Chapter 54 Breakfast

The next morning, Chen Shuning was woken up by the buzzing of her phone again. The first thing she did after getting up was to go to the kitchen, light the fire, and boil water to cook dumplings.

Then I took out the things I had prepared yesterday from the space and put them on the table on the floor.

After everything was ready, Chen Shuning glanced at her watch. It was only 4:30, and it was still dark outside. She carried the oil lamp to the kitchen.

Seeing that the water in the pot had boiled, Chen Shuning hurriedly put the dumplings into the pot, afraid that He Chaoyang would come over at this time and find that the dumplings were frozen, which would be difficult to explain.

The two had already made an appointment yesterday; He Chaoyang would come to his place for breakfast before leaving.

Originally, He Chaoyang didn't plan to bother Chen Shuning to get up so early to cook for him because he was leaving so early. He said he would just buy something to eat on the way when they got to town.

But since they came specifically to help Chen Shuning, how could Chen Shuning let them leave so early in the morning without even having a hot meal?

He Chaoyang only agreed to come over for breakfast before leaving after Chen Shuning almost turned hostile, though he still felt a little sorry for her and wanted to come over to help as soon as possible.

To his surprise, when he arrived, thinking it was already quite early, the little girl had already started cooking the dumplings.

When He Chaoyang learned that the pile of things on the table were all prepared by Chen Shuning for him, he was completely dumbfounded.

"Shuning, what time did you get up to prepare all this?"

As Chen Shuning was stirring the dumplings, she looked up and saw He Chaoyang standing with one foot in and one foot out of the door, looking shocked. Feeling a little guilty, she lowered her head and whispered, "It wasn't that early. The kimchi was made last night. Everything else was easy and didn't take long."

"Brother He, I saw that you really liked these pepper and salt biscuits last time, so I made a lot more. Now that the weather is getting cooler, these things can be kept for a few days. These pepper and salt biscuits are still delicious when they're cold, so you can keep them as a snack and eat them slowly."

The same goes for the kimchi. When you get back, remember to add some water to the mouth of the jar. If you seal it like that, it can last for four or five months.

And that jar with the red ribbon tied to it contains milk tea, which I brewed this morning. You can drink this if you get thirsty on the way. I just didn't have a suitable container, so I used this kimchi jar. But don't worry, this jar is new and hasn't been used to pickle vegetables yet, so it has no taste.

At this point, Chen Shuning felt increasingly guilty, because it wasn't just the milk tea; many other things had actually been prepared yesterday and stored in the basement of the space.

There's no way around it. She can stay up all night, no matter how late, but once she falls asleep, it's really difficult to wake her up, especially now that the temperature is getting colder every day. Leaving the warm bed is just too painful.

The reason why Chen Shuning felt increasingly guilty as she spoke was because she had a habit since childhood: she was not very good at lying, and she would unconsciously lick her lips whenever she lied.

So later, whenever she lied, she would unconsciously lower her head to cover up this flaw.

As Chen Shuning introduced the things she had prepared one by one, He Chaoyang felt a mix of emotions.

When he first came to Heilongjiang Province, his grandmother and mother also gave him instructions on what to prepare.

The sight of the little girl in front of him unconsciously reminded him of his grandmother and mother at home.

Over the years, although there have been many people around him who wanted to curry favor with him, only the little girl in front of him could make him feel the warmth of family like Chen Shuning.

If the girls who might like him heard this, they would probably be indignant.

Heaven knows we also want to give you the warmth of family, but that requires you to give us the opportunity.

You know, normally we don't even get a chance to eat together, let alone have a conversation. Where are we supposed to find an opportunity to give you the warmth of family?

Of course, Young Master He Chaoyang didn't care about any of that. In short, his little girl was good in every way. He was just really heartbroken that she had gotten up so early to prepare all this for him.

Silently, she took the strainer and plate from Chen Shuning, scooped out the cooked dumplings, and was about to go inside when she suddenly remembered that the table was now covered with things the little girl had prepared for her.

He turned to look at Chen Shuning, raised the plate in his hand, and asked Chen Shuning with his eyes where they should eat breakfast.

Because it was too early, and there was still a long time before work started, it was impossible for Wang Chunni and Xu Laidi to come over for dinner so early. Besides, these dumplings were specially prepared by Chen Shuning for He Chaoyang.

Although she didn't lack these things, as educated youth sent to the countryside, their lives weren't luxurious enough to eat dumplings so early in the morning. So, the dumplings weren't for the other two; Chen Shuning only prepared one for He Chaoyang.

Chen Shuning herself didn't plan to eat with He Chaoyang either, because she really didn't like dumplings.

Understanding He Chaoyang's meaning, Chen Shuning pointed somewhat apologetically to the small stool in front of the stove and said, "Um, I'm sorry, Brother He, the room is too small, and we couldn't find a place to put everything, so we just piled it all on the table. So you might have to make do with what you have here."

Seeing Chen Shuning lower her head again, looking somewhat unsure of what to do with her hands and feet, He Chaoyang knew that the dumplings were probably specially prepared for him by the little girl.

Moreover, judging from the amount of food the little girl has prepared in the past two days, these two plates of dumplings should be prepared for him alone. He understood the little girl's true thoughts almost instantly.

Also, it was dark outside, and it wouldn't be appropriate for the two of them, a man and a woman, to eat together in the house. So, without being coy, they put the plates on the stove and plopped down on the small stools to start eating.
