Chapter 66 Who Came?

Gu Xinyi didn't care how the captain distributed the dozen or so aspirin pills. Anyway, the supplies had already been given away. Although it hurt her heart, there was nothing she could do. After all, no one could bear the reputation of refusing to help someone in distress.

However, this incident only fueled her hatred for Tian Mi. She thought that no matter whether she and Gao Hongyuan would end up together, she would never let Tian Mi have it easy. At least for now, since Tian Mi had made her unhappy, Tian Mi would not be happy either.

So Gu Xinyi, who had given the medicine, didn't go back to her own room, but went directly to the room where Gao Hongyuan and Wang Zhi were staying.

Since it was a male room, she couldn't just go in directly. Also, to avoid upsetting Tian Mi, Gu Xinyi simply stood outside and called Gao Hongyuan out. After all, they were boyfriend and girlfriend, so it was normal for her to call her boyfriend.

Sure enough, as soon as Gu Xinyi called out, Gao Hongyuan, who was just worrying about his girlfriend ignoring him, responded and darted out like a rabbit.

Meanwhile, Tian Mi, who lived next door to the two of them, naturally heard Gu Xinyi calling Gao Hongyuan. She had just taken off one shoe to get on the kang (heated brick bed) to warm up, and ran out without even having time to put her shoes back on.

There was nothing she could do. She wanted to sit on the kang (a heated brick bed) and secretly watch what Gu Xinyi was planning to do with Gao Hongyuan, but unfortunately, they were only temporarily renting a house built in the village. Naturally, the construction of houses in the village was all about affordability, so apart from Chen Shuning, Zhong Lingling, and Gu Xinyi, who built their own houses and used glass windows, the rest of the houses in the backyard still had those old-fashioned window paper coverings.

The kind where you don't even need to draw the curtains at night.

Gu Xinyi glanced at Tian Mi, who had run out wearing only one shoe, and felt as warm and comforted as if she had drunk a cup of hot milk tea on a cold day.

She deliberately leaned close to Gao Hongyuan's ear and whispered, "There's still a piece of salted pork left from before the autumn harvest. I'm planning to make your favorite steamed salted pork tonight. Could you come over early and help me start the fire?"

Gao Hongyuan readily agreed to such a small matter. He was originally worried about how to coax Gu Xinyi, so he nodded and said hastily, "Okay, I'll go over and light the fire for you right now. It's unbearable to stay in the house without a fire in this weather."

As Gao Hongyuan spoke, he reached for Gu Xinyi's hand, but Gu Xinyi, who was still somewhat angry, instinctively tried to pull away.

But when Gu Xinyi caught sight of Tian Mi standing at the door, glaring at them angrily, she immediately stopped, her foot already raised to step back, and stood still, letting Gao Hongyuan hold her hand.

Seeing the two of them being so affectionate, Tian Mi was so angry she almost exploded. She turned around, ran back into the house, buried her head on the kang (a heated brick bed), and started sobbing.

Zhang Tingting, who shared a room with Tian Mi, looked at her like this and cursed her as an idiot in her heart, but on the surface she gently comforted her.

In fact, Zhang Tingting didn't want Tian Mi to get together with Gao Hongyuan so soon. After all, Gao Hongyuan wasn't as foolish as the one in front of her. If the two of them really got together, it wouldn't be so easy for her to take advantage of Tian Mi in the future.

But she couldn't let Tian Mi completely lose faith in Gao Hongyuan, because with the Tian family's power, they could send Tian Mi back to the city at any time.

So this current situation is the best. In her heart, Zhang Tingting actually hopes that Gao Hongyuan can keep Tian Mi hanging on like this, neither too close nor too distant.

Otherwise, given Zhang Tingting's cunning, she would have already figured out that as long as she used the fact that Gao Hongyuan's parents were on the farm as leverage, Gao Hongyuan would never disregard his parents' safety and choose Gu Xinyi.

This is also why Zhang Tingting thinks Tian Mi is stupid; how could this pig-brain not think of such a simple method?

There are quite a few smart people in the Tian family, so they obviously wouldn't have missed this. This can only mean that the Tian family doesn't actually want Tian Mi and Gao Hongyuan to get married, since the Gao family's current situation is of no help to the Tian family at all.

So as long as he could secretly help Gao Hongyuan keep Tian Mi around, Tian Mi's life in the countryside wouldn't be difficult.

Zhang Tingting was still using her old tricks to coax Tian Mi, but after Gao Hongyuan chased after her yesterday despite Gu Xinyi's disregard, Tian Mi was easily appeased by Zhang Tingting.

Then Zhang Tingting happily dragged Tian Mi to find villagers to exchange melon seeds.

A few days ago, Zhang Tingting had been craving sunflower seeds after seeing Chen Shuning eating them, but they were too busy with the autumn harvest these days and couldn't find the time. Luckily, the snow had lightened a bit, so Zhang Tingting coaxed Tian Mi to go out and exchange them for sunflower seeds.

Gao Hongyuan was unaware of how Zhang Tingting was using his name to coax Tian Mi. At this moment, looking at his smiling girlfriend, Gao Hongyuan's heart, which had been in suspense for more than a day, finally settled down.

After coaxing Tian Mi last night, he went to Gu Xinyi's room, but no matter how much he knocked on the window, no one inside answered.

Because it was the middle of the night, and he didn't dare to shout for help, he could only reluctantly go back to his room.

I got up early this morning to coax her, but this time my girlfriend didn't break up with me and Wang Zhi like she did last time. She cooked and ate as usual, but didn't say a word to me. Wang Zhi would occasionally respond to her.

So from last night until just now, his heart was in his throat.

Gao Hongyuan thought that it wouldn't do if Tian Mi kept making a fuss like this, so he decided to tell Gu Xinyi about his family's situation.

So he took Gu Xinyi's hand and went to her room. Although they were boyfriend and girlfriend, it wouldn't sound good if unmarried men and women shared a room in this day and age, so Gao Hongyuan didn't close the door.
