Chapter 29 An Encounter at the Post Office

Never mind, anyway, this person's name matches the one her brother wrote in his letter, and he can accurately say her and her brother's names. Although she may have heard her name on the train, the military uniform shouldn't be fake, so this person shouldn't be a human trafficker... right?

Chen Shuning, who casually categorized people as "good people," didn't stand on ceremony and led the person directly to her pile of sacks. She first greeted the lady behind the counter, then returned and nervously twisted her fingers, muttering softly, "Um, there's a lot of stuff. I don't know if it will fit in the car."

He Chaoyang clearly hadn't expected there to be so much stuff. Luckily, he drove over today, otherwise he really didn't know how the little girl would have managed to carry all of this back.

He turned around, went to the door, and waved to the outside. A moment later, a young man dressed in military uniform ran over.

He Chaoyang pointed to the things on the ground and said, "Give me a hand and help me move these things onto the truck."

As he spoke, He Chaoyang took the lead and carried two burlap sacks out of the post office. Soldiers are all strong, and He Chaoyang deliberately left the burlap sack containing the bedding to Shen Chunxi. So, the four burlap sacks that Chen Shuning had gone through so much trouble were carried out by the two of them, one in each hand.

After a moment of stunned surprise, Chen Shuning immediately chased after him.

The military jeep was parked on the roadside outside the post office. When Chen Shuning came out, he saw the two of them stuffing sacks into the back seat of the vehicle.

The four large sacks took up the entire back seat space, making Chen Shuning even more embarrassed. She leaned closer to He Chaoyang and whispered her thanks.

"Thank you, Brother He. I'm really grateful to have met you today. Otherwise, I really wouldn't know how to get these things back."

"It's not a coincidence, our battalion commander came here specifically to pick you up."

Shen Chunxi had just arrived at his doorstep and put down his luggage, wanting to try the hand-pulled noodles his mother had specially made for him. But before he could even pick up the bowl, this person grabbed him and dragged him to town to pick him up.

Worried about scaring the little girl away, He Chaoyang quickly kicked Shen Chunxi in the butt and scolded, "What nonsense are you spouting? There's no room in the cart. Do you know where to sit on the oxcart back to the village?"

Upon seeing the battalion commander's expression, Shen Chunxi, who had just been kicked, shrank back, replied "I know," and ran towards the town entrance.

Shen Chunxi's words made the two people next to the car look embarrassed, but for the sake of his two legs, Chen Shuning still gritted his teeth, opened the door and got into the car.

After He Chaoyang got on the bus, Chen Shuning's face was still flushed. To ease the embarrassment, Chen Shuning lowered her head and twisted her fingers, explaining in a low voice, "I'm really sorry, Brother He. I didn't expect my mom's and brother's packages to arrive at the same time, which made your comrade have to take an oxcart."

“It’s alright. He’s a soldier, tough and thick-skinned. Riding an oxcart won’t tire him out. But you, your brigade is quite far from the town. If I really let you ride an oxcart back in this sweltering heat, your brother will be furious with me.”

He Chaoyang got into the car, started the engine, and gently turned the steering wheel with his large, well-defined hands. The car smoothly turned onto the main road and headed towards the Qingshan Brigade.

He Chaoyang's main purpose this time was to get the little girl. Sending his comrades off was just a side trip, and he also wanted to find a free guide. Now that he has run the route once, he knows it by heart, so he naturally doesn't need the guide anymore. It's a typical case of crossing the river and then burning the bridge.
