Chapter 74 The Little Moves Behind the Scenes

Yang Wanqiu wanted this effect. She was genuinely terrified of Chen Shuning, and she knew better than anyone that what she was saying was baseless. So naturally, she wouldn't be too explicit, but would only say ambiguous things to let Wang Wenfang imagine for herself.

Wang Wenfang, just as she thought, misunderstood the situation, and Yang Wanqiu secretly gloated over her cleverness.

Then she looked around mysteriously, as if afraid someone would hear her, and whispered to Wang Wenfang, "You silly girl, what you see is only the surface. Do you know why Chen Shuning didn't come with everyone to collect firewood today?"

Yang Wanqiu's appearance successfully piqued Wang Wenfang's curiosity, and she quickly leaned closer and whispered, "Didn't Tiedan come over and say someone was looking for her? Why didn't she come?"

At this point, Wang Wenfang seemed to remember something, covered her mouth with both hands, and exclaimed in disbelief, "Oh my god, Sister Wanqiu, could it be that soldier who came looking for her again? He's only been gone a few days, and he's back again?"

Looking at Wang Wenfang's startled appearance, Yang Wanqiu really couldn't stand it. But then she thought it was fine, because her carefree attitude would make it easier for her to scheme against her.

Although she didn't think much of it, Yang Wanqiu still affectionately pulled Wang Wenfang a few steps toward a less crowded area.

Then, while picking up even more branches than before, he whispered, "Keep your voice down. We're all comrades living in the same educated youth settlement. It wouldn't be good for her if these words got out."

"Oh, I know! Sister Wanqiu, hurry up and tell me, is it that soldier who came looking for Chen Shuning again?"

Wang Wenfang's biggest concern right now is whether He Chaoyang has come again, because she just heard Yang Wanqiu say that Gu Xinyi likes He Chaoyang.

So if it really is He Chaoyang who comes, shouldn't she try to match him up with Gu Xinyi? If Gu Xinyi isn't standing in the way, then Brother Gao might just fall for her.

However, Yang Wanqiu's next words disappointed her. Yang Wanqiu deliberately piled the branches she had picked up at Wang Wenfang's feet and said with a mysterious smile, "Although it wasn't He Chaoyang himself who came, it's almost the same as him coming."

Wang Wenfang's already not-so-good brain was completely dumbfounded by Yang Wanqiu's words. However, there was one thing that deserves praise for this child: she didn't hesitate to ask questions when she didn't understand.

Now that her curiosity was piqued, Wang Wenfang stopped picking up firewood and grabbed Yang Wanqiu, asking, "Hey Wanqiu, stop keeping me in suspense and tell me what happened! What do you mean by 'it's almost as if it wasn't the real person who came'?"

Yang Wanqiu talked to Wang Wenfang, who was so brainless, for a long time just to get her to spread the word that Chen Shuning had a room full of coal.

Although she didn't see the exact number, with so many people making so many trips back and forth, how could there be a small number?

Anyway, rumors tend to get more and more outrageous as they spread, and in the end, even if there wasn't a room full of them, there would be.

That's exactly the result she wanted: to make more people hostile towards Chen Shuning out of jealousy, and it would be even better if they could cause her trouble from time to time.

She didn't care who knew about the other things, anyway, she didn't really believe that the coal was sent by Chen Shuning's brother who was serving in the military in the southern region. It was more likely that He Chaoyang had someone send it to Chen Shuning.

It has to be said that Yang Wanqiu's brain is quite capable if she doesn't use it all for crooked and evil purposes.

There was a reason why Yang Wanqiu associated this incident with He Chaoyang.

Others might not know, but she, who had always paid close attention to He Chaoyang, could see it clearly: the way He Chaoyang looked at Chen Shuning was clearly one of affection, just like the way Gao Hongyuan looked at Chen Shuning in their previous life.

That kind of look was something she had longed for but never had in both of her lives, which made her even more resentful. Why could Chen Shuning so easily possess what she had been striving so hard for but could never obtain?

The burning jealousy that was growing wildly in her heart had long since burned away what little reason Yang Wanqiu had left, making her forget Chen Shuning's warning and also forget that the current Chen Shuning was no longer the naive girl who could be fooled by her words.

So when he saw that Wang Wenfang, that stupid fish, had already taken the bait, he slowly gathered the branches at his feet and said in a very low voice, "Although it wasn't He Chaoyang who came to see Chen Shuning this time, it should be one of his friends or something."

After all, these days, someone who can casually drive a truck to deliver coal to someone isn't an ordinary person, especially since they delivered half a truckload of coal to Chen Shuning, completely filling Chen Shuning's large woodshed.

Before she went to the countryside, Wang Wenfang's family also burned coal in the winter, so she had heard her parents say how difficult it was to buy coal in the winter.

Her parents were both university teachers. Even though the university issued coal coupons every year, you still needed to pull strings and ask for favors to actually buy coal. Otherwise, even if you had money and coupons, you still couldn't buy it.

Even so, their family could only buy 500 catties of coal each year, which was not enough to burn for the whole winter. So every winter, her father and brother would get up early and work late to go to Hongye Mountain in the suburbs of Beijing to collect tree branches to burn.

So when Wang Wenfang heard Yang Wanqiu say that someone had delivered half a truckload of coal to Chen Shuning, she was truly shocked.

Without realizing it, she raised her voice and shouted, "What? Half a truckload of coal? Sister Wanqiu, you must be mistaken, right? How much does half a truckload of coal cost? Sister Wanqiu, what exactly does Chen Shuning's family do? How come they're so rich?"
