Chapter 60 Losing Money

To be precise, it's not snow, but rather small ice particles formed when rainwater encounters cold air.

The ground, which was originally wet from the rain, has now frozen over. Small ice particles, scattered by the howling north wind, cover the ice surface layer by layer, like a beautiful, crystal-clear carpet.

Chen Shuning, who was already sensitive to the cold, had even less desire to go out after seeing the weather.

She drew the curtains and slipped into the space. It had been almost a month since she transmigrated to the countryside. Chen Shuning, who was always busy buying and selling things or working, hadn't had such a leisurely time in a long time.

Since she didn't have to work today, and she had spent most of last night dealing with two patients, she wouldn't be surprised if someone came over and she pretended to have just woken up.

So Chen Shuning decided that if no one came today, he would stay in the space for the whole day.

Upon entering the space, Chen Shuning first went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for herself. Having not had a Western-style breakfast for a long time, Chen Shuning made herself a honey nut toast, a fried egg, a fruit salad, and a cup of fat-burning coffee, which made her very satisfied.

Because the fruit in the space smelled so strong, Chen Shuning rarely ate any fruit lately, for fear that people would notice and it would be difficult to explain.

Even when he's really craving something, he only dares to eat a little bit of mild-tasting fruit like apples and pears. He wouldn't even dare to touch fruits like strawberries or durians, and he wouldn't even think about barbecue or hot pot.

So Chen Shuning plans to eat all the things she's been craving but hasn't been able to eat lately today.

So much so that Chen Shuning, who had just finished breakfast, started preparing lunch.

For lunch, Chen Shuning planned to have hot pot and barbecue, which are her favorite foods.

But who would have thought that just as Chen Shuning had taken the hot pot out and hadn't even started preparing the ingredients, he heard a commotion outside.

Chen Shuning, who originally didn't want to pay attention, could only curse his bad luck as the noise grew louder and louder, and then left the space.

After all, it would be strange if you didn't show up when there was such a loud noise.

Once outside, Chen Shuning noticed that it was snowing, so she took out the cotton-padded trousers her mother had made for her, put on the cotton-padded coat she had found yesterday, and went out.

As soon as they stepped outside, they saw Zhong Lingling, supported by Wang Wenqi, blocking Yang Wanqiu's door and talking to her. There were also many onlookers around them.

Many people came out wearing clothes, and they looked much like Chen Shuning, having rushed out to see what was going on after hearing the noise while they were still in bed.

“Yang Wanqiu, I saw the money when I got my medicine after dinner yesterday, but it was gone this morning. And everyone saw that no one except you went into my room last night. If you didn’t take the money, who did? Did it grow legs and run away?”

Yang Wanqiu did go to Zhong Lingling's room yesterday, but only because there were too many people in Wang Wenfang's room at the time, and she had an injury on her leg. She also saw Wang Wenfang running to that room crying, so she went there to comfort Wang Wenfang.

You have to understand that this person is not very bright and easy to manipulate, so Yang Wanqiu is naturally willing to spend some time befriending such a person.

However, she really only comforted Wang Wenfang and, incidentally, subtly sowed discord between her and Zhong Lingling as usual; she did nothing else.

But to my surprise, this morning I was blocked at the door by that crazy woman Zhong Lingling, who accused me of stealing her money.

Even if she did steal it, she can't just admit it like that.

So Yang Wanqiu stood in the doorway and shouted, "Zhong Lingling, are you out of your mind because of a fever? You're acting like a mad dog and biting people first thing in the morning. Putting aside whether you really lost money or not, even if you did, what evidence do you have to say that I stole it?"

"Zhong Lingling, let me tell you, if you can't produce any evidence today, I'll go to the brigade leader and report you for slander."

Thinking that it was all her possessions, a full 248 yuan, she had originally planned to go to town after the autumn harvest to buy some good things to nourish Wenqi's body.

But who would have thought that Wenqi would say he wouldn't be working today? She was feeling a bit better, and since it was a rare day off, and they had run out of chicken cakes, cookies, and other treats, she decided to go to town with Wenqi to buy some things.

To her surprise, when she went to the cabinet to get the money, she found that the cookie box where she usually kept her money was empty; there wasn't a single bill or ticket left.

Even though her family was well-off, two hundred yuan was still a considerable sum, not to mention all the tickets involved. How could Zhong Lingling not be anxious?

Thinking that many people had come to see her yesterday while she was sick, she hurried to the front yard to inquire. She learned that although many people had come to see her yesterday, they had all stayed in the outer room and Wang Wenfang's room. Only Wang Wenfang and Yang Wanqiu had been to her room.

Zhong Lingling, who never imagined that her sister-in-law would take her money, immediately went to Yang Wanqiu's place and made a scene.

“I wasn’t the only one who went to your room, and I only stayed in your room for a short while. Not to mention I didn’t even know where you kept your money, even if I did know, Wenfang was in the room at the time. Tell me how I managed to steal your money in front of Wenfang in less than ten minutes?”

"Zhong Lingling, let me tell you, although my family isn't wealthy, we wouldn't do something as despicable as stealing money. If you don't apologize to me today, then we'll go to the brigade headquarters and have a serious talk. Let everyone judge for me how you should be dealt with for arbitrarily framing a revolutionary comrade!"
