When Chen Jiandang returned with Chen Shuning's share of the food, he saw his sister tidying up the things on the kang (a heated brick bed) as soon as he entered the door.

Upon hearing this, Chen Jiandang jumped for joy and excitedly said, "Thank you, Brother He! Brother He, give me the firewood and go inside to rest."
This time, He Chaoyang didn't dodge. He handed the firewood in his hand to Chen Jiandang, and then went into the house and took out a polished wolf tooth with a leather rope attached from his military satchel and handed it to Chen Jiandang.
