Qin Yalan first washed the chicken, cut it into small pieces, put it in a pot, added an appropriate amount of water, and cooked it until the chicken was thoroughly cooked. Then, she took the chicken out, drained the water, and put it in a bowl for later use.
Next, add an appropriate amount of oil to the pot, heat it up, add scallions, ginger, and garlic to sauté until fragrant, then add an appropriate amount of soy sauce, sugar, salt, cooking wine, and other seasonings, and cook until thickened.
Finally, pour the cooked chicken into the pot, stir-fry evenly, add water and simmer, allowing the chicken to fully absorb the aroma of the seasonings.
Chen Shuning didn't know if other people's braised chicken was this complicated, but her mother's was definitely quite intricate, and she couldn't remember how she made it.
Just as Chen Shuning was getting dizzy from listening to Qin Yalan's cooking class, the sound of a bicycle bell suddenly came from outside the yard.
The bell rang crisply and melodiously, like a playful little bird singing. Chen Shuning's heart skipped a beat; she knew her father had returned.
He hurriedly put down the firewood he was holding and walked out of the kitchen, only to be hugged tightly by someone as soon as he stepped out. Then he heard the voice of his younger brother, Chen Jiandang, a boy going through puberty.
"Sis, sis, you're finally back! I've missed you so much!"
The boy's hair was a little messy, and he had a bright smile on his face, a genuine smile that he only showed in front of his family.
Chen Shuning was a little breathless from his hug, but felt incredibly warm inside. She patted Chen Jiandang's back and said, "Alright, alright, Mom said you're already working, why are you still acting like a little kid, so impulsive?"
Chen Jiandang chuckled and said, "I don't care, I just miss you. Sister, you know what? Ever since I came back from your place, I've been thinking about you every day, about the food you cooked, the stories you told me, and the times we went hunting in the mountains together."
Chen Shuning was initially touched, but as she listened, something felt off. She looked at him suspiciously and said, "Are you missing me?"
When did I tell you stories or take you hunting in the mountains? You seem to be thinking more about He Chaoyang than anything else.
Chen Jiandang scratched his head somewhat guiltily and said embarrassedly, "It's all the same, it's all the same. Missing you and missing my brother-in-law are the same, aren't they? Anyway, you'll be family soon, right?"
Even though Chen Shuning was thick-skinned enough, he still blushed deeply in front of his parents because of Chen Jiandang's words. He reached out and slapped Chen Jiandang's smiling face, scolding, "Same my ass! Look how dirty you are! Go wash your hands right now, you've gotten your clothes all dirty."
Although Chen Shuning looked disgusted, the care and love in his eyes were impossible to hide.
Chen Jiandang wasn't one to be ungrateful. He gave a clownish salute and said, "Yes, sir. I guarantee I'll complete the mission."
After saying that, he dashed into the kitchen, grabbed a basin, and mixed in hot water.
At this moment, Chen's father, who had parked the car, also came over, pointed at Chen Jiandang's back, and said with a smile, "This kid is getting more and more mischievous as he grows up. I think he only listens to you a little bit in our family."
Chen Shuning reached out and took the net bag from his father's hand, his heart filled with relief and happiness. He smiled and said, "He was alright when he was little, but now he only pays lip service to what I say. He's got his own agenda."
As she spoke, Chen Shuning looked down at the net bag she had just received from her father and was pleasantly surprised to find it was full of white pears.
He said happily, "These pears look really good, Dad. How did you know I wanted to eat pears?"
Chen Tiejun walked into the kitchen without turning his head and said, "Ah, that pear was brought over by your Uncle Dong. Your mother has been suffering from internal heat lately and keeps coughing at night, so I thought I'd get her some of this to boil and drink."
Well, I was just being presumptuous. Turns out, this wasn't even meant for me at all.
Just then, Chen Jiandang, who was carrying a washbasin, heard this and, upon seeing his sister's expression, immediately launched into a merciless mocking mode.
"Sister, you're overthinking it. Dad only cares about Mom now; even his son has to take a backseat."
Feeling somewhat embarrassed by the laughter, Chen Shuning became enraged and raised his hand to slap Chen Jiandang's shoulder again, but this time Chen Jiandang, who was on guard, skillfully dodged it.
Seeing his sister getting anxious, Chen Jiandang immediately smiled knowingly and joked, "Sister, don't worry, we're in the same boat."
Listen to me, last time Dad got an apple from somewhere, and as soon as he came in, he threw it at me and told me to wash it.
You know, I didn't think much of it at the time. I thought the apple was from my dad, so I took a bite after washing it. And let me tell you, this apple was really big and sweet.
I was carrying the apple, walking towards the house, but guess what happened next?
Chen Jiandang looked at his sister, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He deliberately kept her in suspense, wanting to see her reaction. His sister took the bait, asking anxiously, "What's wrong?"
Chen Jiandang was secretly delighted, knowing his little scheme had succeeded. He continued, "I had just reached the door when I saw Dad rush out of the kitchen, yelling, 'You brat! I finally managed to get this from Lao Du, intending to let your mother try it, and you ate it all?'"
It then dawned on me that the apple was saved by Dad for Mom. I felt so wronged. I said, "Dad, why didn't you say so sooner? How was I supposed to know it was for Mom? When you told me to wash it, I thought it was for me!"
This isn't my fault; you didn't explain it clearly.
Dad got even angrier when he heard that. He said, "You're still acting like you're wronged? I clearly told you to wash it, when did I tell you to eat it? Stealing food and still trying to argue? I'll break your legs!"
