Chapter 53 (First Release)
[Host, this was really close...] The system was still shaken. [He must be some kind of villain!]
Ning Wanwan snapped out of her thoughts and pursed her lips.
Fortunately, Mu Xijue let her go in the end.
"Otherwise, I'll probably have to rely on mentioning Shen Wu's name to make him wary, or simply give in to him and make him take off his mask..."
Ning Wanwan did not choose to mention Shen Wu when she was in crisis because she did not really understand the relationship between the two. She was unsure what Mu Xijue would do after bringing up Shen Wu's name, whether Shen Wu would find out, and what the consequences would be.
As for taking off her mask and being seen by the other party... Ning Wanwan couldn't help but shudder at the thought of Mu Xijue's gentle yet smiling coaxing manner.
She wasn't sure if "love at first sight" really worked, but the other person was already abnormal. If he was really affected after seeing her face, wouldn't that make him even more perverted?
Right now, the other party only has a slight, indifferent interest in her. If their interest intensifies after they take off their masks... Ning Wanwan would rather gamble that she can do nothing and get away with it.
Of course, if absolutely necessary, she would have to disregard the consequences and save her own life first...
"Ning Wanwan, did you go to Teacher Mu's office? What did he say to you?" Several classmates gathered around and asked with curious faces.
Ning Wanwan thought the matter was over, but she didn't expect that she still couldn't escape being watched. She underestimated the students' gossip about the mysterious new teacher.
"He didn't say anything..."
The students looked incredulous, one after another saying, "Wanwan, please tell us what he said. We really want to know who this teacher is."
"Yeah, he's so handsome and teaches so well... It's really amazing that he suddenly appeared right before the college entrance exam."
"They're not here for Wanwan, are they?"
Perhaps because the learning atmosphere was too dull, everyone was in high spirits when something new happened.
Moreover, to those unaware of the situation, Mu Xijue is indeed very attractive.
Under everyone's gaze, Ning Wanwan naturally couldn't tell the whole truth. She forced herself to lie in a low voice, "He just noticed that I wasn't paying attention in class, so he called me over to ask him something..."
"I don't know his background either; I just happened to run into him once at school..."
The students, who were eager to gossip, were all surprised: "So Teacher Mu was already at school before? Damn it, what bad luck, we didn't even run into her."
Some people also turned their attention to Ning Wanwan, the little-known girl who was trying to keep a low profile.
"Wanwan, you know so many people. You can't judge a book by its cover... You know Chen Wu, you know Zhou Yanyao, and I didn't expect you to even know the new teacher."
"Yeah, yeah..."
Ning Wanwan awkwardly forced a polite smile.
She couldn't very well say that she didn't actually want to get involved with these people at all.
Ning Wanwan wasn't good at social maneuvering, nor did she engage in much conversation. The classmates who had finished gossiping stopped trying to make a fool of themselves and finally dispersed, but their gazes towards Ning Wanwan became different.
Even Lin Ruowei, who had always thought Ning Wanwan had no background and was just a former follower, and who always looked down on her with arrogant eyes, couldn't help but turn her head to look at her properly.
It's really strange. I don't see anything special about her. She's been wearing a mask all the time lately, so why is everyone crowding around Ning Wanwan?
Lin Ruowei didn't have any particular feelings for Mu Xijue, but she could tell that his background was probably quite extraordinary, since it was difficult for someone to be parachuted into A-High School. Meanwhile, her followers were still gossiping among themselves.
"Having such a handsome male teacher has increased my motivation to study! I'm going to work even harder!"
"I really hope Mr. Mu can stay as our homeroom teacher. He teaches so well."
Lin Ruowei scoffed. The college entrance exam is almost here, and they're still talking about striving? That's more like a pipe dream. Aren't they afraid of being laughed at?
Anyway, Lin Ruowei was confident that she had the Lin family backing her, so she wouldn't squeeze onto the single-plank bridge of the college entrance examination like these mediocre classmates.
Ning Wanwan also overheard the discussion.
Her eyes were vacant, she was both shocked by Mu Xijue's popularity after just one class and worried about the days to come.
She absolutely didn't want to see Mu Xijue in the classroom anymore! It was too nerve-wracking!
It would be best if that guy surnamed Mu resigned from his teaching position as soon as possible and went back to focus on his so-called research.
Fortunately, the college entrance exam is not far away. If it really doesn't work out, I'll just have to endure it... until the crucial point of the plot.
Suddenly, Ning Wanwan thought of something, looked out the window for a while, and said with a hint of surprise, "The fog outside has begun to dissipate slowly."
No wonder these students have the energy to discuss these trivial topics.
In any case, Ning Wanwan doesn't have those girlish sentiments for the time being.
She leaned back on the table, chin resting on the surface, and continued scrolling through her phone, looking at the time-consuming and laborious part-time jobs she had been looking for. She sighed softly.
"To be honest... aside from the job content, the part-time job was described as quite tempting."
“I almost fell for his trick at first. If it weren’t for Shen Wu’s reminder, I might have actually agreed to his ‘part-time job’.”
The easy and lucrative part-time job that Mu Xijue had embellished was like a poison coated in honey, perfectly matching Ning Wanwan's desires. For Ning Wanwan, who was currently in a strong need, the temptation was too great.
Although he hadn't forgotten Shen Wu's warning and had been internally criticizing the guy for putting on a show, he had to admit that the qualities he displayed were indeed very deceptive.
Even though she knew this person was anything but simple, her impression of him kept improving, gradually separating him from the cold, inhuman experimentalist she had imagined.
I'm too relaxed right now.
Fortunately, Ning Wanwan remained rational this time, and this experience made her more aware that there are no free lunches.
[Host, this SSS-level world is inherently dangerous, and those characters are no pushovers. It's perfectly normal to be misled.]
Ning Wanwan gave a soft "Mmm," a slight smile curving her lips: "Thank you for the comfort."
She carefully browsed her phone for a while, selecting several part-time jobs with acceptable hours and pay, planning to check them out after school.
Because she was preoccupied with something, Ning Wanwan ran very fast after school, putting her hat on and carrying her schoolbag before disappearing from sight.
Lin Ruowei weighed the options repeatedly, still struggling with her decision. Turning around, she realized the person she was looking for was gone. Frowning, she asked her follower, "Where's Ning Wanwan?"
The henchman replied, "Ning Wanwan has left. Miss Lin, is there something you need to see her about?"
The follower looked curious, after all, almost everyone in the class knew that Ning Wanwan, her former follower, had a falling out with Lin Ruowei and completely broken up with her.
Now we have to find them again.
"It's nothing, I was just asking." Lin Ruowei stiffened her beautiful face, putting on the airs of a young lady.
She naturally couldn't say, "I have something I want Ning Wanwan to help me with."
Last time, when she asked Ning Wanwan to do something, Ning Wanwan, who used to fawn over her, refused outright. Lin Ruowei, who was very proud, didn't tell anyone and could only curse her in her heart for being so tactless.
Given Ning Wanwan's current attitude of distancing herself from her, she might have to beg Ning Wanwan for help.
Seeking favor with someone she previously looked down upon would undoubtedly damage the pride of the arrogant Miss Lin.
...
Ning Wanwan visited several tentative locations, and finally, after discussing with the owner of an eyeglasses store, she decided to work part-time there every weekend.
Optical shops usually don't lack staff, so Ning Wanwan was lucky to run into one.
Having resolved one issue, Ning Wanwan was in a good mood. On her way home, she calculated the money she would need to stock up on supplies and her upcoming expenses.
Sigh, money is still tight; there's never enough.
Ning Wanwan couldn't help but let out a very common sigh: "I really want to win the lottery."
System: [Host, we just passed a lottery shop, shall we buy some?]
"I won't buy it." Very decisive.
But host, you just said...
Ning Wanwan said matter-of-factly, "Isn't it normal to want to win the lottery even if you don't buy one?"
She glanced at her phone's balance and a hint of heartache crossed her face. Buying lottery tickets costs money, and she knew she wouldn't win; it would be a waste of money.
Okay.
In that instant, the system learned all sorts of new vocabulary from human society, such as "Lord Ye's love of dragons" (a Chinese idiom meaning to be hypocritical or to say one thing but mean another), "getting something for nothing," and so on.
Ning Wanwan didn't buy lottery tickets; instead, she used her remaining money to buy some dinner to take home.
"Let's eat some steamed buns." Steamed buns are fragrant, soft, and delicious!
Just buy from the store I usually go to!
The previous two times she ordered takeout were very, very occasional indulgences, and the food wasn't expensive. Now, Ning Wanwan feels a greater sense of urgency and plans to save money wherever possible.
[Host, if all else fails, I'll hack the bank, or even kidnap a rich CEO...]
Ning Wanwan was shocked: "You're committing a crime! I've even found a part-time job, just to make do for now... Besides, we can't even see the CEO, how are we supposed to kidnap him?"
At this point, Ning Wanwan herself found it somewhat amusing and couldn't help but chuckle slightly.
Just as she was standing by the roadside, looking up at the sign of the large supermarket and seriously considering whether to go to the farmers' market to buy some more pickled vegetables and chili sauce, a low-key yet luxurious black car pulled up beside her.
The car window slowly rolled down.
Having already thought it through and decided to buy pickled vegetables, Ning Wanwan turned around and continued walking forward, completely oblivious to what was happening.
The car started up and followed slowly behind, without making any attempt to conceal its movements, but the people in the car did not say anything to warn them.
It wasn't until Ning Wanwan was reminded by the system that she realized a luxury car was following her.
Ning Wanwan's heart tightened, wondering what the car following her was up to. She casually stopped and turned to look—
Then I saw the indifferent and cold face of the villain, Jiang Yuyuan.
He was sitting in the car, staring straight at her, lost in thought.
Ning Wanwan: "!"
Her heart skipped a beat. She wasn't sure how to react, but at least the person had helped her before.
After hesitating for a moment, she cautiously gave the other person a small smile.
Then she saw that Jiang Yuyuan suddenly looked away and stopped staring at her.
However, his brows furrowed almost imperceptibly, as if he were showing a hint of irritation.
"Get in the car," he said coldly.
