Chapter 50 (First Release)
It's a bit of a pity, really. If it had been a little later or a little earlier, the male and female leads might have met, developed their feelings for each other, and made the plot go more smoothly.
Ning Wanwan's mind was filled with a jumble of random thoughts.
"It seems Wanwan hasn't forgotten her promise to me." Shen Wu was unaware of Ning Wanwan's thoughts; otherwise, she probably wouldn't have been able to maintain such a gentle smile.
She tilted her head slightly and smiled at Ning Wanwan, like a warm spring breeze.
Ning Wanwan nodded: "Mmm..."
Ning Wanwan couldn't possibly forget her promise made just last night to respond to her greetings so quickly.
Her heart was pounding. Had the female lead seen her conversation with the male lead earlier?
The next second, Shen Wu revealed the answer. She asked with some curiosity, "By the way, Wanwan, I just saw you talking to Qi Lin from Class 1. Do you two know each other?"
Ning Wanwan was startled. The female lead had really seen it—she had just been standing at the top of the stairs, watching the interaction between herself and Qi Lin below.
The female lead, as a third party, quietly observes the conflict between the minor character and the male lead...
That's weird.
Now that she's come looking for me, she's not trying to get revenge for the male lead later, is she?
Although Shen Wu was usually quite nice to her, Ning Wanwan dared not gamble on whether she or the male lead held more importance in the female lead's heart.
There's absolutely no suspense! The female lead cares most about the male lead!
With a jumble of thoughts running through her mind, Ning Wanwan replied decisively, "I don't know her."
How could someone as insignificant as her possibly know the male lead?
"Is that so?" Shen Wu didn't say whether she believed it or not, her smile remained gentle.
"But Wanwan is even more popular than I imagined," she said with a sigh.
Ning Wanwan: "..."
How could she be popular! She and the male lead are clearly having a conflict! The male lead obviously dislikes her and has a very bad impression of her!
...Wait a minute, could the female lead have misunderstood something?
If I were to negatively impact the development of the relationship between the male and female leads, then I would be committing a grave sin!
Ning Wanwan didn't care about anything else and quickly looked up to explain, "Um, I really don't know him. He seems to be quite hostile towards me..."
Shen Wu blinked, looked at the flustered Ning Wanwan, and suddenly burst out laughing.
"Wanwan, what are you so nervous about? I didn't question you."
"Isn't it because I'm worried about your relationship not going smoothly? I can't bear the thought of a plot hole like the main couple's relationship going wrong," Ning Wanwan thought to herself.
"Alright, your breakfast will get cold if we keep chatting." Chen Wu's gaze slid over the breakfast in her hand, and he said with a smile, "Go to the classroom."
The conversation ended there, and Ning Wanwan secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Sometimes she even wondered if Shen Wu could see through people's hearts.
Otherwise, one could always strike the right balance and end the conversation before feeling any resistance.
At the classroom door, Lin Ruowei hadn't gone in yet. She probably saw Ning Wanwan and Chen Wu together earlier, gave Ning Wanwan a disgruntled look, and then turned and went inside.
Ning Wanwan: "..."
To be honest, Lin Ruowei really hated Shen Wu deeply, even though the two of them usually didn't have any interaction.
If Lin Ruowei weren't the villainous supporting character and Shen Wu weren't the female lead, Ning Wanwan would have suspected that Lin Ruowei's love for Shen Wu was so deep that it turned into a darker side.
Once inside the classroom, Ning Wanwan remembered something and felt somewhat annoyed.
"Oh, I forgot to return the tablet to the female lead. It's been taking so long..."
We'll just have to find another opportunity next time.
But honestly, the games downloaded on the tablet are really fun; Chenwu really knows how to pick them.
Moreover, Shen Wu is truly impeccable in every aspect, whether it's her personality or her way of doing things... No wonder she deserves to be the number one female lead in the Long Ao Tianwen series.
Thinking back to their first face-to-face encounter today, and Qi Lin's attitude, Ning Wanwan felt a little annoyed again.
"I think the male lead doesn't deserve such a good female lead, and he even has three wives! Three!"
He's enjoying the blessings of having two women! He's the envy of countless people. I really wonder how outstanding the other two female leads are.
[Host, do you also want three wives?]
Ning Wanwan: "...Shut up, what nonsense are you talking about?"
She was just joking; she has severe social anxiety and just wants to stay home alone and do whatever she wants, rather than joining a group of strangers.
"But even if I wanted to, there probably wouldn't be several people willing to go together." Ning Wanwan was very self-aware. The reason why the male protagonist in the novel could have three super powerful female confidantes was because the male protagonist himself was very powerful and capable.
How could someone as ordinary and physically weak as me possibly be surrounded by countless people like the male protagonist?
As for that "love at first sight" cheat code... Ning Wanwan shuddered and pressed her mask against her face.
Good, it's still on tightly.
Observing its host's series of actions, the system finally couldn't help but ask out of curiosity: "Host, were you really sighing on the street because, as the male lead said, wearing a mask was too stuffy?"
Ning Wanwan: "...Of course not."
Why does simply sighing cause so many people to have questions?
No, the system isn't a person.
Ning Wanwan looked at the breakfast in her hand, hesitated for a moment, took out the still warm bottle of milk, took a sip, and then sighed softly.
"I've just discovered once again that I'm not very good at saying no."
Zhou Yanyao's act of giving was far superior to Zhao Rui's in that he considered what Ning Wanwan needed and then gave it to her in a more reasonable way.
Sometimes Ning Wanwan felt that this kind of pure behavior, which only wanted to be good to her without asking for anything in return, made her unsure how to deal with it.
This emotion was so genuine it was almost blinding.
Ning Wanwan felt that she might never be able to repay others with something of equal value.
"Forget it, I'm not going to think about these things anymore. Things will work themselves out."
Ning Wanwan tidied her desk, opened her workbook, and began to listen attentively after the class bell rang. However, for some reason, the teacher seemed unusually listless during the lecture, and even her voice wasn't as forceful and resonant when scolding students.
Ning Wanwan felt a little dizzy.
I have a cold.
No, host, it's probably due to the fog.
Ning Wanwan paused for a moment, looked around, and found that almost everyone in the classroom was in the same listless and dejected state.
Even wearing a mask, I couldn't completely avoid the impact.
Ning Wanwan finally faced the process of the world quietly changing, and this was just a small appetizer before the main course.
"..."
Her sense of crisis rose again.
I pulled out a piece of scrap paper and started scribbling.
"The world will change even more in the future, until it is completely transformed, and there will be crises everywhere."
"For an ordinary person like me, the best thing to do is to stay put. Staying at home and not going out is a good option... I'll go out and fix things when things change..."
"So what we need to do next is to stock up on food and daily necessities at home as much as possible while it is still relatively safe... and it would be best to also buy some self-defense tools... although they probably won't be very effective, they will at least provide some protection."
Ning Wanwan started checking her current money balance again.
The numbers are truly appalling.
"Waaah."
In fact, Ning Wanwan was already very frugal with her spending, only occasionally indulging in things she wanted to eat. But in today's society, money seems to flow out like water, and sometimes her balance would be depleted even before she bought anything.
Ning Wanwan is different from other students; without her parents' support, things will be even more difficult for her.
We need to find a way to increase our money, otherwise it will be really difficult. And it will definitely be even harder for ordinary people to make money in the future.
After class today, even the noise and fighting were much less than usual, and most of the students were listlessly slumped over their desks.
"I feel a bit listless today... That's strange."
"You probably stayed up late last night. Were you secretly studying again in the middle of the night?"
Ning Wanwan ignored the chatter and started secretly searching for various part-time jobs on her phone, trying to find a suitable one.
However, for students preparing for the college entrance examination, it is really difficult to find part-time jobs that are suitable in terms of time, location, and work environment. Most of the short-term part-time jobs available are the kind that take up a lot of time and energy from morning to night.
"Let's think of some other ways..." Ning Wanwan hid behind the high pile of textbooks on the table, rolling her face on the draft paper in frustration, using the coolness of the paper to soothe her restless heart.
Taking advantage of the fact that it was during break time, no one could hear her. Hiding behind her books, she sighed softly with melancholy.
"Are there any easy part-time jobs that don't take up much time and pay quickly...?"
After talking to herself, Ning Wanwan laughed at herself. How could such a part-time job possibly exist?
Yes.
A shadow fell overhead, and a magnetic, amusing voice sounded in my ear.
Ning Wanwan: "!!!"
Ning Wanwan was startled when her voice, which was originally just her own, was suddenly heard by someone. She jumped up abruptly, almost knocking the pile of books on her desk to the ground.
The person chuckled softly, and with their long, slender, fair hands, they steadily supported the pile of books that were tumbling over, preventing Ning Wanwan's textbooks from falling to the ground in a tragic manner.
"Be careful, little one, it's not good to be so easily frightened."
The tone and form of address sounded familiar.
Ning Wanwan was stunned for a moment, then looked up and met a pair of amorous peach blossom eyes that were full of smiles.
Further down, there was his unchanging white lab coat.
Mu Xijue winked at her and said cheerfully, "We meet again, Ning Wanwan."
Ning Wanwan: "..." She stared at him blankly, without saying a word.
Mu Xijue waved her hand, her long, slender fingers with distinct knuckles flashing past her eyes before casually slipping back into her pocket. "Snap out of it, don't daydream."
Ning Wanwan seemed to wake from a dream: "...You, you, Dr. Mu..."
She never expected that the mysterious figure, who she had imagined was always staying in the base doing research and was like a boss, would actually appear here!
And so he stood openly and honestly in the classroom!
Mu Xijue took in Ning Wanwan's incredulous expression, and as if he had thought of something very interesting, he raised the corners of his mouth with a rather wicked grin.
"You don't need to call me Dr. Mu anymore. Do you remember the title you used that day?"
Ning Wanwan recalled the name she had initially called him by mistake for a while, then looked at the man with a mixture of surprise and uncertainty.
"Teacher Mu, Teacher Mu..."
