Chapter 112 (First Release)...
Ning Wanwan always felt that Ansel's tone didn't seem to be affirming that the village would have "kindness".
But when she looked closely at Ansel's expression, she found that he was very sincere and showed no sign of anything amiss. He seemed to genuinely believe that the village might actually take pity on them and let them in.
Not to mention that Ansel was even more enthusiastic than Ning Wanwan, urging her to hurry up and get on the road.
Ning Wanwan: "..."
Ning Wanwan had initially held out hope, but Ansil's actions diminished her chances.
However, as the saying goes, in such a harsh environment, the probability of surviving outside for a long time, separated from the crowd, is extremely low, almost negligible.
After all, along the way, Ning Wanwan had seen almost nothing but white snow. She hadn't seen any animals, or even many plants.
In the end, Ansel, being more experienced, found some fruit that hadn't been pecked away by the birds, which allowed the two of them to barely regain some strength.
It's manageable for a short time, but if you want to survive outside long-term, food supply becomes a serious problem.
Therefore, Ning Wanwan felt that it would be better to go to the village to see for herself and give it a try.
Even if the village is really xenophobic, you might still be able to obtain some other important information.
Fortunately, although the village was some distance away, it wasn't too far. Ansel and Ning Wanwan walked through the snow, their steps uneven, for more than two hours, finally arriving before dark.
"This is the village you were talking about..."
Looking at the village in front of her, Ning Wanwan felt a sense of returning to the human world. The simple houses, though scattered, provided shelter from the wind and snow, and the wisps of smoke rising from the chimneys.
Even though she hadn't seen anyone pass by yet, it was enough to make Ning Wanwan happy.
Otherwise, staring at that white snow for too long would be so painful it would hurt your eyes.
“Yes, it’s the only village around here,” Ansel replied.
Ning Wanwan couldn't help but take a few more steps forward, only to be blocked by the fence gate as expected—this village had boundaries, blocked by walls and metal fence gates, making it impossible to enter directly.
"The wall doesn't seem too high," Ning Wanwan said softly to Ansel, looking up at the solid wall.
Ansel glanced at her and shrugged: "Wanwan, don't even think about it. Although you can sneak into the village by climbing, you'll be kicked out immediately."
“The village was small, almost everyone knew each other, and there was nowhere to hide. Strangers who entered without permission would be discovered very quickly.”
Ning Wanwan lowered her head in disappointment; it really wasn't that easy.
“But if Wanwan wants to climb in from here, I can help you,” Ansel shrugged, looking nonchalant. “At worst, we’ll both get beaten out.”
Ning Wanwan: "...Never mind."
Let's think of other solutions.
Forcing their way in would definitely not work. Aside from the walls and gates blocking their way, the villagers inside would be a serious problem. They and Ansel certainly couldn't withstand it.
Ning Wanwan sighed.
Perhaps because she and Ansel lingered there for a while, their unfamiliar faces attracted too much attention, and it wasn't long before they caught the attention of the villagers.
A boy of average appearance, probably in his teens, walked up to the fence gate, frowned, and asked warily, "Who are you people and what are you doing here?"
Ning Wanwan: "We're just passing through... Could we please rest in the village for a while?"
Having learned from Ansel that the village was hostile to outsiders, Ning Wanwan tentatively suggested that she wanted to stay in the village for a while.
Even so, they were still met with a firm refusal: "No! You outsiders are not allowed to stay near our village."
Ning Wanwan pursed her lips: "Can't you really make an exception? We'll only stay for a little while..."
"No! Get out of here! Otherwise, don't blame us for being impolite!"
After the boy finished speaking with a frown, he didn't wait for Ning Wanwan to say anything more and impatiently ran away.
Ning Wanwan: "...Sigh."
Ansel watched with his arms crossed, seemingly having expected this: "Wanwan, what do we do next?"
Since leaving the cave and arriving in the village, Ansel has rarely offered any suggestions, seemingly waiting for Ning Wanwan's reaction and actions.
Ning Wanwan didn't feel anything was wrong; Ansel had helped her enough.
Although she was self-aware enough to think that she wasn't particularly clever, and perhaps Ansel could come up with a better solution... since he hadn't said anything, it probably meant there was no other way.
Ning Wanwan sighed softly again, choosing not to call the boy back, but instead carefully observing the village environment through the village gate.
Upon closer inspection, following the direction the boy ran, Ning Wanwan discovered another clue.
“There seems to be a small group of people over there.” Because of the distance, Ning Wanwan squinted and asked Ansel next to her with some uncertainty.
Ansel looked at it and nodded in confirmation of Ning Wanwan's information: "Yes, there are indeed several people gathered over there. The place is a bit out of the way, so we can't see any more."
"I wonder what they're doing," Ning Wanwan muttered to herself.
Normally, Ning Wanwan wouldn't be interested in other people's affairs that have nothing to do with her, but now that she was completely in the dark and had already come all this way, she didn't want to just leave.
It's better to go and see; you might learn more and it could even help with your future action plans, which are still blank.
“I want to go see Ansel…” Ning Wanwan looked up at the blond boy.
Ansel blinked, quickly understanding Ning Wanwan's meaning: "Does Wanwan need my help?"
"Um...is that okay?"
"sure."
Ning Wanwan and Ansel followed the direction they had seen earlier, groping their way around the wall for a while until they reached the approximate location. Ning Wanwan looked up at the wall, which was much taller than her, and then looked at Ansel.
Ansel readily agreed, saying, "Wanwan, I'll carry you and jump up!"
Ning Wanwan: "..."
No, actually she just wanted to use the most conventional method to get Ansel to squat down so she could step on his shoulders to climb up...
Also, if a normal person sees a wall, would they think of grabbing someone else and jumping up to it?
My arm strength and jumping ability don't allow it!
Ning Wanwan looked at Ansel and said helplessly, "Don't joke around. You squat down, and I'll climb up by stepping on your shoulders, okay?"
Ansel paused for a moment, scratched his head blankly, and then exclaimed "Oh!" as if suddenly realizing something.
He seemed to realize from Ning Wanwan's reaction that what he said was too outrageous: "Fine, Wanwan can do whatever she wants."
Then, as Ning Wanwan turned her back, his deep purple eyes moved slightly, and he silently uttered a sentence.
[Ordinary people are really weak...]
Too weak. Before, he only knew that she was very weak, like an ant, and could die easily. Now, after spending more time with Ning Wanwan, Ansel has gradually gained a clearer understanding of her.
They'd be more likely to die if they went outside... How pitiful.
Well, in that case, it's definitely safer to keep it in front of you.
Yes, I knew it.
Ansel smiled, his eyes narrowing, and sweet dimples appeared on his cheeks.
"Wanwan, be careful." He knelt down very considerately and instructed the girl who was trying to step on his shoulders.
Ning Wanwan listened attentively to Ansel's concern: "Okay... I will."
Even without Ansel saying anything, Ning Wanwan would be careful for her own safety.
I just had a feeling of doing something wrong, and I was still a little uneasy.
Ansel's body was very stable; even with the weight of an extra person on top of it, he didn't sway at all.
"Stand firm, Wanwan."
Ansel slowly got up and started climbing. Ning Wanwan balanced her body, carefully raised her arms, tried to grab the edge of the top of the wall, and then suddenly climbed up.
"Phew..." With her vision suddenly clear, Ning Wanwan couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
She sat on the wall looking down, and Ansel was also looking up at her with a bright smile.
Ning Wanwan thought to herself, "It's fortunate that Ansel has the stamina, otherwise it would have been really difficult for me to climb up on my own."
But surprisingly... looking at the tall and slender boy's physique, Ansel actually had quite a bit of strength... and didn't seem to be struggling at all.
Speaking of which, after being trapped in the cave for so long, I still feel weak and can't shake off the feeling... But what about Ansel? How come he still has so much energy?
Ning Wanwan's eyes gradually filled with confusion and subtle doubt.
Ansel: "..."
Ansel suddenly squatted down, leaning against the wall, looking very painful and weak.
Ning Wanwan became anxious: "Ansil, what's wrong?"
Ansel coughed a few times, his voice weak: "It's nothing... I suddenly feel like I have no strength left, probably because I used too much energy just now. Don't worry about me, I'll figure out how to get up later."
Ning Wanwan: "...Okay, then you can rest well, you don't have to come up."
Since she had already gone through the trouble of coming up here, she couldn't just go back down empty-handed. Ning Wanwan hesitated for a moment, then, without thinking too much, adjusted her posture and began to observe the village.
Fortunately, the target was relatively large, with seven or eight people gathered in that area, not far from the wall, so Ning Wanwan quickly noticed the situation.
These seven or eight people were all teenagers who looked to be around the same age, laughing and kicking something in the middle.
Ning Wanwan opened her eyes wide and observed carefully. She even saw a slightly familiar face. It was the boy she had met at the entrance of the village who had prevented her and Ansel from entering.
At that moment, he was with that group of people, laughing and cursing while hitting and kicking the pure white object in the middle.
What exactly is in the middle?
Because a group of people were surrounding her, blocking her view, Ning Wanwan couldn't see very clearly. She tried even harder to see, and even couldn't help but lean her upper body slightly forward. Finally, in the gaps between the movements of a few people, she could barely make out the people in the middle.
Seemingly sensing Ning Wanwan's overly intense gaze, the object moved and suddenly looked over!
