The atmosphere improved considerably after that. District Chief Fang sent his secretary, Xiao Li, to take the group to see the house. The kind-hearted Aunt Wang wanted to go along, but District Chief Fang told her to stay behind because he had something to discuss with her.
This became a factor that made District Chief Fang even more regretful later on.
Xiao Li was a very talkative young man. On the way, he gave a general overview of the houses. Chen Shuning actually recognized several properties owned by important figures in the later period from Xiao Li's introduction.
Although the names were different, the events that happened to those important figures were quite similar, so Chen Shuning simply avoided those houses.
After calculating the money in his hand, besides the money he originally had, there was the money his parents gave him when he got married, the money from his grandparents and in-laws, and the gifts from He Chaoyang's friends. It should be enough for him to buy several properties.
In a great mood, I followed Xiao Li around asking him all sorts of questions, and I actually found several places that I liked, all of which were great locations where you could see the Bund from the upper floors.
He borrowed Xiao Li's notebook and pen and wrote down the house numbers of the houses he was interested in.
When I returned to the district government office, Aunt Wang had already gone home, and District Chief Fang was still buried in a pile of documents.
Xiao Li knocked on the door, and after receiving a response, he opened the door but did not go in himself. Instead, he opened the door with one hand and gestured for Chen Shuning and the others behind him to go inside on their own.
All that's left is to negotiate the price.
Fang Cheng originally thought that the three of them could only buy one house, so even though his wife said it was to solve his problem, he didn't pay much attention.
But when Chen Shuning handed District Chief Fang a notebook with the house numbers written down, saying that he wanted to buy these houses, District Chief Fang was so shocked that he couldn't close his mouth for a long time.
There are a total of eleven properties, all of which are large, three-story buildings with yards, making them difficult to manage.
Fang Cheng, somewhat disbelieving his senses, rubbed his eyes and scratched his ears. Finally, he looked at He Chaoyang, who seemed more like the one in charge, and asked incredulously, "Buy all eleven houses?"
When they went house hunting, He Chaoyang and Chen Jianjun, having not seen each other for a long time, mostly followed behind Chen Shuning and Xiao Li, chatting. Neither of them noticed that Chen Shuning was scribbling something on a piece of paper.
Hearing that Chen Shuning wanted to buy eleven houses, he was taken aback for a moment, then nodded nonchalantly and replied, "If my wife says she wants to buy, then she will. If there are any difficulties with the policy, we can discuss it later."
These days, having more houses and land makes people more likely to be labeled as landlords or capitalists.
However, no matter the era, there are always policies from above and countermeasures from below. Not to mention others, even this District Chief Fang owns more than one property.
Upon hearing He Chaoyang's words, Chen Jianjun also became uneasy. He quickly reached out and pulled He Chaoyang aside, asking in a low voice, "Chaoyang, buying a house is no small matter. Buying one is enough; how can you buy so many at once?"
He Chaoyang nonchalantly pulled his sleeve back from Chen Jianjun's hand and replied with a smile, "Shuning doesn't have any other hobbies, she just likes houses. If she likes one, she can just buy it. Anyway, these things won't spoil."
Staring blankly at He Chaoyang, who spoke with such nonchalance, Chen Jianjun was truly dumbfounded. He stammered, "Chaoyang, you can't spoil her like this!"
Then she looked at her younger sister and said, "Shuning, you can't spend your money like this. Why buy so many houses all at once? You don't come to Haishi often."
"If you really have money and want to buy a house, why not buy one back in Beijing? If you buy there, your parents can help take care of you when they have free time."
Chen Shuning, who was already negotiating the price with the district head, looked unimpressed when he heard his older brother's words. His words almost made Chen Jianjun bite his tongue.
Chen Shuning turned around and glanced at Chen Jianjun, saying, "They also bought some in Beijing. It was all thanks to Brother He's friends who helped take care of them."
As for Haishi, I'll probably have to trouble you to come over and look around for me sometime. If you like any of them, you can move there."
Chen Shuning dared not tell his parents about buying so many houses, so he asked Jiang Xinmin and the others to help take care of them.
There's a bit of a problem in Haishi, though. Her brother is in the military year-round, and it's unclear whether he'll have time to help look after the house.
Although this house won't deteriorate, it still needs to be checked on periodically; otherwise, it won't do if it's left unattended for a long time.
As if sensing Chen Shuning's concerns, He Chaoyang chimed in, "It's inconvenient for you to be in the army, so you don't need to worry about looking after the house. I'll find someone to help you. You can also give me a key to all of them, so you can stay there when you're on leave."
That's why Chen Shuning is said to be a bit muddle-headed, even though her mother-in-law speaks in a gentle and soft voice, like a girl from the South.
She had heard that He Chaoyang's maternal grandparents couldn't come to the wedding due to health reasons, but she didn't ask any other questions.
Therefore, Chen Shuning is still unaware that He Chaoyang's maternal grandparents were actually from Haishi.
Chen Shuning had no relatives in her previous life and was somewhat indifferent to family ties. So, although she has many relatives in this life, she can only think about repaying those who are good to her. She doesn't care much about relatives she has never met.
In the end, Chen Shuning successfully bought the eleven houses she had her eye on.
In the 1960s, not many people could come up with so much money to buy a house all at once, so Fang Cheng became curious about the two young men who could come up with so much money all at once and planned to send someone to investigate them later.
