Chapter 19 The Little Black Cat

Chapter 19 The Little Black Cat

Moreover, Lin Ruowei looked very angry, but that anger was clearly not directed at her, but at someone else.

It's very likely related to feeding the cat next.

On the way to feed the cats after class, Ning Wanwan finally understood the reason for Lin Ruowei's anger amidst her scolding and vicious curses.

The result was unsurprising, it was because of the male and female leads.

"Those two bitches, Qi Lin and Shen Wu... Now everyone at school is saying that Shen Wu doesn't discriminate against the poor and is actively associating with that poor boy Qi Lin. Now everyone is probably mocking me behind my back..."

Lin Ruowei was furious and resentful that Shen Wu seemed to favor her former fiancé whom she had rejected, and that her own reputation was deteriorating in comparison to Shen Wu.

Moreover, this is a crucial time for the Lin family and the Jiang family to establish a connection. She's still thinking of marrying Jiang Yuyuan; what if the Jiang family hears about this and objects to her marriage?

Lin Ruowei is thinking quite far ahead, even though nothing is even close to being finalized yet.

Although Ning Wanwan understood the reason for Lin Ruowei's anger, she still didn't understand what it had to do with taking her to feed the cats.

"So why... do we feed the cats?"

"You'll see when we get there," Lin Ruowei said impatiently, waving her hand.

Ning Wanwan responded with an "oh".

When they arrived, Ning Wanwan looked around. It was a small grove of trees in a corner near the back gate of the school, a place rarely visited by people.

I don't know what Lin Ruowei was thinking, bringing her here.

"Isn't it... feeding the cat?" Ning Wanwan asked softly.

Lin Ruowei was engrossed in searching for something, but she urged her, "It's right here, come with me to find it!"

Ning Wanwan temporarily put aside those thoughts and lowered her head to pretend to search very seriously, but in reality she was just daydreaming and slacking off.

Who knows what Lin Ruowei wants to do by finding the cat? She sincerely hopes she won't find it and will leave as soon as possible.

However, things didn't go as planned. Driven by some unknown force, Lin Ruowei searched very diligently and soon exclaimed joyfully, "Found it!"

Ning Wanwan walked over.

In the crevice of the large rock that Lin Ruowei was staring at, she seemed to indeed spot some furry, living creature.

Ning Wanwan squatted down and peered inside. In a small cave formed by several large rocks, she saw a few timid kittens.

"Meow, meow!" The kittens stared at her warily and frightenedly, wanting to run away but too afraid to go out, huddled together in a ball.

All the kittens were multicolored, except for one that was pure black. If that small patch of black hadn't moved, Ning Wanwan would have almost thought it was just a shadow.

"How is it?" Lin Ruowei asked, not wanting to get too close to look because she thought it was dirty.

“There are a few very small kittens inside.” Ning Wanwan hesitated for a moment. “Are these the kittens we’re supposed to feed?”

What she really wanted to ask was, was it really just feeding the cat?

“Of course,” Lin Ruowei ordered. “Get these cats out for me.”

Ning Wanwan: "...They'd probably be scared if we touched the kittens directly, it would be difficult to get them to come out."

"Then what do you suggest we do?" Lin Ruowei raised her eyebrows.

"Or maybe next time..."

"No! I can't wait!" Lin Ruowei rejected the idea without hesitation.

Ning Wanwan pursed her lips and tried a different approach to dissuade them: "If you force the kittens out, they will only run away and may even scratch you... Let's bring cat food next time."

"I brought the cat food." Lin Ruowei had actually prepared in advance, tossing the delicate little bag she was carrying to Ning Wanwan.

Ning Wanwan: "..."

How strange! Miss Lin even thought of cat food. She's so thoughtful. What's she up to?

However, seeing that the bag was indeed full of cat food and nutritional paste, and that the cat food was obviously very expensive, Ning Wanwan felt a little relieved.

At least it looks like they're there to feed the cats, rather than intending to do anything to them.

Right under Lin Ruowei's nose, Ning Wanwan squeezed out some cat-specific nutritional paste from her hand, trying to lure the cats out. However, the cats remained tightly huddled in the crevices of the rocks, showing no intention of coming out no matter what.

This was within Ning Wanwan's expectations, after all, cats are indeed highly alert small animals.

This suited Ning Wanwan's wishes perfectly.

Just as she was about to pull her hand back, she suddenly felt an itch on her fingers.

A tiny, furry, black kitten's paw rested on her hand.

Ning Wanwan was slightly taken aback.

"Meow." The next second, the head of the fluffy little black cat also poked out from the crack in the rock and tentatively licked her palm with its pink tongue.

Ning Wanwan: "!"

"Meow." The little black cat raised its head, and the tips of its ears twitched slightly.

At this moment, Ning Wan saw its eyes, which were a rare emerald green, like a bright gemstone or jade.

Just as Ning Wanwan was stunned by the kitten's beauty, Lin Ruowei impatiently pushed her aside: "It's out!"

Seeing the kittens emerge, Lin Ruowei immediately smiled, her face full of pride: "Who said these cats only get close to that kind-hearted, animal-loving Shen Wu? They'll feed them anyone!"

Ning Wanwan understood. So this whole thing was just a way to outdo Chen Wu.

It's likely that they somehow found out that Shenwu would be feeding these cats, so they deliberately came to feed the cats too, hoping to annoy Shenwu.

"Is it really necessary?" Ning Wanwan almost wanted to sigh.

That's so childish.

Lin Ruowei didn't think there was anything wrong with her behavior at all. She looked down at the little black cat with some disdain and was about to condescend to reach out and touch it.

The little black cat suddenly bristled, baring its claws and hissing at her.

Lin Ruowei, nearly startled, exclaimed, "That damn cat!"

She raised her foot to kick the little black cat, and Ning Wanwan was about to stop her when a voice suddenly sounded behind her.

What are you doing?

Shen Wu stood not far away, her tone calm. When she met Ning Wanwan's flustered gaze, she even curved her lips into a gentle and indifferent smile.

Ning Wanwan initially felt a bit like she'd been caught doing something wrong, but seeing Shen Wu's gentle attitude calmed her down considerably.

Lin Ruowei panicked for a moment, then quickly became arrogant: "Feed the cat? Can't you see? Are you the only one who can feed this cat?"

She originally wanted to say something even harsher, but under Shen Wu's smiling yet dark gaze, she strangely felt a chill run down her spine and completely lacked the courage to curse as viciously as she would in private.

“These stray cats aren’t mine, so of course anyone can feed them.” Chen Wu smiled, looking somewhat surprised. “Why would you think that?”

Lin Ruowei was silenced.

You can't just say, "Because my thoughts are so disgusting, I think you would do the same thing," can you?

Lin Ruowei felt even more resentful. It was because this person was always like this that she felt like a vicious, despicable clown.

She's clearly a rich heiress herself!

"Didn't we say we were here to feed the cats? Come and feed them together." Shen Wu seemed completely oblivious to Lin Ruowei's distorted expression, her voice soft and pleasant as she beckoned to Ning Wanwan.

Ning Wanwan hesitated for a moment: "...Okay."

She walked over slowly, taking small steps, and couldn't help but sigh in her heart.

This female lead is so magnanimous. She knows that Lin Ruowei and she are up to no good and are looking for trouble, but she is still so calm.

But thinking about it, it's understandable. After all, in the original story, Shen Wu was the most gentle and generous female lead. Even though the male lead had many interactions with other female leads, she still didn't compete, fight, or feel jealous.

She is gentle and understanding, of noble birth but never puts on airs, and always handles herself and others flawlessly.

She is very good at interpersonal relationships.

Moreover, it seemed that she had noticed Ning Wanwan's dislike of interacting with others. Apart from the time in the cafeteria, she encountered Shen Wu twice more, and both times Shen Wu simply smiled and nodded at her to show goodwill.

In addition, being of the same gender, Ning Wanwan has the least resistance to Shen Wu among the important characters she has encountered so far.

At this moment, Shen Wu did not take the initiative to speak to Ning Wanwan, which relieved Ning Wanwan, who silently observed Shen Wu's actions.

Shen Wu was much more skilled at feeding the cats than Ning Wanwan. The kittens seemed to recognize her, meowing and emerging one after another from the small stone hole to snatch food from her hands.

Ning Wanwan noticed that the black-furred, blue-eyed kitten was not among them.

But when she looked around, she couldn't find any trace of the little black cat.
