded, everyone left in an orderly manner, first escaping from areas that might be affected by the monsters, hiding themselves, and waiting for the guardians to finish off the monsters before returning.
Damage is unavoidable, but the government will help with some of the repairs. It's only part, but at least the people survived, right? the government stated.
As a guardian of Starfall City, which wasn't far away, Ethan naturally joined the battle quickly, fighting alongside several of his fellow guardians and the monster.
The monster was not difficult to defeat, and in less than an hour, the guardians won another great victory, winning cheers from everyone.
Ethan was no longer a rookie Guardian; he was already waiting for the post-war meeting, even hesitating whether he should speak or not.
It all depends on his mood. His fellow Guardians don't really like him, so it's normal for them not to talk to him.
Because he didn't really have anything to do at the Guardians' post-war meeting, he just played a decorative role. He wasn't the kind of person who would ruin a meeting, so he could just drift off into a trance.
Even if they fall asleep, no one will notice.
Ethan once got so sleepy from a colleague's speech that he fell asleep without realizing it. When he woke up, the meeting was about to end, and no one had noticed that he had fallen asleep.
Then, Ethan made the meeting his second place to slack off, the first being the school, where it was more comfortable and enjoyable.
As Ethan was lost in thought, the meeting was drawing to a close.
It's almost time to get out of school. There was a monster attack today, so we should probably leave early. I can just go straight home.
Ethan opened the portal and lay down in the apartment for a while. After all, it was supposed to be his day off, but he had just gone through a battle and wanted to relax. So let him lie on the sofa for a bit.
His phone was long dead, so he casually placed it on the table and prepared to drift off to sleep.
When was the last time he slept? Was it last month? He forgot, he was too busy. He couldn't remember such trivial things. His mind was full of knowledge, important information about Starfall City, and the official duties that were bothering him lately.
As he pondered these thoughts, Ethan gradually drifted off to sleep.

Author's Note: If it were Ethan from the beginning: Everyone hates me... Nobody even noticed I was asleep, they weren't listening at all... QAQ
Ethan now: Sleeping so well! (≧▽≦) I can now make the most of every minute here!
Love is like nurturing a flower. Ethan, nurtured so well by everyone, is no longer as sensitive and insecure as before. My magician colleagues, Starfall and the others, and my teachers and I are [certainly certain].
