Chapter 70 (First Release)
[An entire city, countless ordinary lives perished here, as insignificant as ants.]
Only those key characters with trump cards survived, including the male protagonist.
"..."
The system's light, whimsical electronic voice tells the story, but it also implies countless lives lost.
As an ordinary person, Ning Wanwan felt the shadow of death looming over her even heavier.
However, the plot has taken a major turn; the timeline has been moved too far ahead. It should have been after graduation, but the specific circumstances are no longer detectable...
[It's uncertain how things will turn out, which is why you, host, need to figure out the situation and get the plot back on track.]
[This is a major mistake, and there's basically no time to change it, host. Perhaps we should evacuate this city first; there's still time. If you die here tomorrow, there will be no way to recover.]
Seeing Ning Wanwan's pale face and trembling eyes, clearly frightened by the actual crisis, the system couldn't help but try harder to persuade her, attempting to make her realize the urgency and danger involved.
Ning Wanwan remained silent for a moment, then lowered her eyelashes.
"Of course you can leave now."
"But what happens after you leave?"
"Leave here, then the male lead dies, the female lead dies, all the important characters disappear, and a perfect ending is impossible."
[...]
Ning Wanwan said softly, "I haven't forgotten my goal."
Her goal is to achieve a perfect ending and return to her original world, instead of being stuck forever in this dangerous world that she doesn't fit in at all.
Staying here would mean nothing to her.
In some matters, Ning Wanwan has an unusually strong persistence and stubbornness.
[Host, I understand...]
Please do your best tomorrow.
"Mm." Ning Wanwan nodded, took a deep breath, tried to calm her racing heart, and began to make a plan.
Since the specific situation is uncertain and unforeseen events cannot be predicted, further speculation is of little use; for now, we can only formulate a rough outline.
Perhaps more importantly, we'll need to adapt to the changing circumstances tomorrow.
After a long while, Ning Wanwan curled up back into bed and set an alarm.
"I hope I can get a good night's sleep tonight and recharge my energy," Ning Wanwan hoped.
Unfortunately, the more she worried, the less she could sleep. The next morning, before the alarm clock rang, Ning Wanwan got out of bed and washed up with a tired face.
I had nightmares all night, and when I woke up this morning, my heart was still pounding.
"Once this is resolved, if I'm still alive, I'm definitely going to sleep in late, the kind of sleep-in that doesn't end until noon."
Ning Wanwan sighed listlessly and splashed some cold water on her face to try and wake herself up.
Let's go.
[Host, aren't you going to eat breakfast? You'll be too weak later.]
Ning Wanwan thought about it and agreed; today would most likely require a lot of effort. Of course, it was also possible that the city would be destroyed with a "bang," and everything would be over.
Ning Wanwan picked up a piece of bread, glanced back, and left the house.
She ate while waiting for the bus.
That's right. Even though she was on the verge of death, the penniless Ning Wanwan still chose to take the bus instead of a taxi.
"It's not that I don't have enough money, I just have a gut feeling that I can complete the task, so I'll save as much as I can," Ning Wanwan said stubbornly, glancing at her balance.
System: [Host, how about I blackmail you a car...]
Ning Wanwan: "Stop. I don't want to go to jail right after I stopped the city from exploding."
After exchanging a few jokes, Ning Wanwan relaxed a bit. Staying on edge would only make things more prone to mistakes.
"It feels like I'm going to take an exam." Ning Wanwan looked at the addresses of the various stops on the bus stop sign, her gaze landing on "East District Amusement Park".
Am I considered someone who accompanies someone to the exam?
"Yes, I guess so. She'll be my exam companion even if we go to the exam hall together," Ning Wanwan replied casually.
She thought for a moment, then suddenly said, "Actually, I think things might not be so bad."
system:【】
Ning Wanwan: "Whether it's Jiang Yuyuan, the mastermind, or Mu Xijue, who is probably connected to me in some way, they both warned me not to go to the East District during this period."
"If the whole city is really going to collapse together, then there's no need to specifically tell me not to go to the East End. We're all just waiting to die anyway, so what's the difference between sitting at home and being at an amusement park?"
[What the host says makes sense. But has the host considered that it might be the people in the East District who died today?]
Ning Wanwan: "..."
[Host, we are now taking a bus to the amusement park in the East District.]
Ning Wanwan: "...I know."
So, should we turn back?
Ning Wanwan: "...No."
Ning Wanwan muttered to herself, "After all, we're already here, so there's always a storyline that's gone astray that we need to fix, right?"
Ning Wanwan didn't want to gamble on that possibility.
Moreover, the best outcome would actually be to both correct the distorted plot and save everyone...
Stop! Ning Wanwan stopped thinking about it. She was just an ordinary person with no special abilities. Taking on too much responsibility from the start would only cause her to break down first.
Ning Wanwan lowered her head and continued to nibble on the bread she was holding.
Lin Ruowei was sitting in her luxury car when she caught a glimpse of the figure as she passed by.
"How did we run into her..."
Lin Ruowei frowned, glanced at it again, and then ignored it.
Oh well, anyway, after today she successfully went on a date with Jiang Chengran, so Ning Wanwan won't be of much use anymore.
Imagining herself climbing up to the Jiang family, receiving her father's praise, rising in status within the Lin family, and trampling Chen Wu underfoot... all the things she had dreamed of would come true, and Lin Ruowei curled her red lips into a smug smile.
As for the possibility of a failed date, Lin Ruowei never considered it. She was very confident in her appearance. If she couldn't handle Jiang Yuyuan, the head of the Jiang Group, could she not handle Jiang Chengran, the young master?
Lin Ruowei looked out the window, growing increasingly impatient. Just then, a few vibrant green branches suddenly whizzed past her eyes, startling her and snapping her out of her reverie. She frowned and scolded, "How can you drive like that?"
The driver apologized repeatedly, "I'm so sorry, miss! I don't know why, but lately the trees everywhere have grown too lush. Sometimes we don't have time to trim the branches and grass along the roadside, and this happens. Even the strange insects seem to have increased a lot more than before..."
Lin Ruowei felt that the driver's series of reasons were all just excuses.
The temperature clearly dropped a while ago, so how come the plants are growing so vigorously? And how fast can they grow?
It really was because of his poor driving skills.
Lin Ruowei planned to tell her father to fire the driver after she returned from her date.
Having figured out how to deal with the driver, Lin Ruowei soon put the matter out of her mind.
As the daughter of the prestigious Lin family, she has many things to care about. The most important matter at hand is involving Jiang Shi. How could such a small incident on the road, where the driver's poor driving caused her to be startled by a tree branch that scraped the glass, possibly attract the attention of Miss Lin?
Upon arriving at the East District amusement park, Lin Ruowei got out of the car and saw the red-haired boy waiting at the gate.
Because it was the weekend, Jiang Chengran wasn't wearing his school uniform today. Instead, he was dressed in casual clothes, which concealed his strong and lean physique, making him look like a slender high school boy.
Even her short, slightly wavy, bold red hair seemed to have become much softer and more docile.
Lin Ruowei was also deceived by Jiang Chengran's outfit, and had the illusion that the other party did not seem to have such a violent temper.
Her confidence in the date immediately increased.
Overwhelmed with confidence, Lin Ruowei stepped forward directly. She tossed her hair.
"Young Master Jiang, hello, I am Lin Ruowei."
"Who are you?" Jiang Chengran had to look away from outside and frowned.
Lin Ruowei was a little embarrassed: "I am the daughter of the Lin family, the Lin family that has cooperated with the Jiang family. You should have heard of my name..."
"Never heard of it, don't know, get out of the way." Jiang Chengran glanced at her impatiently, then turned his gaze back outside, trying to catch the figure of the girl he was waiting for.
Lin Ruowei stood there, and seeing that Jiang Chengran really didn't even glance at her, she couldn't help but turn pale.
Being ignored like this, she endured it, suppressing her temper as a spoiled young lady, and tried her best to speak softly and gently. After all, Jiang Chengran was not one of those sycophantic boys she could treat casually.
"Young Master Jiang, who are you waiting for?"
Lin Ruowei knew perfectly well who Jiang Chengran was probably waiting for, so she deliberately asked in order to break the deadlock.
Jiang Chengran ignored her, while Lin Ruowei's ulterior motives were too obvious.
Lin Ruowei persisted: "Young Master Jiang..."
After being deliberately disturbed time and again, the red-haired boy's expression turned cold: "Get lost. I don't have a habit of not hitting girls."
Jiang Chengran has very limited patience; he only gives it to those he wants to give it to.
Lin Ruowei bit her lip, knowing that if she didn't speak up now, she might not have another chance, and the other party might really throw her away without any politeness.
She quickly spoke faster, "Are you waiting for Ning Wanwan to not come?!"
Jiang Chengran's impatient expression suddenly froze, his gaze fixed on her: "What did you say?"
Jiang Chengran's expression no longer showed such obvious warning and annoyance towards Lin Ruowei, which made Lin Ruowei even more fearful for some reason.
She suppressed the chill running down her spine and straightened her posture: "I mean, Ning Wanwan has absolutely no chance of coming... Ah!"
She suddenly saw a hint of scarlet blood in Jiang Chengran's eyes, as cold and ferocious as a wild beast. Her weak instincts made her subconsciously take a few steps back, and her legs went weak, almost causing her to fall to the ground.
Jiang Chengran avoided it with disgust, decisively and cleanly.
"Tell me everything that happened." Although his eyes were tinged with an ominous red, Jiang Chengran's tone was surprisingly calm and low.
—Like the calm before the storm.
Lin Ruowei shuddered, suddenly regretting that she hadn't thought things through before rushing up to him and saying those things.
Her intention was to use Ning Wanwan's ruthlessness to highlight herself and attract Jiang Chengran's attention, so that Jiang Chengran would be willing to look at her properly.
But will things really turn out the way she wants?
