Chapter 34 (First Release)
The waiter was very gentle and his voice was soft and soothing, but Ning Wanwan inexplicably felt a sense of danger.
Perhaps it was because his position blocked the light, which made him seem somewhat oppressive.
That's all Ning Wanwan could think.
Sensing his gaze, Ning Wanwan instinctively turned her head away, avoiding his stare. Not knowing what to say, she remained silent.
He didn't say anything, just stood there, politely waiting for her to calm down.
For a moment, only the sound of their breathing could be heard.
"Thank you." However, the quiet atmosphere made Ning Wanwan increasingly uneasy. She swallowed hard, thanked him softly, and crouched down, trying to squeeze out from his side.
The girl's thanks were brief, her voice soft and delicate, with a slight tremor at the end.
But she wanted someone to entice her to say more.
"Are you really crying?" he suddenly asked.
"...What?" Ning Wanwan was stunned for a moment, trying to understand his words, and it took her a while to realize what he meant.
"I didn't..." She lowered her head slightly, her lips moved, and she was about to deny it.
The man dressed as a waiter suddenly extended his fingertip, pressed it against her chin, and gently lifted it upwards.
Ning Wanwan's lowered face was thus completely exposed to the dim light of the corridor.
Ning Wanwan: "!" This posture is so strange.
The other person's fingers touched her chin, and the slightly cool, unfamiliar body temperature made her shudder violently. She resisted and slapped them away forcefully.
"What are you doing!"
The other person's hand, which had been opened, remained frozen in mid-air.
He seemed to be affected by some unexpected factor; a flash of surprise crossed his eyes, and the smile on his face faded slightly.
The man's gaze remained fixed on her, but something seemed to have changed in his eyes; there was now scrutiny and an unknown, surging emotion.
Ning Wanwan, though outwardly fierce, was inwardly weak, and glared at him fiercely.
This waiter is really, really weird!
If you're a normal person, who would knock someone unconscious and then treat another person they just rescued in such a strange way, even using their fingers to lift up her face!
Ning Wanwan watched him warily, wishing she could get as far away from him as possible immediately.
However, this exceptionally handsome waiter glanced down at his hand, which she had just slapped away, and then looked back at her face.
And unconsciously, his gaze swept over the girl's frightened and nervous face, her misty eyes, and finally settled on the slightly reddened corners of her eyes.
Ning Wanwan blinked uncomfortably.
What is this person looking at?
She instinctively tried to grab something to defend herself, but could only grip the vacuum cleaner tightly in her hand.
The man dressed as a waiter stared at Ning Wanwan for a while, and just as the girl's expression became increasingly tense, he finally spoke slowly and apologetically.
"I'm sorry, sir. I heard from another customer that you were crying, and you haven't said anything for a while, so I was a little worried about your condition and just wanted to check on you in a hurry."
"I am truly sorry if I have offended you."
He stepped back, bowed slightly, and apologized sincerely and gently. No one would doubt the sincerity of his apology at that moment.
Ning Wanwan blushed when she heard the contents of his apology.
What a strange reason!
The reason I did that was to see if she was crying.
That's too, too awful.
"Guest, are you alright?" He asked with concern and tenderness, seemingly oblivious to Ning Wanwan's suspicious gaze.
Ning Wanwan: "..."
"I'm fine."
She exhaled, shaking off those chaotic emotions.
Regardless, the waiter helped her out of her predicament temporarily, and she should be grateful.
Maybe they just have a different way of thinking than ordinary people in some aspects.
She thanked him again, but hesitated.
"Thank you, but you knocked the guest out. Aren't you sure it won't affect your work here...?"
If there is any impact, Ning Wanwan thought that she had to find a way to help eliminate the impact no matter what.
You can't let someone help you only to get yourself into trouble.
"It's alright, it's just letting the impolite guest sleep." The waiter smiled slightly, probably noticing Ning Wanwan's guilt and unease, and said in a very understanding and humorous way.
"I think anyone else would understand."
Ning Wanwan blinked, realizing he was referring to Zhao Rui, and couldn't help but smile.
That's really quite impolite.
"Ugh—" Zhao Rui, who was still lying on the ground and ignored, moved slightly at this moment. His eyes were still closed, his brows were furrowed, and he made muffled syllables.
"This impolite guest seems to be waking up," the waiter remarked without showing any surprise, his tone completely neutral.
Just as the waiter said, Zhao Rui's eyes moved beneath his eyelids, as if he were about to open them and wake up from his coma at any moment.
Ning Wanwan: "!!!"
This was a much bigger shock than what the waiter had given us before!
She instinctively tried to grab something to defend herself, but could only grip the vacuum cleaner tightly in her hand.
"Guest, are you scared?" The waiter's voice was as gentle as a spring breeze. When the sense of danger emanating from him faded, he seemed to carry a strange, comforting power.
Ning Wanwan wasn't even sure if she had nodded.
“It’s alright, don’t be afraid,” he said. “I’ll take care of your problem.”
Ning Wanwan was so nervous that she kept staring at Zhao Rui that she didn't even know what the waiter was saying, and just nodded haphazardly.
"Ning Wanwan—" Zhao Rui opened his eyes, struggled to slowly sit up, covered the back of his head and grimaced, squeezing out a few fierce words between his teeth, his gaze fixed on her as if he was about to say something harsh.
Seeing that Zhao Rui really looked like he was going to settle scores with her, almost instinctively, Ning Wanwan's mind went blank, and she raised the thing in her hand and slammed it down hard.
"Bang!"
The vacuum cleaner handle collided with the forehead, making a loud sound.
Having just regained consciousness, Zhao Rui fell back to the ground, coincidentally in the same spot and posture.
Ning Wanwan stood there, stunned: "..."
The waiter, who had already half-reached out to deal with the rude customer, said: "..."
"Guest, you have truly been exceeding my expectations."
He had initially thought that, given how timid the girl was, he would have to rely on himself to help her again in the end.
It turned out that I didn't need to use myself, which was somewhat unexpected.
But the way he knocked someone unconscious while trembling with fear—
They're quite cute too.
The waiter pressed on his chest, and there was a human organ inside that was beating incessantly, faster and faster.
It's a wonderful feeling.
When Ning Wanwan came to her senses, she met the waiter's slightly surprised gaze: "..." (Sob)
I was forced into it! Who told Zhao Rui to be so scary!
It's just an instinctive reaction!
She felt a little embarrassed, clutching the vacuum cleaner she had just used to smash Zhao Rui, or rather, the "evidence" of her crime, praying that the waiter wouldn't bring up anything that was too sensitive to discuss.
The waiter, who was deep in thought, also turned his gaze to her hand because of her movement.
The next second, Ning Wanwan heard the other person's surprised voice: "So this is where you are."
He seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and reached out his hand to Ning Wanwan.
Ning Wanwan subconsciously handed him the vacuum cleaner.
"We couldn't find this vacuum cleaner anywhere else, but we finally found it. Sure enough, it was here." The waiter smiled, glancing without a flicker of emotion at the unconscious Zhao Rui at his feet.
"When asked, they said they weren't here."
"It seems that this guest is not only impolite, but also a habitual liar."
Ning Wanwan echoed, "Yes, yes."
That's right! It's both impolite and a lie. What's wrong with tapping it a little more with the vacuum cleaner? Is there a problem?
No problem at all!
Maybe it can even help clear out the junk in his brain!
Ning Wanwan gradually became more confident and assertive.
The waiter casually and naturally brushed aside the matter of Zhao Rui being knocked unconscious again with a few words.
Ning Wanwan, when looking at the waiter, had completely lost that sense of danger.
Instead, I started to think that this person was really a good person.
The sense of danger I felt earlier must have been an illusion.
This overly kind "good guy" even said, showing her great consideration, "Guest, is your party still going on?"
"You should go back soon. People will worry about you if they don't see you for too long."
Ning Wanwan hesitated for a moment: "Then what should he do?"
She looked at Zhao Rui, who was lying unconscious on the ground, and suddenly remembered something. She quickly squatted down to check on his condition.
I hope I won't hit someone too hard and kill them! Although the possibility is small, what if it happens?
As if reading her mind, the waiter smiled gently and said, "Don't worry, we're both very careful with our food."
He paused, his smile widening, and deliberately lowered his voice to whisper.
"If something really happens, then the two of us—"
"He's an accomplice."
His dark eyes reflected the girl's image, as if his eyes were filled with nothing but her.
Ning Wanwan: "!"
Ning Wanwan thought he was joking and laughed too.
In the end, Ning Wanwan did not return to the party.
She felt that since she hadn't been back for so long, the others probably already knew she had left, and besides, she wasn't even supposed to be at this gathering in the first place.
I'm afraid that apart from Shen Wu, no one would even notice her.
So far, everything is still normal.
Ning Wanwan was even in a good mood, and remained relaxed until she got home and lay in bed.
Until she suddenly remembered something, a thought flashed through her mind, and she remembered something.
Something's not right.
The waiter's question at the time was, "Are you really crying?"
Before this, Zhao Rui did say that she was so scared that she cried.
The waiter claimed that it was because of what Zhao Rui said that he wanted to confirm whether she was really crying.
Regardless of whether his reason is true or not, the fact that he could give this reason means he must have heard Zhao Rui say it with his own ears.
However, the key point is—
When Zhao Rui said something like she was crying, it was clearly at the beginning! Not when the waiter appeared!
In other words, the waiter witnessed the entire process of Zhao Rui stopping her and heard every word he said.
But perhaps he is just quietly listening and watching from some corner.
Ning Wanwan struggled several times without success, growing increasingly fearful and panicked, before finally managing to break free.
"..."
Just thinking about this possibility sent chills down Ning Wanwan's spine.
Oh no, I won't be able to sleep tonight.
