Chapter 248 Meeting

After a long journey of most of the day, Chen Shuning's medical team finally arrived at the disaster area.

However, since arriving in this land, she has been preoccupied with the intense rescue work and has not been able to step out of the temporary hospital.

The reason is simple: the bustling scene here is overwhelming.

Over the past half-day, a steady stream of People's Liberation Army soldiers escorted survivors to this location. The large number of wounded they brought kept Chen Shuning completely occupied.

However, as time passed, Chen Shuning never had the chance to look for He Chaoyang.

As Chen Shuning spent more time in the disaster area, his unease grew stronger.

She always had a bad feeling, as if something terrible was about to happen. This feeling of panic was always with her and wouldn't go away.

As night was about to fall, Chen Shuning had just finished changing the dressings of a wounded soldier when he noticed a troop of soldiers pouring into the gate.

They carried, hugged, or slung many wounded soldiers, rushing to the scene. The already understaffed temporary hospital was thrown into chaos, filled with the painful cries of the wounded.

In this critical moment where every second counts and time is as precious as life itself, no one waits for instructions or arrangements from others before taking action; instead, they immediately throw themselves into whatever comes their way without hesitation.

Having just stepped out of the tent and witnessed this scene, Chen Shuning did not hesitate to shoulder the medical kit and rush towards the crowd like an arrow.

Just as Chen Shuning rushed into the crowd to take over the treatment of the wounded, his gaze was suddenly drawn to a familiar and tall figure.

No matter how many people were around, that man was always the most eye-catching presence.

At this moment, He Chaoyang was holding a little girl who looked to be about three or four years old in his arms.

The little girl was covered in blood, and she clung tightly to He Chaoyang's neck, as if she regarded him as her last lifeline.

Even in such a warm embrace, the girl's body still trembled like a leaf in the cold wind.

Upon seeing this, Chen Shuning rushed over anxiously, and at that moment He Chaoyang also noticed Chen Shuning's arrival.

Unexpectedly, however, he stared at Chen Shuning's abdomen without moving, as if he were under a spell, his eyes filled with indescribable complex emotions, as if he wanted to see through Chen Shuning's belly into her stomach.

Only when Chen Shuning approached did He Chaoyang speak with a grim expression, asking, "How did you get here? And with the child..."

If any other soldier in the unit saw He Chaoyang with such an expression, they would probably be afraid.

But Chen Shuning was not afraid at all. While anxiously checking the girl in He Chaoyang's arms for her injuries, she replied, "Don't worry, our son is safe and sound. He's living like a little emperor at his grandma's house right now."

As for why I'm here, I'll tell you about it later when I have more time.

While speaking, Chen Shuning had already roughly checked the child's injuries. Seeing that there was nothing serious, she breathed a sigh of relief and said, "At present, there are no obvious signs of serious injury on the child's body, but it is very likely that he was greatly frightened, which led to excessive mental stress."

You quickly take the child to the third tent at the back, where there are people specifically assigned to take care of children in this situation.

Seeing He Chaoyang standing unharmed in front of her, Chen Shuning's tense and flustered feeling eased slightly.

Although there are countless things I want to say, this is not the right time, because there are still too many wounded people in urgent need of treatment.

Clearly, He Chaoyang was also busy, as all the injured were from Tangshi Mining Vocational and Technical College.

The little girl and her mother were found in the school's faculty and staff dormitory building; both parents were trapped under precast concrete slabs.

The child's father was found dead, while the child's mother died after being rescued.

When they found the mother and daughter under the rubble, the mother was kneeling on the ground, tightly holding her child in her arms, using her slender and frail back to create a safe haven for her child during the earthquake.

Under her mother's protection, the child was almost unharmed except for some scratches, while the mother suffered fractures of varying degrees in her spine, arms, and thighs.

Even so, this strong mother persisted in kneeling, firmly creating a safe haven for her child.

When the mother and daughter were rescued, everyone at the scene was deeply moved, and they were profoundly touched by the great maternal love shown by the mother.

It's hard to imagine how much pain this mother endured to survive multiple fractures and hold on until the rescuers arrived, thus successfully giving her child a second chance at life.

The injured all came from the same place—a collapsed three-story faculty dormitory. Furthermore, several rows of single-story student dormitories lay behind it, but due to the severe damage, almost none of them had any survivors.

During the critical period of rescue efforts, saving lives must always be their top priority.

By the time all the wounded had been properly cared for and treated, it was completely dark.

At this moment, Chen Shuning felt his head become unusually heavy and his body became somewhat unsteady.

After all, she had only eaten a piece of bread since noon and hadn't even had time to drink water.

Because she hadn't eaten for a long time and was overworked, she was suddenly overcome with dizziness the moment she stepped out of the tent, which almost made her fall to the ground.
