After clearing the snow from in front of his house and Gu Xinyi's house, Chen Shuning discovered that the beef was still not fully marinated.
So she decided to go out again and clear the snow in front of Xu Laidi's house as well.
Next, Chen Shuning went to the woodshed and got a pheasant, intending to add some medicinal herbs and simmer it over a low flame to make a nourishing chicken soup, so that He Chaoyang could drink it when he returned.
After busy preparing the pheasant and putting it in the pot, Chen Shuning felt dizzy and her legs even felt weak.
She knew that this was probably because she hadn't eaten for too long. Although she still didn't have much of an appetite, Chen Shuning was well aware that if she didn't eat soon, her body might not be able to take it.
However, at this moment she had no desire to cook at all.
So Chen Shuning stopped hesitating, took out a bowl of jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) from the Korean restaurant in the space, and then ate a few bites in a whirlwind.
Throw the remaining dough back into the space. By this time, the beef should be almost fully marinated and ready to be baked.
However, making smoked beef jerky is a rather time-consuming and somewhat tedious process.
Before the first batch of smoked food was even successfully smoked, Chen Shuning had already begun to regret why he had chosen such a boring, mindless, and extremely tedious thing to pass the time.
After all, she was sitting in front of the stove mechanically flipping the grill tongs, feeling incredibly bored.
It was precisely because she had so much free time that she had more opportunities to daydream—like about He Chaoyang, who risked going into the mountains in such terrible weather.
The more Chen Shuning thought about it, the more confused she became, and the more worried she grew...
Less than half an hour later, Chen Shuning couldn't sit still any longer. She stuffed all the beef that wasn't fully cooked or hadn't even been started cooking into the oven in the space.
Since he couldn't calm himself down no matter what he did, Chen Shuning simply got dressed quickly and headed towards the back mountain.
As Chen Shuning walked up the winding path worn down by people, he stopped and started along the way, picking up some dry, flammable firewood from the roadside to use in order to pass the time.
Because she knew that the furthest she could reach was the edge of the deep mountains. If she went any further in, even with her spatial ability, she wouldn't be able to find anyone in that primeval forest, let alone go in. She might even get lost.
So instead of waiting on the edge of the deep mountains early, it's better to gather some firewood along the way. This winter not only got cold early, but the temperature is also frighteningly low, so it's always good to prepare more firewood.
Just as piles of dry branches and rotten wood were stacked up like mountains in the courtyard of Chen Shuning's space, a series of increasingly urgent gunshots suddenly came from the depths of the mountains.
This sudden turn of events startled Chen Shuning quite a bit! You see, the gunshots that just rang out at this moment most likely meant that He Chaoyang's group or the hunting team had encountered some kind of life-threatening situation, otherwise, the gunshots that were so loud, sudden, and frequent would definitely not be normal!
Upon hearing the gunshot, Chen Shuning didn't hesitate and immediately ran frantically towards the direction from which the gunshot came.
However, the terrain of Daqingshan is undulating and crisscrossed with ravines. Although the gunshots may sound like they are coming from not far away, they are actually quite far away when you run.
To make matters worse, the gunfire lasted for less than ten minutes before abruptly stopping, causing Chen Shuning to lose her way while running. Helpless, she could only rely on her memory of the approximate location to continue sprinting forward.
Fortunately, fate was kind to this kind and brave girl—after running for more than twenty minutes, Chen Shuning finally faintly heard the voices of many people talking.
Chen Shuning listened carefully and quickly distinguished several familiar voices from the noisy crowd, realizing that He Chaoyang and his group had found someone.
This sudden change instantly relieved the tension that had been hanging over Chen Shuning's heart, but then an indescribable worry welled up in her mind.
She couldn't wait to run towards the source of the sound.
As they got closer, Chen Shuning finally saw the figure clearly—the one walking at the front was none other than her own man!
At this moment, He Chaoyang was carrying someone on his back and was running down the mountain at an astonishing speed.
Chen Shuning had sharp eyes and immediately noticed that He Chaoyang's clothes on his shoulder were stained red with blood.
Was it He Chaoyang who was injured, or the person on his back? For a moment, Chen Shuning was extremely anxious but had no way of knowing, and her heart clenched tightly once again.
Without a second thought, she took off running straight towards He Chaoyang.
In order to get to her husband's side as soon as possible, Chen Shuning resolutely chose to abandon the relatively flat path and instead cross the dense bushes.
The branches lashed mercilessly at her face, causing sharp stings, but she couldn't care less. Only one thought occupied her mind: Faster! Faster!
It's no wonder Chen Shuning was so anxious. After all, He Chaoyang had been frequently injured recently, and the terrifying gunshot just now made her very worried.
Standing at a distance, He Chaoyang's gaze pierced through the dense branches and bushes, and he immediately spotted that familiar figure—Chen Shuning.
Although he was quite displeased that she had to go up the mountain in such freezing weather, He Chaoyang knew that his wife's visit was out of concern for his safety.
