Wang Wenqi acted impulsively and hit his sister in a fit of anger, so it's impossible for him not to feel guilty.
So when Yang Wanqiu said that Wang Wenfang wanted to stay at her place for two days, Wang Wenqi was naturally happy and agreed without hesitation, expressing his gratitude profusely.
And when Yang Wanqiu said that her legs were still a little weak and asked him to help carry Wang Wenfang's luggage to her place, she repeatedly replied, "It's my pleasure, it's my pleasure. It's already a lot of trouble for Wenfang to go to your place, how can I let you help carry her luggage? Wenfang is too inconsiderate."
In fact, Yang Wanqiu's leg injury had already healed to almost full strength, so how heavy could a set of luggage be?
However, she wanted to take advantage of the situation but didn't want to ask for help herself, so she didn't mention the firewood and food rations to Wang Wenqi and Zhong Lingling.
Anyway, given Wang Wenfang's temper and her current attitude towards Wang Wenqi and Zhong Lingling, as long as the siblings meet, Wang Wenfang will naturally ask for those things. Then, if she's polite, she can still be seen as a good person.
As Yang Wanqiu had expected, when Wang Wenqi delivered the luggage, Wang Wenfang, not seeing any food or firewood, looked at Wang Wenqi with dissatisfaction and said, "Brother, didn't I tell Wanqiu to tell you I'd be staying here for two days? Wanqiu's legs aren't good, so she can't gather firewood and asked you to bring a bundle over! Also, you're busy with the wedding these two days and don't have time to take care of me. I'll eat at Wanqiu's place for the next two days. Could you bring my food over with you?"
Yang Wanqiu didn't mention this, and Wang Wenqi obviously hadn't thought of these things either, so he was taken aback by Wang Wenfang's words, but he quickly recovered.
He repeatedly said, "It was my oversight; I'll go back and get it right away."
Seeing Wang Wenqi turn to leave, Yang Wanqiu quickly stopped him and explained, "Really, there's no need for that. I genuinely consider Wenfang a good friend. It's just a temporary stay for two days. There's no need for all that trouble, with firewood and food. It's really not necessary."
Wang Wenfang, who was sitting on the kang (a heated brick bed) with a small quilt and eating melon seeds, hadn't intended to talk to her brother. But the thought of having to stay in Yang Wanqiu's cold room for two days made her feel uncomfortable, so she quickly called out to Yang Wanqiu, who was trying to stop her brother from taking things, "Oh, Wanqiu, don't be so polite with me. I knew you wouldn't ask my brother for these things."
I was originally planning to go back later, but since my brother is here, I don't need to go back, and it saves me from getting in the way of certain people.
"Wang Wenfang, what are you saying..." Wang Wenqi, who was about to reprimand his sister, glanced at the red and swollen face of her sister's injury and could no longer say anything.
Turning to Yang Wanqiu, he smiled and said, "Yang Zhiqing, Wenfang is right. We've already been troubling you to take care of things these past few days. We can't let you do any more work and carry things. Besides, it's not convenient for you to gather firewood with your legs. I'll go back and bring you more. You girls are afraid of the cold, and it's not good for you to get cold."
With that, Wang Wenqi walked past Yang Wanqiu and left.
Seeing Wang Wenqi's actions, Yang Wanqiu felt smug, but on the surface she looked at Wang Wenfang with a face full of resentment and said, "Wenfang, I really consider you a friend. Look how bad this is."
Wang Wenfang, however, didn't seem to care. She patted the dust off her hands from cracking sunflower seeds and said with a smirk, "So what? Buying firewood won't cost much anyway. Wanqiu, you don't know, Zhong Lingling's dad sends her thirty yuan and some coupons every month. With that much money, she won't go hungry even if she doesn't work."
Yang Wanqiu knew that Zhong Lingling's family sent her money every month, but she didn't expect it to be so much. While feeling a pang of sadness, she also had some other thoughts.
She sat on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) and affectionately took Wang Wenfang's hand, saying, "But I always feel that this is not quite right."
"Oh, you're just too kind. Don't worry, it's okay. By the way, Wanqiu, do you know how to make braised pork? My brother and his family bought a lot of meat. I'll ask my brother to bring us a piece later. Let's have braised pork for dinner tonight."
Yang Wanqiu hadn't had meat in a long time, so when she heard about braised pork, she couldn't help but drool. She stopped trying to persuade him and gently replied, "I know how to make it, but the meat your brother and the others bought is probably for tomorrow's banquet, right? Would it be inappropriate for you to ask for that?"
As the two were talking, Wang Wenqi carried a large bundle of firewood into the house. Hearing the noise, Wang Wenfang hurriedly called out to the kitchen, "Brother, is that you, brother?"
Hearing his sister call him, Wang Wenqi hurriedly put down the firewood and went into the house. He replied with a smile, "What's wrong? Are you hungry? Lingling said you didn't eat lunch, so she specially asked me to bring you some steamed cake and biscuits. You can eat with Yang Zhiqing."
As he spoke, he placed a cloth bag he was carrying on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed).
To everyone's surprise, Wang Wenfang, who had apparently been provided by Zhong Lingling, not only showed no gratitude but also curled her lip in disgust. However, since it was something she liked, Wang Wenfang didn't say anything. Instead, she turned to Wang Wenqi and said casually, "Brother, I want to eat braised pork. Could you cut me a piece later? I'll have Wanqiu make braised pork for me tonight."
They did buy a lot of meat this morning, but it was to be saved for the banquet tomorrow morning. They also agreed that all the expenses would be split equally between their families and Dong Weibing's. What would happen if he cut off a piece for his sister without permission?
Although Wang Wenqi doted on his younger sister, he still had some basic principles, so his previously ingratiating face instantly darkened.
He said sternly, "That meat is for a banquet tomorrow, and it's not just for me, so I can't give it to you. If you really want some, I'll buy it for you when you go to town in a few days."
