Chapter 47 (First Release)
Even though she said those words herself, the thought of having the main body create another clone that Ning Wanwan liked made her feel more attached to the other clone...
Chen Wu felt inexplicably unwell.
However, my relationship with Wanwan hasn't progressed much, so maybe I should listen to other people's experiences. If Wanwan really likes Mu Xijue's type, even though I really dislike that person, it's not impossible...
Ning Wanwan blushed instantly when she heard Shen Wu's seemingly serious question.
What do you mean she "really likes that type"?! Don't believe or spread rumors, understand?!
And female lead, are you really such a gossipy and easily fooled person? It's obvious they were just saying it casually, why would you believe such a thing!
I could have just believed it, but I actually asked it out loud!
Does that mean they wanted to ask a few more questions because they know the person?
Despite her inner turmoil, socially awkward Ning Wanwan managed to squeeze out only two words as her answer after a long struggle: "...No."
She paused, afraid that the female lead might misunderstand, and solemnly reiterated, "I don't like that type."
Yes, that's right, she doesn't like any type.
When Ning Wanwan denied it, Shen Wu breathed a barely perceptible sigh of relief.
Although I was prepared to get another slice if Ning Wanwan really liked his type as Mu Xijue said, it's better to avoid it if possible...
And, Shen Wu genuinely believes that Mu Xijue is ill.
"You'd better stay away from that person," Shen Wu said thoughtfully, her expression hardening.
"That person," Ning Wanwan thought for a moment, "does it refer to Dr. Mu?"
"Don't be fooled by his easygoing appearance; he's not a good person," Shen Wu said with a serious expression. "That guy surnamed Mu is only interested in the research subjects in his lab."
"If he sets his sights on us..."
If they're being targeted... will they be used for research?
Although Shen Wu hadn't finished speaking, Ning Wanwan had already imagined the scene of being dissected, and couldn't help but shudder.
"I...I understand..."
Ning Wanwan marked Mu Xijue in red, elevating him to a dangerous person whom one should avoid at all costs.
She stroked the cat in her arms, not noticing that the little black cat's fur was still wet and not very soft to touch.
Shen Wu: "Are we going to stand here forever? Let's leave first."
Ning Wanwan: "Okay..."
She followed behind Shen Wu for a few steps, hesitated for a moment, and then decided to speak: "Classmate Shen Wu..."
A soft voice betrayed a hint of guilt: "Why don't you reconsider adopting this little black cat..."
"Meow!" The little black cat, which had been nestled peacefully in the girl's arms, couldn't stay still any longer upon hearing this. It poked its head out of the towel and meowed eagerly at Ning Wanwan.
Ning Wanwan comforted the little black cat, but still looked at Chen Wu with unwavering determination, waiting for her answer.
Shen Wu was also looking at Ning Wanwan, a human girl who seemed ordinary to everyone else.
She sighed softly, a gentle smile playing on her lips: "Wanwan, even I sometimes really don't understand you..."
It's not that I don't like this little black cat.
The contradiction is that she is unwilling to raise the child herself, but instead keeps pushing it onto her, a classmate she is not very close to.
Logically speaking, most people would choose to raise it themselves.
“I… I have other unavoidable reasons…” Ning Wanwan lowered her eyes, “I’m not suitable to keep it.”
"So, Wanwan thinks I'm the right person?" Shen Wu was genuinely curious.
Ning Wanwan nodded emphatically.
She looked down into the little black cat's pitiful, emerald-green eyes and couldn't help but waver for a moment, but she immediately regained her resolve.
She had actually considered that since the little black cat was so attached to her, it might be better if she were to keep the little black cat herself.
However—putting aside the potential plot collapse, just looking at the balance on her phone instantly brought Ning Wanwan to her senses.
Then I flicked myself on the forehead!
What are you thinking! You can't even support yourself, and you want to raise a cat! Especially a special cat that requires a lot of resources to raise!
I think you've lived a comfortable life in this world for a while with a little bit of money, and now you're getting arrogant, aren't you!
As we all know from the later part of the story, the more promising a beast is, the more expensive it is to raise. With the little black cat's aptitude, let alone Ning Wanwan, even an average person with money couldn't afford to raise it.
Poor Ning Wanwan had no choice but to calmly decide to follow the plot.
“So, Shenwu, although I know my request might be a bit abrupt and offensive, I still want to ask... can you keep it?” Ning Wanwan added softly, “It’s very well-behaved.”
Shen Wu glanced at the cat, which was baring its teeth and hissing at her, with a half-smile. "Oh, really?"
Ning Wanwan quickly pulled the little black cat, who looked like it was about to scratch her at any moment, back into her arms, and whispered even softer, like a mosquito's hum: "Yes."
Shen Wu: "..."
Seeing Shen Wu's expressionless face, Ning Wanwan felt a surge of anxiety, as if she were a poor salesperson diligently trying to sell slow-moving goods but failing to do so.
I'm probably going to get rejected again...
Shen Wu finally spoke: "Although I don't plan to adopt a cat that already has an owner, it's not impossible to grant your wish, Wanwan."
Ning Wanwan's eyes lit up, and she suddenly looked up: "Really!"
"Yes, I'm not lying to you, Wanwan. After all, you've put so much effort into this cat." She was almost too touched by how much effort you'd put in.
Chen Wu paused for a moment, "But, Wanwan, I'll grant your wish. Have you thought about what you'd like to exchange for it?"
Ning Wanwan was stunned. What Shen Wu was saying now sounded very similar to what he had said last time.
But this time, perhaps because Shen Wu's eyes were very calm and his face was not wearing that mask-like smile, Ning Wanwan did not have that chilling fear, nor did she have the urge to run away.
"...I haven't decided yet." The girl pursed her lips, like a small animal cautiously peeking out of a hole, ready to retreat at the slightest disturbance.
She asked tentatively in a small voice, "What do you want?"
Shen Wu looked at her, feeling even more pity for her, and even felt reluctant to make things difficult for her.
It really is a very strange feeling.
This feeling is something that this clone of myself cannot resist and does not want to resist. So, if it were the main body, could it remain indifferent?
“I have something I want… Don’t be nervous, Wanwan.” Shen Wu smiled gently. “I will get what I want myself.”
"But Wanwan, can you promise me one small favor? Please don't deliberately distance yourself from me or avoid me anymore."
Ning Wanwan repeated the word "avoid" in a daze.
“That’s right. Don’t deliberately avoid me for the sake of others. For example, before, because of Lin Ruowei, you always tried to avoid contact with me in front of her, didn’t you?”
Ning Wanwan: "..." Unable to refute.
Lin Ruowei regarded Shen Wu as an enemy, and as a diligent follower, Ning Wanwan would certainly not want to cause trouble by trying to get on good terms with Shen Wu.
More importantly, Shen Wu is the female lead and an important character with many connections to the plot, but Shen Wu naturally couldn't have imagined this.
"Wanwan, can you agree to this small condition?" Shen Wu's beautiful eyes were fixed on her. "If you agree, I will follow your wishes and adopt this black cat."
With victory in sight, Ning Wanwan was conflicted. This condition seemed really easy to meet, but she still didn't agree immediately.
She asked cautiously, "To what extent... do you mean by 'not avoiding'?"
Shenwu's request remained simple: "Just be willing to respond to my greetings."
"When I greet you, don't run away immediately. Instead, respond with a word, a look, or an expression. Anything will do."
It seems really simple.
After all, when Shen Wu greeted him before, he would still respond, even though he wanted to end the conversation immediately.
Is this all?
"Yes, this is it."
Ning Wanwan had no idea what a subtle, silent invasion meant.
"Okay," she agreed.
Chen Wu curved her lips, her eyes resembling a starry lake.
"Meow! Meow!" How could the little black cat, which Ning Wanwan handed over to Chen Wu without hesitation, be happy? It struggled and kept meowing, trying to win Ning Wanwan back.
Ning Wanwan's heart was as hard as iron: "I'll leave it to you."
Shen Wu held the little black cat through the towel, her smile unchanged, like a gentle wife whose husband had entrusted the child to her after a long trip: "Don't worry, I will take good care of it."
"Meow! Meow!" The little black cat continued to scream in agony, its little paws trying to reach Ning Wanwan's sleeve. As its potential was unleashed, a faint light, representing its special abilities, gradually ignited on its body, but Shen Wu casually held it down.
Don't scare Wanwan.
Ning Wanwan was oblivious, squatted down to look at the little black cat, and sighed, "You will have a better owner."
"Meow! Meow!"
I don't want any other better master, I only want you as my master!
"Besides, I really can't afford to support you."
"Meow!" It's okay, I can eat very little every day!
Ning Wanwan couldn't understand cat language. She felt that was enough. Since the matter was resolved, she stood up and said goodbye to Chen Wu.
"I have to go now……"
"Okay." Shen Wu nodded and smiled. "See you tomorrow, Wanwan."
"See you tomorrow..." Ning Wanwan didn't know when the other person had started calling her Wanwan, and seemed to really like it.
But trying to correct it would seem too serious.
Watching the girl's retreating figure, Shen Wu lowered her eyes slightly and looked at the listless little black cat in her arms, which was meowing weakly.
"Aww!"
The little black cat noticed Shen Wu's gaze, bared its teeth at her, and looked fierce, showing none of the docility it displayed in Ning Wanwan's arms.
Shen Wu's movements were not gentle; she deftly pinched the scruff of its neck, lifted it up, and brought it to her eyes to meet the gaze of those wild beast's emerald green eyes.
"Stop crying, you should be grateful." Shen Wu curled her lips, her eyes devoid of any smile. "Only Wanwan would be soft-hearted enough to find you a place to go with your little tricks of playing the victim."
“If she’s ruthless tonight and doesn’t come, then you, this unruly and untamed beast, will be useless.”
"Then you will probably die."
The little black cat, though understanding, still bared its teeth at her fiercely, but Chen Wu didn't care and carried the little black cat forward.
The beast was incredibly resilient, and only Ning Wanwan could truly treat it like an ordinary kitten.
...
When Ning Wanwan left the school, she had clearly lingered at the school for quite some time, but the security guard didn't ask her any questions.
She hesitated for a moment, then voiced her doubts to the security guard: "Is it normal to be able to enter our school this late?"
The security guard replied, "Of course not." It was as if Ning Wanwan had asked a silly question.
Ning Wanwan: "Then why am I..."
"It's because Shen Wu had already given prior notice," the security guard replied.
Ning Wanwan suddenly realized.
I have a feeling that Shen Wu had anticipated this, that she would come to school on a rainy night.
How could the other party have foreseen this, and why did they change their mind and agree to her request... Forget it, I can't think about it anymore, it'll make me grow a brain.
Ning Wanwan sighed softly, gripped the umbrella handle slightly, and walked out of the guardhouse to open the umbrella again, but suddenly noticed that something seemed to be hanging on it.
It's a very cute little bear doll with a big, wide smile.
The teddy bear is holding a rolled-up piece of paper.
A contact number and a simple smiley face were written on it in bold, flowing handwriting.
Signed: Dr. Mu.
